Chapter 19 Emerys Di Verdant Returns
It was a little hard to concentrate with all the flashing and raving lights, paired with the comfortable lounge couches and his wonderful companion practically draping herself on him–but Lukas was doing his best to read and understand more about the Vampire diet.
"Are you ready to order?"
Lukas looked up from the menu and stared at the serious face of Chelsea. Her pink hair was put up in a short ponytail which gave her pink eyes a chance to stare him down as if he was nothing more but a bug.
"Uh… a minute please." he chuckled.
In the end, the younger sister forced the two of them to accompany her to the bar and have their meal there instead. Probably to prevent anything happening in their house–which was a shame for Lukas.
Chaerin also looked disappointed earlier, but now, she also seemed a bit happier as she inched closer to Lukas, her chest practically pressing against his side as she pointed at the menu.
"Bloody Mary is really good, and if you want some crystallized blood chips? They're super yummy to have."
"Huh, then let's go with that." Lukas smiled at Chaerin's enthusiasm. She really was perky about this, wasn't she?
"Will that be all then?" Chelsea intoned as she jotted down on her notepad. "Two Bloody Marys and a huge serving of blood chips? I will be back with your order."
"Ah, there we go." Lukas sighed in relief and leaned his back against the couch. "Your sister's real scary, huh?"
"Hah, she's a nuisance." Chaerin leaned closer to him and sighed softly. "But she's the only family I've got."
A part of Lukas paused at those words and he cleared his throat. He glanced down at the young woman who still had her hoodie on and couldn't help but feel a sensation in his chest.
The way that Lukas had been coping with the situation was acting as if everything was fine and that it was all a game–it meant that he could do whatever the heck he wanted and he'd get all the girls he desired.
However, he was suddenly reminded that these people weren't just caricatures or characters made up for him to fantasize about… they were now living and breathing individuals too.
Lukas ran his fingers through his head. "Ah, this is hard."
"What's hard?" Chaerin looked up at him and fluttered her eyelashes. She smacked her lips together, her tongue grazing her bottom lip. "Is it something that I can help you with?"
Lukas gulped for a moment and he felt a twitch in his pants–which he was practically thankful about before when he worried about being undead–and yet before his little brother seized the blood flow of his entire body, somebody came to interrupt.
A sharply dressed and yet familiar woman plopped down on the chair in front of him and smiled. "Ah, Lukas–what a coincidence to see you here."
Emerys di Verdant flipped her green hair behind her back and gave him a flirtatious smile. She had spent the last week trailing him and trying to understand what made the man tick and she thought that she now understood what he wanted.
"Um… Emerald isn't it?" Lukas said, noticing how Chaerin froze at the appearance of the other woman. He didn't know if this was a good thing or bad thing–he didn't want to imagine that Chaerin was a yandere, but now he wasn't so sure.
"Close. It's Emerys… can I perhaps join the two of you this evening? My date–"
"No." Chaerin snapped.
"Hey, let's be a bit nice." Lukas said. "I've met her sometime ago and she's not too bad."
It was way too early for Chaerin to be possessive about him, and yet that seemed to be the case.
"Fine. She can stay," Chaerin glumly said.
Lukas looked at Emerys up and down, taking note of her sleek dark green dress that accentuated and showed off her skin.
It reminded him of a Nymph or a Dryad, the ones that he saw in the documentaries he used to watch.
"So what can we do for you?" Lukas decided to ask.
Emerys blinked. "H-huh?"
"I mean, you wouldn't just approach me out of nowhere for no reason, right?" Lukas grinned. "After all, I was the one who walked out of the testing center even when you tried to stop me–are you here for revenge or something? Want to humiliate me? I might like it."
Emerys nearly choked at Lukas' words. She thought that she arrived rather quite smoothly compared to Chaerin's flimsy way of approaching him–but the man read her like an open book.
The green haired Vampire looked away for a moment, resting her face on her slender hands as she sighed softly. If it weren't for her grandfather's request, she would have never approached this arrogant man.
Did he think that he could act so casually just because he was damn attractive?
This was what Emerys hated the most about city boys.
"Fine. You've understood my intentions correctly." Emerys di Verdant smirked as her gaze flickered back to Lukas. "The truth is that we would like to extend another formal invitation to you and Miss Atticus on joining the Hunters Association."
"Huh." Lukas blinked. He expected something along those lines, but even Chaerin too? He turned to look at the young woman beside him but paused when he saw her expression.
There was a haunted look over Chaerin's face, her face turning even paler than before.
Lukas frowned and draped an arm around the girl, pulling her closer towards him and shaking his head. He gazed back at Emerys di Verdant and offered her a thin smile.
"Sorry, I think I may have to change my mind and kick you out of this table. You can think of me as an ungentlemanly man and hate my guts, but you can probably read the room, right?"
"I–that's!" Emerys looked at him frustratedly, glanced at Chaerin before she eventually sighed then got up and left the two of them behind.
"You okay?" Lukas asked Chaerin.
Chaerin quickly buried her face into his chest and stunned him, but he quickly rubbed her back and closed his eyes.
There were truly several things amiss–it was something that might interrupt his peaceful Vampire life.
