CH.548 Deck Master Tournament, part 3
CH.548 Deck Master Tournament, part 3
With the first semi-final over, it was time for the second one.
Damian vs. Maiko.
Elemental Heroes vs Fortune Ladies.
Damian’s deck master is the deck master version of Elemental HERO Stratos.
With it you can, once per turn, destroy spells or traps on the field, up to the number of HERO monsters you control. Or add 1 HERO monster from your Deck to your hand.
Also, all summons of a HERO Fusion monster can be summoned without Polymerization, if the materials needed for the summon are on your field. You just send the materials from the field to the GY and summon the Fusion monster. And yes, it is treated as a Fusion summon.
Maiko has Fortune Lady Master.
Deck Master effect:
The "Increase this card's Level by 1" effect of all "Fortune Lady" monsters you control is activated during both player's Standby Phases (the controller of this card picks the timing). You can reduce the level of this card by any amount, but only until it is level 1, increase the level of 1 "Fortune Lady" monster you control by the amount you decreased this card's level.
Monster Effect:
This card's ATK/DEF becomes its Level x 600. Once per turn, during the Standby Phase: Increase this card's Level by 1 (max. 12). The "Increase this card's Level by 1" effect of all "Fortune Lady" monsters you control is activated during both player's Standby Phases (the controller of this card picks the timing).
[This card is for tournament use only. Not a real summoning card. Property of Brian Wood.]
She starts off level 1, but like all the other Fortune Ladies, she gains a level during each standby phase. And not just yours.
She comes with a few effects. One, all Fortune Lady monsters you control gain a level during each players’ standby phase, not just your own. Also, you can reduce the level of Fortune Lady Master, by any amount but only until she is level 1, to increase the level of 1 Fortune Lady monster you control by the amount you decreased her level by.
And when summoned to the field, Fortune Lady Master keeps the level she was at in the deck master position, and gains 600 attack and defense times her level.
But now that you are reminded of that, let’s get to the duels.
Duel 1 began with Maiko going first. As soon as her standby phase accrued, her deck master gained a level.
She started with Terraforming, searching for Future Visions, and activated it.
She then summoned Fortune Lady Light, but because of Future Visions, it was banished until Maiko’s next standby phase. But that triggered Fortune Lady Light’s effect. ‘When this face-up card leaves the field by card effect: You can Special Summon 1 "Fortune Lady" monster from your Deck.’ So Maiko summoned Fortune Lady Earth.
Maiko then activated Fortune's Future, returning her banished Fortune Lady Light to the GY and drew two cards.
She then set two cards and ended her turn.
It was Damian’s turn, and after he drew a card, during his standby phase, the effects of Maiko’s Fortune Ladies activated. First her deck master gained a level, then her Fortune Lady Earth gained a level. And since Fortune Lady Earth gained a level, her effect activated and Damian took 400 damage.
He started his turn by using his deck master Stratos to search for an Elemental HERO Burstinatrix. He then played Reinforcement of the Army to search for an Elemental HERO Sparkman.
Next he played Fake Hero to summon Elemental HERO Avian without triggering Future Visions.
Then he played HERO's Bond, which allowed him to special summon 2 Level 4 or lower Elemental HERO monsters. He summoned Sparkman and Burstinatrix. He then used the ability granted to him by his deck master to fused together Avian and Burstinatrix to summon Elemental HERO Flame Wingman. But he didn’t stop there, as he fused his Flame Wingman and his Sparkman to summon Elemental HERO Shining Flare Wingman.
And because of his effect, Shining Flare Wingman gained another 1200 attack for a total of 3700.
Damien then used his Shining Flare Wingman to attack Fortune Lady Earth (2800 ATK), and Maiko didn’t stop the attack with her face-downs.
So Maiko took 900 damage, but as Damian was going to inflict the effect damage Shining Flare Wingman can cause, I reminded Damian that it is based on the attack in the GY, which Fortune Lady Earth has none, so Maiko took no effect damage.
But Maiko did activate her Inherited Fortune trap. So since her Fortune Lady was destroyed, during her next standby phase, she can special summon up to 2 Fortune Ladies from her hand.
Damian then activated De-Fusion from his hand, splitting apart his Shining Flare Wingman to summon back Flame Wingman and Sparkman.
He attempted to attack directly with Sparkman, but Maiko used her set Call of the Haunted to bring back her Fortune Lady Earth, which was back to level 6 and 2400 attack. But since it was larger than either of Damian’s monsters, he ended his battle phase.
He once again fused together his Sparkman and Flame Wingman to re-summon Shining Flare Wingman in attack mode. He then set the last card in his hand (which was a monster card) into face-down defense position, avoiding Future Vision.
Damian ended his turn.

