Chapter 159 - 160: The Calm Before the Storm
Chapter 159: Chapter 160: The Calm Before the Storm
Alyssa paced back and forth in the dimly lit safehouse, the distant sound of rain tapping against the windows. Despite Marcus's reassurance, the failure to capture Volkov weighed heavily on her. She could still see the smug grin on his face as he disappeared into the mist, a reminder that they were always one step behind him.
Eleanor entered the room, her presence like a calming anchor amidst the storm in Alyssa's mind. "Any word from Marcus?"
Alyssa shook her head. "Nothing yet. He's coordinating with intelligence to track Volkov, but you know how slippery he is."
Eleanor leaned against the table, crossing her arms. "We'll get him. We've been through worse, and we've always come out on top." n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Alyssa met Eleanor's gaze, seeing the steady confidence in her eyes. "This feels different, though. Volkov's planning something big. I can feel it."
"Which means we have to be smarter, faster, and more prepared than ever," Eleanor replied. "We don't know when or where he'll strike next, but we can't afford to wait for him to make the first move."
Alyssa nodded, her mind racing through possible scenarios. Volkov had a network of powerful allies, resources spread across the globe, and the element of surprise on his side. But Alyssa had something just as valuable an unrelenting drive to take him down, no matter the cost.
The door to the room swung open, and Marcus stepped in, his face grim. "We've got a lead."
Both Alyssa and Eleanor straightened. "What is it?" Alyssa asked.
Marcus walked over to the table, laying out a map of Europe. "Our contacts in Prague intercepted some communications between Volkov and a major arms dealer. There's a weapons deal going down in the next 48 hours. If we can intercept it, we might finally get the upper hand."
"Prague?" Eleanor said, her brow furrowing. "That's too far east for Volkov's usual operations. What's he doing there?"
Marcus tapped the map. "That's what worries me. Prague isn't just any location there's a facility there, one tied to some of Volkov's old contacts in the black market. If he's planning something big, this could be a key part of it."
Alyssa studied the map. "If we can get there ahead of him, disrupt the deal, and capture his supplier, we might finally have the leverage we need."
Marcus nodded. "Exactly. But we need to move fast. I've already arranged transport. We leave in two hours."
Eleanor glanced at Alyssa, then back at Marcus. "What's the catch?"
Marcus sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "The catch is we're walking into unknown territory. Volkov's unpredictable, and there's no guarantee he'll be at the deal. But if we miss this, we might lose our only chance to catch him before he strikes."
Alyssa took a deep breath. "It's a risk we have to take. We're not going to sit around and wait for him to make his move."
Marcus looked at both of them, a determined glint in his eyes. "Then let's do it. We're hitting Prague hard and fast. No more waiting."
