Murong Si’s words caused even Yu Dong to raise her head, in fact, it happened so fast that she almost cracked her neck.

"What—— Oww," Yu Dong winced as she cupped the back of her neck while Shen Li massaged her neck. The two of them looked at Murong Si who had dropped such a heavy bomb out of nowhere. Murong Si was not the biological son of Old Madam Murong. Then why was he living with the Murong family?

’That greedy old hag doesn’t look like someone who would take an Orphan child in her family and raise him for so long,’ Yu Dong grimaced as she thought, one of her eyes was closed because of the sharp sting in her neck.

Murong Si seemed to have realised what Yu Dong was thinking about and then explained to her, "I am the son of a woman with whom my father had an affair. My mother did not want the villagers to know that she had been cheated on, so she took me in but she does not have any feelings towards me."

"And you are telling me this because?" Yu Dong couldn’t understand the reason. Why was Murong Si willing to disclose such a piece of sensitive information? What made him do something like this? Because even if he was thinking with his toes, he would know that if he told something like this to his in-laws, he would be looked down on by his wife and her family.

Murong Si smiled at Yu Dong. Sure enough, Yu Dong went straight to the point.

"I need you to stop my family from seeing me after I marry Miss Yu Tong," Murong Si put forth his request in front of Yu Dong. "I don’t care if she takes someone else as her official husband or mer concubine. I have no interest in women or maintaining a loving relationship with them. Of course, it doesn’t mean that I will stop her from fulfilling our marital duties.

Yu Dong looked at the mer carefully. She couldn’t detect any lies and knew that Murong Si was speaking the truth. He really did not care about Yu Tong or any other woman. For him, marriage was only a process that he needed to get through and the marital life was a series of duties that he needed to perform.

’What a tricky person,’ Yu Dong thought as she looked at the mer in front of her. At the same time, she wondered what made him like this, the more Yu Dong looked at the mer, the more she realized how desperate he was.

"You want me to stop your family from seeing you?" Yu Dong scrunched up her brows as she realized the crux of the problem. It seemed like it had something to do with the Murong family. "That is going to be hard, what if your family blames me for keeping or hiding you?"

"I know that it will be hard for you, Madam Yu. But I am willing to make it worth your efforts," Murong Si spoke as he took out a pouch from the pockets of his pants. He undid the strings of the gunny bag and then poured the thing inside of the gunny bag onto the table.

No sooner did he tip the contents, Yu Dong’s eyes widened as she looked down at the block of ——

"Gold!" Shen Li exclaimed, his eyes fell on the golden blocks that shone brightly under the light and turned to look at Yu Dong who was stunned as well. When she saw Murong Si pull out a gunny bag, she thought that he was going to show her some sort of fruit but she never expected that he would actually pull out small stones of gold.

"Where did you get it?" Yu Dong questioned Murong Si. The latter only smiled and looked at the gold in front of him. He answered the question that Yu Dong asked after a short pause, "I found it once when I fell in the underground tunnel in the forest that is three miles away from my village."

"As the drought struck our village, the water in our village became more and more scarce and my mother sent me to the forest where the river is a bit thicker and more abundant."

"It was during one of those visits that I fell in the tunnel and ended up almost losing my life," he then softly chuckled and added in a light manner "But it looks like even the heavens did not want me to die, so somehow I managed to get out of that tunnel." He paused and then remarked, No one knows about that tunnel as I hid it with a stone boulder such that no one would see the hole in the ground."

Yu Dong tapped on the table’s surface. She scrunched her brows and questioned Murong Si, "And you are willing to give up this gold mine to me? Wouldn’t it benefit you more if you use it?"

"I am just a mer, Madam Yu. I have no one to support me, even if I use it sooner or later someone would find out about it and then try to ruin me such that they can take control of this mine," Murong Si stated with a sigh. "It’s better if I wash it off my hands and get what I want more than a gold mine."

"And you want separation from your family?"

"That is indeed right. I want to get out of their clutches."