Maiko’s turn, and she drew a card. And during her standby phase, multiple things happened.
First, Inherited Fortune allowed her to summon 2 Fortune Ladies. She summoned Fortune Lady Dark and Fortune Lady Water.
Then Fortune Lady Water’s effect activated. Since it was special summoned while Maiko controls another Fortune Lady monster, Maiko could draw two cards.
Then all of her Fortune Lady monsters gained a level. That is Earth, Water, Dark and Master. And since Earth gained a level, Damian took 400 damage.
Maiko then normal summoned Fortune Lady Wind, but because of Future Visions, it was banished. And Maiko didn’t activate its on summon effect, since Damian has no spells or traps.
Maiko activated her deck master’s ability, reducing its level by 1 and having Fortune Lady Earth gain that level. So Earth was now level 8, while her deck master is 3. And since Fortune Lady Earth gained a level, Damian took 400 damage.
Maiko then did the same two more times, because no, the deck master doesn’t have a once per turn condition. So Fortune Lady Earth got to level 10 and Damian took 800 more damage.
But more importantly, Fortune Lady Earth now had 4000 attack, which is more than Damian’s Shining Flare Wingman (3700 ATK).
So Maiko moved to her battle phase, attacking Shining Flare Wingman with Fortune Lady Earth. Damian couldn’t do anything and took 300 damage.
And since a monster was destroyed by a Fortune Lady, Fortune Lady Dark’s effect activated, allowing Maiko to summon a Fortune Lady from the GY. She only had one in there, so she special summoned Fortune Lady Light in defense mode.
Maiko then attacked over Damian’s face down monster, which was a Elemental HERO Wildheart, with her Fortune Lady Dark.
And then Maiko attacked directly with Fortune Lady Water, inflicting 1500 damage.
Maiko then set a card and ended her turn.
Duel 1, end of turn 3.

Damian’s turn, and after drawing a card, all of Maiko’s Fortune Ladies gained their levels, and because of Earth, Damian took 400 damage.
Damian then special summoned Elemental HERO Bubbleman from his hand into defense position. So he made an anime pull. What a surprise.
And since he summoned Bubbleman to an empty field, he got to draw 2 cards. By the way, the tournament approved Bubbleman doesn’t need to be summoned when you have no cards in hand for the draw effect. As long as you have no monsters, spells or traps on your field, you get the draw two. Yes, that triggers off of a normal summon as well.
And if Bubbleman is the only card in your hand, you can special summon him. Board state doesn’t matter.
Damian seemed happy with his draws. He discarded a King of the Swamp to add Polymerization to his hand. He then used his deck master’s ability to search for an Elemental HERO Neos.
He activated the Polymerization, fusing together the Neos and Rainbow Dragon in his hand, summoning out the Rainbow Neos.
He then used Rainbow Neos’ ability, sending Bubbleman to the GY to shuffle all of Maiko’s monsters into her deck.
It was a devastating effect, and Maiko couldn’t do anything about it.
Damian then moved to attack, but Maiko activated her set Waboku trap, so she’d take no damage this turn, so Damian ended his turn.
Duel 1, end of turn 4.

