Chapter 126 - THE REASON
"I promise to be responsible for what I did to you," said a man who was none other than Keenan.
Yes, Ellena knew very well that it was Keenan's voice. The man was talking to Filia in the living room, while Ellena was still standing in the same place, listening to their conversation.
'Responsibility? What responsibility does Keenan mean? What has he done to Filia?' Ellena thought, starting to wonder.
She didn't know what Keenan and her best friend were talking about. It was clear that she was confused as to why Keenan was suddenly at Filia's house and it even seemed that they were very close. 'Since when did they have a good relationship? Is it because Keenan used to come to Filia to ask me questions, that they became close like that?' thought Ellena again.
"I'm afraid I'm pregnant, Keenan," answered Filia which suddenly made Ellena flinch and roll her eyes.
"No! This is impossible!" Ellena covered her mouth while shaking her head, as if she couldn't believe what she just heard from Filia's mouth directly.
'Pregnant? How could Filia get pregnant, what have they done?'
Ellena's eyes glazed over. She was not an innocent woman who would not understand the meaning behind Filia's words. She knew exactly what Keenan and Filia were saying, but she still couldn't believe they could do that behind her back. Had they really betrayed her?
It hurts to hear the bitter truth about her lover and best friend. Not selfish. She was only disappointed in Keenan, who previously kept accusing her of treason, even though Keenan himself had a special relationship with her best friend.
"You calm down, I will marry you as soon as possible, if that happens. I also can't allow our child to be born without a father," Keenan explained, still clearly heard by Ellena.
Even Keenan admits it. Ellena was happy to hear that because the man was willing to take responsibility for Filia. However, the sentence was still quite heart-wrenching. After she thought about it, maybe Keenan would also be hurt when she found out the truth about her and Lucas.
Yes, it's only natural that at that time Keenan was very angry. It turned out that she had just felt this pain, seeing that her lover had a relationship with another woman, especially that woman was her best friend.
Disappointed. Of course she was disappointed. However, she couldn't do much other than try to accept what had happened. After all, she had also ended her agreement with Lucas and there was no way he could get back with Keenan. Apart from that, her feelings for Keenan have slowly faded, although it is undeniable that there are still a few feelings that are still engraved in there. Maybe that was also what caused her to feel hurt knowing the truth about Keenan and Filia.
"But what about Ellena, Keenan? I don't want her to hate me because of our mistakes. I've sinned against her."
Filia's cries broke. Ellena could hear the sobs. Yes, of course Filia will feel very sorry for her, for having done something that shouldn't be done outside of marriage, moreover Filia knows that Keenan is her best friend's lover.
Even so, Ellena still felt sorry for Filia. However, everyone must have faults, she can't just judge a pair of people who have hurt her heart just like that.
Perhaps that was indeed the biggest mistake that Keenan and Filia had made against her. It's the same with the biggest sin she did to Keenan. Maybe even bigger than that. Yes, because all this time, she had been slowly hurting Keenan, it seemed that this was her revenge and she would accept it gracefully.
'So this is why you resigned from my husband's company?' Ellena muttered to herself.
She felt sure that that was the reason Filia resigned from her husband's company. Filia must have felt very guilty about that incident. She didn't know how it happened, she could clearly feel what Filia was feeling right now. Fear, worry, and guilt. Surely all those feelings mixed into one.
She wanted so badly to be a place to lean on for Filia right now. However, it can't. In fact she was also sick of hearing it all. How could she possibly be a support for others, when she too was in need of a place to lean on? After all, it seemed that Filia was also deliberately avoiding her. Yes, why did Filia leave the office, if not for wanting to avoid her. Even though she no longer works there, but it is her husband's company that she might come to that place from time to time.
"Never mind, Filia, don't worry too much about it. I'll soon find the right time to talk to her. Don't worry, this matter will be over soon. Whether you're pregnant or not, I'll still be responsible for what I've done to you, " explained Keenan.
The man seemed to be embracing Filia who was sitting beside him. Leaning the woman on his shoulder. Filia's cry became more and more divided and dominated the whole room.
