CH.523 Sacred Dwarf Smith
CH.523 Sacred Dwarf Smith
After Wilma was done resurrecting Claus, we got some information from him.
His memory of the time just before his death was a bit spotty, which leads me to believe people cannot actually remember the moment of their death.
But still, Claus told us that a group of three people suddenly appeared here. Claus armed himself with a weapon and tried to fight them off, but we saw how that ended.
He then cursed as he looked at everything that had been taken. We just tried to tell him that it wasn’t his fault, but that didn’t sit well with him, because technically speaking, it was his fault.
I was tempered to shove a Card Summoner skill orb and some Level Up!s into his hand right there, and tell him he wouldn’t lose next time, but I decided against it. Because if possible, I don’t want the States … I mean whoever is causing these issues, learning that I have that kind of power.
Lucky for me, I got an app for that. One that I learned when I was dealing with the missing magic books. I just summoned Sephylon, the Ultimate Timelord and had him perform the Temporal Recall spell.
With that, we got a look at the people who stole the weapons, but sadly, it didn’t tell us much, because neither Claus nor Lady Majken recognized them. We did see some of their skills and the fact that they didn’t strip off their equipment before entering, but that didn’t really help either. … Well, I suppose they may have removed their equipment, put it into an Item Box and then put it back on after going through the waterfall.
Sadly we also had to resee Claus’ death, which wasn’t exactly the best for his mental health.
Then we looked as the three thieves gathered together, before one of them brought out a marble looking thing and tossed it at the ground. It let off enough smoke to completely cover them, and when the smoke dispersed, they had disappeared.
So the device was identical to what Hugo used when he escaped from the weapons competition, so they both got it from the same place.
We spent time calming down, and I asked some questions about the flame altar, and Claus told me it was an eternal flame given to them by the superior fire spirit. It would burn forever, basically no matter what, and only the spirits could put it out.
It was what the dwarves used to process the highest quality ores, and they used it when forging legendary metals.
It was kind of cool, and I might need to check if we can get one into HomeBase Workshop, just because it would be cool to have. Then again, dragon fire might be better and maybe Janina could help in making an eternal dragon flame.
I then got a quick show of how the sacred forge used the piping I saw to guide the eternal flame to the different forges around the room, and I have to say, it was super cool.
The pipes were made of adamantite, processed to make them indestructible. They had been made a long time ago but a dwarf that held the blessings of both Ninatia and Athena, but because of their indestructible nature, they still looked brand new.
As I was being explained all of this, a System screen popped up, and while I ignored it at first, because I didn’t want to miss anything, when a quiet spot opened up, I read the message.
Because the secrets of the dwarves sacred forge were shared with you, the race Dwarf has been unlocked in One of Every Race. |
Title: Sacred Smith (Smorog) unlocked. |
So I got a new race. Dwarf might not be the best race, because they don’t even have a racial skill, but still nice to have. They do have bonus affinity towards mining and production style skills, so they get those faster than most people.
Also, the Sacred Smith title must be a way to get past the waterfall without a spirit’s blessing. They probably have a way of giving that title to a person, like a ceremony or something. I mean, I have both the Sage (Sage’s tower) and Honorary Baron of Ruiso Kingdom titles, so you clearly can have human given System titles.
Eventually, we headed out of the forge, with Claus still letting off the occasional swear at his own uselessness.
After we were back outside, we put our regular clothes back on and headed for the amphitheater. Wilma and I didn’t have much to do there, but Claus and Majken did their best to reassure the people there.
Instead, I made a conference call with the people who came with me, yes the phones we have can do that. The ones I gave to people can’t, but ours are slightly more advanced.
I informed them of what we learned, and reaffirmed that they hadn’t seen anyone suspicious walking between towns or trying to leave the country. And that was confirmed.
So we had nothing. Which is about what I expected, but I still don’t like it.
I just asked everyone to gather in the Smorog capital, unless they wanted to head straight to HomeBase. And while Alice, Lua and Cailie returned to me, the others headed back home and asked to call if they are needed.
Before the night fell, I ended up releasing a couple dozen surveillance drones from Storage. They, along with the monitoring team for them in the Factory, would keep an eye out for anything suspicious. I’m not expecting anything, but better safe than sorry.
By tomorrow, nothing bad had happened and my drones hadn’t picked up anything suspicious. … well, anything that would link to the attack.
They did find a group of people who seemed to be slave traders, trying to capture people from one of the small villages. Alice said she’d handle it, so I left it to her.
But I guess it is time to check my status, because I did get a new race.

[Change to selected Race] |
And apparently, I had more than the new title. I got a new class race, Blacksmith. And that comes with access to Metal Magic, and the skill already appeared in my status. Probably because I can use Metal Magic with Spirit Magic.
Oh, and since I’ve begun to use both Mana Vision and Miasma Vision at the same time, I’ve been keeping Heterochromic active. One of my eyes is green, like it always has been, while the other is red. Why red? Because I felt like having a red ‘evil’ eye that can see miasma.
I swapped my race over to dwarf, while also changing my class race to Blacksmith. After confirming the change, I felt myself shrink as I became shorter. My body also bulked up, so I was basically trading height for muscle mass.
As I shrunk, I also felt some itching under my chin, because apparently I was growing a beard. Which makes sense, all dwarves, including females, have beards.
In total, I shrunk down from 180 cm5’11’’ to 160 cm5’3’’.
I was still on the taller side for a dwarf, which is interesting, because as far as humans go, I'm pretty average. I guess in this world people are a bit shorter, so maybe I’m slightly above average, but not by much.
“Brian!” Wilma called out when she saw me as a dwarf. “What in the name of the Spirits is going on with your beard!? It is a mess!” She rushed over to me, as she opened her Item Box and got out some tools. “Here, let me style it for you.”
I honestly wanted to interrupt her. My beard would most likely disappear when I change races, and even if I kept it, if I ever used Gender Change as a race that isn’t dwarf, I’d definitely lose my beard.
But at the same time, Wilma insisted, and I don’t mind her styling my beard, so … let’s just go with it.
After Wilma styled my beard, before we had the chance to leave, Claus took me aside to tell me something.
“You better take good care of my Wilhelmina. Or I’ll introduce you to my hammer.” He threatened.
“... Haven’t I been doing that already?” I asked, and I was a bit tempted to remind him that without me, Wilma would be dead.
“... oh right. You look like one, but you aren’t a dwarf.” Claus seemingly realized. He then got very close and whispered into my ear. “Dwarves don’t let people touch their beards. If they do, they show they are willing to court with marriage in mind. You let her, so you better at least give her a chance. I know you have multiple wives already, so surely you have space for one more.”
“... yeah. I … Yes. I promise I’ll give her a chance and I promise I will take good care of her.” I promised Claus.