Maiko’s turn. After she drew, during her standby phase, the Fortune Lady Wind banished by Future Vision returned to her field. Then Wind and her deck master gained a level.
Maiko then played Sorcerer Support, the generic ‘search a level 4 or lower Spellcaster’ card I printed for the tournament. She used it to get a Fortune Lady Light to her hand. And she immediately summoned it.
Which led to it getting banished by Future Visions, which led to Fortune Lady Light’s effect activating. Which Maiko used to special summon Fortune Lady Fire.
And when Fortune Lady Fire is special summoned by the effect of a Fortune Lady monster, her effect activates. You get to target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; destroy that target, and if you do, inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monster's attack on the field.
And Maiko had the perfect target for the effect. Rainbow Neos. And because of Rainbow Neos’ high attack, that effect ended the duel and Maiko won.
Duel 1, turn 5. End of the duel.

For the second duel, Damian went first. And you know what happens during his standby phase. Yes, Maiko’s deck master gains a level.
He started his turn by summoning Elemental HERO Bubbleman, and since he had an empty field, he got to draw 2 cards.
He then discarded Elemental HERO Captain Gold to add Skyscraper from his deck to his hand.
[Note: For this tournament, Brian printed an anime accurate Skyscraper. So it activates when attacking, or when attacked. Not just when attacking like the TCG Skyscraper. Also, Captain Gold can search either the OG Skyscraper or Skyscraper 2 - Hero City.]
He kept going, discarding King of the Swamp to add Polymerization to his hand and playing Reinforcement of the Army to add Sparkman to his hand. And to add even more things to his hand, he used his deck master to add Avian to his hand.
He then activated Polymerization, fusing together Bubbleman, Sparkman and Avian to summon Elemental HERO Tempest.
[Again, anime Tempest. So if this card would be destroyed (by battle or card effect), you can send one other card on the field (that you control) to the GY, Tempest isn’t destroyed.]
Damian activated Skyscraper, set a card face down, set a monster face down and ended his turn.
Maiko’s turn, and during her standby, Fortune Lady stuff happened.
Maiko normal summoned Fortune Lady Wind, which activated Wind’s effect. Maiko could destroy spells and traps Damian controls, up to the number of Fortune Ladies she controls. She has 1, so Damian’s set card, which was De-Fusion, was destroyed.
She set two spells/traps face down, and ended her turn.
Duel 2, end of turn 2

--- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
Hand: 1 | LP: 8000 | Damian | Deck Master: |
Damian’s turn. Standby phase, Fortune Ladies gained their levels.
He normal summoned Elemental HERO Wildheart before activating his deck master’s ability. Not the search ability, but the other one. He can now destroy Spell/Trap cards equal to the number of Elemental HERO monsters he controls. So Damian targeted both of Maiko’s set Spell/Traps, but in response, Maiko activated her set Waboku so she wouldn’t take battle damage this turn and her monster cannot be destroyed by battle. The other set card she had was Inherited Fortune, so maybe that was her initial plan, with Waboku as a backup plan.
And since Damian couldn’t do anything more, he ended his turn.
Maiko’s turn, and during her standby, Fortune Ladies gained their levels.
She normal summoned Solitaire Magician and activated her effect. By reducing the level of Fortune Lady Wind by 3, she could select a monster on the field and destroy it. Naturally Maiko picked Tempest.
Damian didn’t like the idea. He tributed his Wildheart so his Tempest couldn’t be destroyed.
Maiko then changed her Fortune Lady Wind to defense position, before she entered her battle phase. She used Solitaire Magician to attack Damian’s face down monster, which turned out to be Wroughtweiler. But since the good boy was destroyed by battle, his effect activated, so Damian returned Sparkman and Polymerization to his hand.
Maiko ended her turn.
Duel 2, end of turn 4.

