Chapter 74 - DON'T BE SO CLUELESS!
Lucas' eyes focused ahead, observing every passing vehicle that seemed to be chasing each other with the sound of horns ringing each other.
His memories returned to the past. Memories of the figure of the woman who accompanied him for two years. He still clearly remembers every sweet memory with Selena that used to always make him laugh and smile happily.
Until this moment, he still can't believe that the person he really loves is the one who managed to destroy his feelings. He repeatedly asked himself the reason why Selena was so mean and dared to break his heart? What exactly is his weakness? And what are Steve's strengths, so that Selena prefers that man?
'If you hadn't betrayed our love, maybe we would have lived happily on the ark of the household.' Lucas muttered regretting what had happened.
Long before he found out the truth about his ex-girlfriend's relationship with Steve, he loved Selena deeply. Apart from Selena who is sometimes spoiled and annoying. Until finally, that affection was eroded by the fire of jealousy. Buried and locked tightly in the deepest corner of his heart.
Lucas was swept away enjoying his daydream along with the strains of Westlife's song 'Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You'. A song that represents his current feelings.
It is undeniable that Ellena's unintentional presence could quickly change his life. Even in a short time he was able to forget the pain that pierced his heart so deeply. How beautiful is God's plan. When he lost the woman he loved the most, God replaced him with a better one.
That's what he believed until this moment. His meeting with Ellena is not just a coincidence, but a God's plan that is worth fighting for and defending. If he had realized that from the start, there probably wouldn't have been an agreement between him and Ellena.
Ah, but it doesn't matter. The most important thing now is how to make Ellena feel the same way, so that no man can take her away from him, including Keenan who has always been Ellena's main reason for rejecting him.
Yes, of course. Without Ellena saying it directly, he could already guess that Keenan was the toughest reason for Ellena right now and it was also the toughest obstacle for Lucas to fight for his wife's heart.
Lucas' vehicle slowed down when he arrived at the front of the house. The two meter high gate suddenly opened, as soon as he honked his car horn, giving a signal to the security in the house.
It was already 5:45 pm. Ellena, who was still busy in the kitchen preparing the dinner menu, immediately stopped what she was doing and ran outside, as soon as she heard the sound of a car reverberating in the yard.
Lucas got out of the car and he immediately noticed Ellena standing in front of the house as if deliberately wanting to welcome him home. He immediately swung lazily.
Thinking back on the incident that morning, made him feel annoyed with Ellena. Jealous. Yes, of course he felt very jealous, because he saw Keenan who was so worried about Ellena. Yes, what else is Keenan's purpose in coming to his house, if not because he misses and is very worried about his wife?
"Lucas, are you home yet?" asked Ellena, grinning happily, when Lucas was standing in front of her.
Ellena's demeanor was so different from this morning that Lucas raised his eyebrows in surprise. Shouldn't Ellena be angry because of her treatment of Keenan, but why did Lucas think it was the other way around?
Before Lucas could respond, Martin suddenly appeared behind Ellena. A brilliant idea crossed Lucas' mind. He swiftly pulled Ellena's head, drew closer to him, then landed a kiss on his wife's forehead, making Martin widen in disbelief. However, Lucas just smirked triumphantly.
"Sorry, I came home late. There was a meeting with a client and I had to go back to the office for unfinished work." He said shortly after he kissed Ellena's forehead.
Ellena froze. There was no response from her. It was the same with Martin who was still dumbfounded staring at them.
"I'll take a shower first." Lucas said and walked into the house.
Martin was just flabbergasted when Lucas walked past him. His eyes seemed to follow his brother-in-law's every move until he was away. He stared at Lucas' back for a moment before disappearing from his sight.
Martin then looked at Ellena who still seemed to be frozen on the spot, without action or a word coming out of her mouth.
"What did he do to you, Sis? Why did you just stay quiet when he did that? Or maybe ...." Martin hung his words as if he was guessing what was happening to his sister.
Instead of answering Martin's question, Ellena just walked away from that place. Is he deliberately not paying attention to her younger brothers question or is her mind really not focused on other things?
"Sis, Sister!" called Martin as Ellena passed him with a blank stare straight ahead. Even Ellena didn't respond to his call.