Unbeknownst to them, Ellena had seen all those scenes. Even Ellena also saw Keenan who kissed the top of Filia's head. Ah, it's as if her heart was slashed again. Tears accidentally fell down her cheeks. She could no longer contain the clear liquid that had been filling the corners of her eyes.
"I'm sure Ellena doesn't want me anymore. She's already happy with that man. The proof is she never contacted me." Keenan whispered in the midst of hugging Filia.
Even so, Ellena could still hear Keenan's words clearly and that made her feel even more guilty. Yes, the misunderstanding happened because of her. It all started with her. She had made Keenan disappointed and hurt. Maybe that was also the reason the man took out her disappointment on Filia.
'I'm sorry, Keenan. I am indeed hurt by this fact, but I also realize that all the mistakes you have done to Filia, must have started with me. I'm the real one at fault here. If only I hadn't avoided you, maybe you wouldn't know Filia either and there would never have been an incident that made us both hurt and disappointed. I sincerely accept all of this. I am happy with your relationship. May you be happy forever. I have forgiven your mistakes. Goodbye, Kenan. Goodbye, Filia." Ellena muttered under her breath.
Of course she could only say that in her heart, not directly in front of Keenan and Filia. She wiped the tears that had been streaming down her cheeks, before deciding to leave that place.
Ellena ran to the car and immediately got into the silver colored object. Her appearance certainly managed to distract Lucas, who was busy playing with his smartphone.
"Are you done, Honey? So fast? Has Filia left yet?" Lucas immediately bombarded Ellena with a few questions.
Of course Lucas was confused because his wife came back so quickly, even though he thought she would be seeing Filia for a long time. Considering they rarely saw each other after Ellena married him.
Lucas watched Ellena who just kept her head down. Instantly he frowned when he realized his wife's cheeks were wet.
"Honey, are you crying?" Lucas tilted his head with his gaze focused on his wife's face. "Why are you crying? Who made you cry like this?" He asked curiously after he was sure that Ellena was indeed crying.
'What made her cry like that? Is it because Filia is no longer in the house?' Lucas thought starting to wonder.
"Honey, I'm sorry. To make amends, I'll take you to the village where Filia lives." Lucas said trying to persuade his wife. He thought Ellena was crying because she didn't have the chance to meet Filia.
"No, Lucas. My eyes are just twinkling, so they're watery like this." Ellena answered again wiping her tears while sobbing a little.
Hearing such an answer, Lucas frowned even more in surprise. How could Ellena sob like that, if only a twinkle. Ah, of course Lucas didn't believe it right away with his wife's words and attitude being so contrasting in his eyes.
"You're lying, Elle!" Lucas said in disbelief and he was very sure that Ellena was indeed crying.
"No, Lucas. Why am I crying?" replied Ellena still looking down and not daring to look at Lucas.
"Elle, look me in the eye!" Lucas asked firmly. However, Elena remained unmoved.
"Elle, can you hear me? Look me in the eye!" Lucas said again, which suddenly made Ellena look up and stare at him.
"Look! Are your eyes twinkling together?" Lucas asked for sure when he saw Ellena's eyes were red and watery.
At that question, Ellena's defenses crumbled even more. The tears couldn't be contained anymore.
"Is it because Filia left the house?" Lucas asked curiously and was only answered with a shake of her head by Ellena.
"Then?" Lucas looked questioningly at his wife's face.
Instead of answering, Ellena sobbed even more, which made Lucas look furious. Who had made his wife cry like that?
"I won't let anyone hurt you." Lucas said as he was about to open the car door, intending to get off and enter Filia's house. However, he was forced to give up, when Ellena's hand held him back.
"No, Lucas! Don't do that! I'm fine. At least I know the reason Filia resigned from your office." Ellena explained while holding Lucas' hand.
"But why are you crying like this?" Lucas asked with a pitiful expression.
Again, Ellena just kept her head down. She was still not ready to tell her husband what she had just seen. It seemed like it didn't really matter to Lucas and she chose to keep it to herself.
"Why are you silent?" Lucas is still curious and she thinks all husbands would feel the same if they were in his position.. "Tell me, what was the reason Filia resigned from the office?" He added inquisitively.