Hand: Hand: 3 (Sparkman and Polymerization confirmed) | LP: 8000 | Damian | Deck Master: |
Damian’s turn, and during the standby, Fortune Ladies gain levels.
Damian then used his deck master to search for a Clayman, before activating the Polymerization he recovered last turn to fuse Clayman and Sparkman to fusion summon Elemental HERO Thunder Giant.
Thunder Giant, my version, has two effects. On summon, he can destroy a monster on the field with less original attack than he has. Which is the same effect he has in the anime.
But he also has his TCG effect where you can, once per turn: discard 1 card to target 1 face-up monster on the field with original ATK less than the ATK of this card; destroy that target.
With his on summon effect, Damian destroyed Maiko’s Fortune Lady Wind. He then discarded a card, HERO's Bond, to destroy the Solitaire Magician.
With no monsters left on Maika’s field, Damian attacked directly with both of his monsters, Tempest (2800), Thunder Giant (2400). Since they were direct attacks, no Skyscraper boost happened, but Maiko still took 5200 damage.
Damian then set the last card in his hand, before ending his turn.
Maiko’s turn and she drew. Her deck master grew to level 7 during her standby phase.
She then used Terraforming to search for Future Vision. After activating it, she summoned Fortune Lady Light, which immediately got banished. Which activated its effect, that Maiko used to special summon Fortune Lady Fire.
Which then activated Fire’s effect, allowing Maiko to target a monster and destroy it. She destroyed Damian’s Thunder Giant and Damian took 2400 damage.
Maiko ended her turn.
Duel 2, end of turn 6.
Hand: 3 | LP: 2800 | Maiko | Deck Master: level: 7 | |

--- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
Hand: Hand: 0 | LP: LP: 5600 | Damian | Deck Master: |
Damian’s turn and he drew a card. Then Fortune Ladies gained levels.
Damian then used his deck master’s ability not to search a card, but to destroy Future Visions. He then activated O - Oversoul to summon Sparkman from the GY.
He moved to battle, attacking Fortune Lady Fire with Sparkman. Fortune Lady Fire was destroyed and Maiko took 1000 damage.
He then attacked directly with Tempest, and since Maiko would lose if the attack came through, she special summoned her deck master to the field.
And thanks to being level 8, and gaining 600 attack times its level, Fortune Lady Master had 4800 attack. Which is more than Tempest, even boosted by Skyscraper, so Damian called off his attack and ended his turn.
Maiko’s turn, and during her standby, Fortune Lady Master gained a level and 600 more attack points.
Sadly, because Future Visions was destroyed, her Fortune Lady Light couldn’t return.
But that didn’t seem to bother Maiko. She went directly to her battle phase, attacking Sparkman with Fortune Lady Master (level 9 /5400 ATK). Damian couldn’t stop the attack, so Sparkman (2600 ATK, boosted by Skyscraper) was destroyed and he took 2800 damage.
But what he could do is activate his set Hero Signal. Since a monster he controlled was destroyed, he could now special Summon a level 4 or lower Elemental HERO from his hand or deck. And Damian summoned Burstinatrix in defense position.
Maiko ended her turn.
Duel 2, end of turn 8.

Damian’s turn, and after he drew, Fortune Lady Master gained a level.
Damian began his turn by using Fusion Recovery, returning Polymerization and Elemental Hero Avian to his hand.
He then used his deck master to search his deck for another copy of Elemental Hero Sparkman and added it to his hand.
He normal summoned his returned Avian, before using his deck master’s ability to fuse it with Burstinatrix to summon Flare Wingman. He used his recovered Polymerization to fuse said Flare Wingman and the Sparkman in his hand to summon Elemental HERO Shining Flare Wingman.
And since Damian had 10 Elemental HEROes in his GY, Shining Flare Wingman gains 3000 more attack, for a total of 5500.
Damian attacked Fortune Lady Master (level 10 / 6000 ATK) with his Shining Flare Wingman, and since Shining Flare Wingman is weaker, it gained an extra 1000 attack thanks to Skyscraper.
Maiko couldn’t do anything about it. She took 500 damage and since her deck master was destroyed, she lost the duel.
Duel 2, turn 9. End of the duel.

So Damian was able to tie the match. We are going to duel 3.
