Chapter 79: Flee
The Purple Qing Horned Wasps continued to spread everywhere. When they got close to the Decayed Magic Energy near the ground, they seemed to slowly absorb the Magic Energy. From the looks of it, they adapted to survive on that type of Magic Energy even though it was toxic.
Linfel and the others ignored that, though. Decayed Magic Energy couldn't be considered food, so if they delayed, they would be on the wasps' menu.
*Bzzzzzzzzzzzz...*
As they ran, the sound of the wasps approaching could be heard behind. Linfel focused on his and Alvin's Magic Energy completely, and even so, he found it difficult to maintain all those bubbles around everyone's heads and cores. He couldn't even speak normally, so he had to communicate with Alvin through their minds. 'Alvin, Magic Beasts around 80 meters top right. Three of them.'
Alvin nodded and spoke to Claus. "Claus, Magic Beasts' incoming."
Claus looked in the direction Alvin pointed out, and sure enough, three Magic Beasts jumped out of the mist, targetting Julius on the side. Vera and Claus didn't waste time. Claus Familiar changed into his Spear Form, while Vera's Familiar became the same Katar as before.
Milia and Falagita quickly followed the two by the side and incomed the Magic Beasts. The Magis Beasts looked like wolves, although they had five legs and scaled on their heads. It was obviously some race that lived here before but mutated due to the prolonged exposure to the Decayed Magic Energy.
Claus circulated his Brown Magic Energy and accumulated Water Element around his spear. His movements were fluid, blocking the first Magic Beast attack and aiming for its belly.
*Pct!*
His spear pierced the chest of the Magic Beast. However, it couldn't go more than a few centimeters inside. The Magic Beast used its own Magic Energy to strengthen its defenses and avoid being killed. The other two wolves on the side immediately took the chance and attacked Claus while he held the first one.
However, Milia and Falagita attacked the right wolf while Vear attacked the left one. Fire, Wind, and Water Elements collided with the wolves' bodies, forcing them back for a moment.
Unfortunately, just like Claus mentioned, no Magic Beast capable of living in this environment would be weaker than a Level Three Magus or Familiar. Vera, Falagita, and Milia's only advantage was that they were working together with their Familiars and had access to their Magic Energy. Otherwise, they wouldn't have even been able to force those two wolves back.
*Bang!*
Suddenly, a sphere with highly concentrated Wind Element fell right in between Linfel's group and the wolves. It didn't have much of an attack power, but it definitely had the strength to blow away anyone close to it. Warthon was the one to use that attack, trying to build distance between his group and the wolves.
"Warthon, use another one!" Milia shouted on the side.
"But it doesn't have any attack power!" Warthon quickly answered.
"Just do it! Once you throw it at them, start running again."
Warthon gritted his teeth and summoned another one of those spheres of wind element and threw it in the direction of wolves. Right after, he resumed his run with Claus and the others.
Milia saw that and shouted again. "Julius!"
"O-Okay!" Julius understood what she wanted.
Milia and Julius both had Fire Element affinity. They quickly summoned two Fire Balls and shot them. The two Fire Balls encountered Warthon's Wind Sphere, causing a reaction.
*Boom!*
An explosion of fire, which seemed to be fueled by the Decayed Magic Energy, quickly blasted everything around. The three wolf Magic Beasts, who didn't have much intelligence, were caught by the explosion and sent flying.
Nonetheless, Milia, Warthon, Julius, and their Familiars were only Level Two. The wolves were at least Level Three. Their attacks didn't cause many injuries, allowing the wolves to recover their balance a moment later. If anything, the explosion only made them angrier.
However, before the wolves could even resume their pursuit, their expressions changed. The sound of something that even creatures like them could identify could be heard from behind.
*Bzzzzz!*
Out of nowhere, thousands of Purple Wing Horned Wasps pierced through the Decayed Magic Energy mist and surrounded the wolves. The wolves instantly gave up the pursuit and tried to run away.
Unfortunately for them, that was Milia's plan from the start. The explosion wasn't supposed to kill the wolves but use them as bait for the wasps instead.
*Roarr!*
The wolves tried to run and attack the wasps in their bodies. Yet, it was a meaningless struggle. More and more wasps came out of the mist, and the wolves were engulfed in the swarm. They soon disappeared from Linfel's group vision in the Decayed Magic Energy mist, so they couldn't see what turned out of those Magic Beasts.
Around ten seconds later... 'Those three Magic Beasts' Magic Energy disappeared,' Linfel's voice echoed inside Alvin's head.
"Already?!" Alvin was taken aback. They had just left the wolves behind, and they had strength similar to Level Three maguses or Familiars. Yet, they died that fast! Alvin didn't waste time and warned the others of Linfel's message, causing their group to increase their pace even more.
*Bzzzzzzz!*
The sound of the wasps intensified with each step. Claus and the others even wondered if they were running away from them or running at them instead. Besides, the air inside the Water Bubbles Linfel created began to grow thin.
'Alvin, the wasps entered my Magic Energy sense again. They are around 90 meters behind us and approaching fast,' Linfel warned. 'Tell everyone to focus their Magic Energy on their legs and jump, just like Vera did before. They need to jump more than three meters so that their bodies will leave the Decayed Magic Energy for a moment.'
Alvin grew nervous but followed Linfel's orders. The others didn't know what he was planning, but they didn't have many ideas anyway. Together, they circulated the Magic Energy inside their Cores and Dantians without taking in any of the outside Magic Energy. The Magic Energy accumulated on their legs, and they all jumped at once.
The moment their bodies left the Decayed Magic Energy mist, Linfel's Water Bubbles popped. That obviously scared them all since they would fall back into the mist and have to breathe the mist. However, before their bodies touched the mist again, new Water Bubbles formed with Water Element around the Maguses' heads and Familiars' Cores.
They all had the same reddish color as Linfel and Alvin's Red Magic Energy.
When they touched the ground again, they immediately continued to run. They weren't idiots. Linfel told them to jump so that he could renew the Water Bubbles. Now, they had more air to breathe inside the bubbles and could run at full speed again.
'More Magic Beasts!' Linfel didn't lose his focus. 'They are right ahead of us, six of them.'
Alvin passed Linfel's message to everyone, and Claus instantly changed direction. They all run to the right, going sideways from both wasps and magic beasts. The wasps and the magic beasts soon noticed each other. Linfel could see with his Magic Energy Sense that the Magic Beasts didn't continue the pursuit but fled instead.
'Seems like nothing in this place can deal with the wasps...' he thought for a moment.
Nonetheless, Claus's call was right. In the same way that the Magic Beasts noticed the wasps, so did the wasps notice the Magic Beasts. Before they all left Linfel's sense again, Linfel saw that at least half of the wasps on their back went after the Magic Beasts instead.
Around a minute later, their group jumped above the Decayed Magic Energy mist again, allowing Linfel to renew the bubbles and the air inside so they wouldn't have to breathe on the ground. Yet, time was running out. Controlling all those bubbles with such precision and fueling them with Red Magic Energy used way too much of his and Alvin's reserves.
They definitely wouldn't be able to run for more than ten minutes before Linfel and Alvin were completely empty. Linfel could also call Felia to join and offer her Red Magic Energy, but it would only give them a few more minutes again.
Suddenly, Linfel had an idea. 'Right! Nothing in this place has the courage to face the wasps!'
