Chapter 35 Reunion
Lukas didn't know if he'd find a hitman that was called Theodore tomorrow when he went to work–it seemed almost impossibly stupid to come. A part of him wondered if Lily would even go to work after the news from last night, but he had a feeling that she would.
And she did.
When Lukas stepped into the building, he'd come across Lily waiting for him. She looked even more red-eyed than usual which stabbed him with guilt.
"Lily I–"
"I'm sorry that I wasn't enough," Lily said.
"What?" Lukas looked at her in surprise.
"If I was enough of a girlfriend, if I didn't turn down your advances and if I wasn't too difficult then this would have never happened right?" Lily smiled sadly. "I'm the one to blame for this incident and not you."
"Woah, woah that's not–"
"Why else would you come into someone else's arms if I was sufficient?" Lily said. "I… I really love you and I know that I can't give you everything that you want and need right now, but if you would–"
"Lily, you're wonderful and already perfect as you are." Lukas said. "The only reason why I… I slept with Chaerin because… the emotional connection that I share with you, I also feel the same way around her too."
"I don't know what you mean–"
"Yeah, but can you imagine your family? I'm sure that you love your father and siblings right? The love is very similar, even exactly the same for each one, right?" Lukas tried to explain. "I love you, and I love Chaerin too."
"Love?" Lily's eyes widened. She hadn't heard those words from him at all and hearing them now made her stomach do flips.
Lukas coughed. He didn't think he'd say those words, but that was what it felt like–and it felt right. He loved them, he truly did.
"Lukas I…"
"I know that I shouldn't be expecting you to be willing to come back with me and be partners again after what happened–you have every right to hate and mistrust me, but if you could give me another chance… from now on, I'll be honest and nothing will happen without you knowing."
Lily pursed her lips and looked at him. Was she willing to do it?
She had been willing to do everything to make it up to him, but this was something entirely unexpected on her part. It meant that she'd have to share him with someone else and that didn't quite fit right with her.
Lily looked up and stared at Lukas' earnest face and her heart eased down from its palpitations–because when it came to him, she just wanted him to be happy as well.
And if it meant sharing…?
Sharing her precious time with Lukas? Sharing the sweet moments and knowing that someone else was doing the same with him at another time? Was she really willing to accept it?
"Ah… I'm not really used to this situation at all, but I want to be with you–so if you could take it easy on me. If um, we could do stuff that isn't uncomfortable with me… I will try to understand your desires and open up bit by bit."
Lukas paused in his tracks at those words–and not a second later, he engulfed the young woman into his arms. A disbelieving grin on his face as he held her close and buried his face into her hair.
He couldn't believe it really!
Chaerin seemed like someone easy to convince because of her nature, but Lily was entirely different. That was why he was so surprised.
"I'll make sure not to hurt you ever again, Lily. Please trust me when I say that I love you." Lukas hugged her tightly in his arms.
"I… I love you too, Lukas." Lily buried her face into the crook of his neck and sighed softly. She had missed this.
Even though they were separated by only a couple of hours, it had felt like the longest amount of time to Lily as if the world stretched itself over to torment her–but now everything was better.
Well… not exactly better.
As Lily squeezed her arms around his neck, she whispered slightly.
"Do I have to like her too? Tolerate Chaerin?"
"Ahhh…" Lukas wished that he got more chances to talk with Stacy about this, but for once, he felt like he had the answer at hand. He shook his head. "I wish you did, but there's no need to rush. Things can still work out."
"I see. Thank you, Lukas." Lily was ultimately relieved to hear it.
If it had been required for them to act like sisters, Lily really didn't know if she'd be able to stop herself from wringing her arms around Chaerin when they ended up meeting each other again.
This was all her fault after all.
