Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 196 Guri, the Gorilla

"Who is that guy?" Jinping asked, watching the guy, who was around the same height and build as Kai.

Lina squinted her eyes to take a better look at the new player.

Then, she shook her head.

"I don't have an idea. I only know those who played in the Interhigh Nationals last year."

"Hmm," Jinping said. "He looks stupid, though."

Just then, Guri went in front of Kai and pointed a finger at him.

"You think you can beat us?" he exclaimed with a wide smirk.

"My seniors are just going easy on you since they feel bad for beating a team based in low-income cities!" Enjoy more content from empire

Kai frowned as Guri continued to spout nonsense.

"I shall show you how us, in the big cities, play! Don't sulk too much if you lose!"

Just then, Guri felt a blunt force on the back of his head.

Then, he found himself bowing.

"Sorry about that," Fenhua nonchalantly said. "He's a frustrating player of mine."

Yuze, despite feeling offended that they were called players from a low-income city, nodded in agreement.

He also had a frustrating player in his midst.

He glanced at Kai, whose fists were clenched by his side.

Yuze went to where he was and patted his shoulder.

"I swear, if you get agitated here, I'll take you out of the game."

Kai clicked his tongue and went to his position instead.

He had never seen a more frustrating player! It seemed like the guy was overconfident in his skills.

To add fuel to the fire, Guri stood before Kai, their eyes aligned.

They narrowed their eyes at the same time, and although they weren't speaking, it already felt like the war of nerves was starting.

"Oh goodness," Riley said right next to Fenhua. "Do you think bringing him here is a good idea? I know that he's a great player, but his attitude really needs to be worked on."

"It's a practice game," Fenhua said. "Let's see how he plays. He's been a great addition during the previous league."

Riley sighed. "Alright. I still don't think it's a great idea pitting them against each other, though."

"It's fire on fire. They're both very similar," he muttered.

Indeed, Kai found that the player in front of him was almost the same as him.

Kai was known for unexpected plays, and Guri was, too.

The two of them didn't know each other well, but it seemed like they were staring into each other's reflection.

Kai clicked his tongue in frustration as he maneuvered around Guri. However, having similar thoughts, Guri already predicted where Kai would maneuver, causing him to block the shot.

Fortunately, the ball landed in Yuze's hands, and with his amazing skills, he was able to land a point through a lay-up.

17-13

The ball was now in the possession of the Longyu Dragons, specifically Guri.

Kai analyzed his movements and tried placing himself inside his shoes.

'He's going to do a fake,' Kai thought.

As expected, Guri went to the right despite acting like he was going to the left.

With that, Kai went to the right and blocked him, too, causing him to smirk in amusement.

Two can play that game!

Lina pursed her lips.

"Those two are really similar," she muttered.

"Even their heights and builds are the same. I'm thinking that he's Kai long, lost brother," Shang remarked.

"They won't score against each other at this point," Jinping chimed.

Just as Jinping said, the two first-year players found themselves stagnant with their points. That allowed the other players to score for their respective teams.

However, since Zeren and Kun were the only ones who had a pretty high shooting accuracy in the Shizi Dogs, they fell behind from the Longyu Dragons little by little.

"That's another flaw of our team," Lina noted, writing the second point in her notebook.

"We lack shooters," she muttered while Jinping and Shang nodded in agreement.

"Hmm," Kai said, glancing at the scoreboard.

29-22.

This wouldn't do.

He needed to shake off this gorilla.

"What did you just call me?"

Kai turned to Guri with raised eyebrows.

"Huh?" he asked.

Did he say that out loud?

"Gorilla?" Guri asked his nose flaring, making him look like a real gorilla.

Kai shrugged. "More like—Gurilla," he smirked.

With Guri being caught off-guard, Kai took the chance to shoot a lay-up, making their gap smaller.

29-24.

Fenhua clicked his tongue as the score moved once again.

"What the heck," he muttered.

He was confident that they were going to win, and having played in the Interhigh Nationals plenty of times, Fenhua could confidently say that this was a tough game—even tougher than some of the teams they faced during the last season.

"Is Shizi High a team to look out for?" he muttered.

They weren't really on their radar. He only came across their viral video because his mom insisted on watching it. He had to agree that they were quite unorthodox, and they lived up to their name—the underdogs.

However, it hadn't been long since they lost the Winter Cup.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Based on their standing, they shouldn't be as good as they are now.

Or maybe the teams in Jilin were better than the ones in their city?

Fenhua shook his head and focused once more on the game. He knew that they weren't complete since Calvin was absent.

However, he somewhat wanted to show that they could win without Calvin—their star player.

Moreover, they were playing against a team like Shizi Dogs!

It wouldn't make sense for them to lose against a team that hasn't even stepped into the nationals ever in their careers!

With that, he clicked his tongue and channeled his inner powers, wanting to show them what the Longyu Dragons were made of.

He stole the ball from Zeren's grasp, causing the latter to gasp in surprise.

Then, he saw Guri holding up his hand, signaling an opening.

So, without any hesitation, Fenhua passed the ball to the first-year player, knowing that he was nearly as competent as their starting players.

However, that seemed to be a grave mistake as Kai went in front of Guri, going unnoticed, and stole the ball right before their eyes.

Guri's eyes widened as Kai glanced back at him.

"Since when did you get here?" Guri muttered.

Kai smirked and dribbled the ball toward their court before passing it to Zeren from the three-point line.

Zeren makes it, narrowing their gap to a mere two points.

If this was the Kai before, then he wouldn't be able to intercept such a pass.

However, Kai was different now.

He was on another level.