"Didn't she hear what I said?" Martin whispered as he looked at Ellena's back which was getting further and further away from him.
It doesn't end there. Martin is still trying to find answers to the questions that are currently filling his head. He also decided to follow where his sister went, for the sake of an answer.
Ellena had indeed reoccupied herself with cooking activities that she had not finished in the kitchen. So, actually she realized when Martin threw the question at her, but she was confused about what to answer. She didn't understand what Lucas had actually done to her.
'Maybe Lucas just wants to show Martin that he and me hare a real husband and wife, but he's gone too far. He shouldn't have to do that in front of Martin.' Ellena grumbled while chopping the vegetables
"Sis, you didn't answer my question?"
Martin's loud question instantly made Ellena gasp and wake up from her daydream. She then stopped what she was doing and turned her head to the source of the sound. I don't know since when Martin stood beside her.
"What are you doing here? What a shock!" Ellena protested as she gently stroked her chest, as a way to neutralize her shock.
"You didn't answer my question, Sis. How exactly is your relationship?" asked Martin curiously.
Even though he was still a teenager, he could see the sincerity on Lucas' face when he kissed his older sister's forehead. He was sure that the grown man not only wanted to surprise him, but that Lucas had hidden special feelings for his sister that was another thing he caught from the expression on his brother-in-law's face.
Martin studied Ellena's face. He even tilted his head, in order to see his sister's face clearly. Meanwhile, Ellena had resumed her activities, trying to avoid a question she didn't know the answer to.
"Sis ...." Martin called softly. Apparently, he still didn't want to give up until he got an answer from Ellena. For some reason he suddenly turned into a nerd, even though before he didn't interfere much in other people's business.
Maybe it was a form of Martin's attention, because Ellena was the older sister he cared about very much.
"Sister!" called Martin one more time.
"I told you not to meddle in the affairs of adults! You're still too young to deal with the complexities of married life. Just think about your school!" Ellena sarcastically walked over to the dishwasher. She washed the vegetables she had cut earlier, then drained them for a while.
She then continued the activity of slicing chilies and onions for seasoning to stir-fry several types of vegetables that had been cut.
"Why do you still think of me as a child, huh? Look! Your younger brother is already 17 years old!" Again, Martin protested while straightening his body as if he wanted to prove to his brother that he was no longer a child.
"Yeah, but you are still not worthy to think about such a heavy matter!" Ellena argued after a moment she watched her younger brother who had already grown up.
She shifted her focus back, then turned on the stove and waited for the frying pan to heat up. Shortly after, she started her cooking activity by putting the spices she had sliced into the hot oil.
"Does that mean you guys ...." Martin was hanging up again as if he was still trying to guess, but he still hesitated to ask the person in question directly.
"You'd better take a shower, over there!" Ellena asked deliberately to divert the conversation with her hands busy stirring the vegetables in the pan using a spatula. However, it still didn't affect Martin in the slightest.
"I see he's very sincere," Martin whispered, suddenly stopping Ellena's activities and turning to look at her.
"What do you mean?" Ellena rolled her eyes.
Martin sucked in a smile for a moment, finding it funny to see his older sister blushing like that. "I don't think you're playing a joke." He quipped.
Ellena rolled her eyes feeling embarrassed by the topic her sister was talking about. "Don't be so clueless!" She snapped as she stirred the vegetables back into the pan.
"Oh yes!" Martin snapped his fingers with slightly widened eyelids. "So, actually your play is the exact opposite of what you told me. Yes, I found the answer!" He exclaimed then suddenly made Ellena gasp at him.
"What do you mean?" Ellena put her hands on her hips as if she didn't accept Martin's accusation. "Try to say it one more time!" She growled, hitting the base of her younger brother's arm, making Martin groan.
"It hurts, Sis!" shrieked Martin, clutching the base of his arm.
"Just let you be in pain like that! I'll add one more time!" Ellena sarcastically hit Martin's arm again.
"But it's true, it is?I feel sure about what I think now." Martin tried to tease, without caring about his brother's punch.
"Actually, you two—"
"I've found a suitable university for your studies."
Before Martin had finished speaking, Lucas suddenly appeared there and suddenly made them divert their attention.
Keep calm and write something....
