Chapter 6
C6 – A Mysterious Master
He was Tong Shan, the billionaire CEO of the Tong Group. Moreover, he happened to be the father of Tong Waner!
“Waner is doing alright, but the one ensuring her safety isn’t me. It’s someone you’d least anticipate!”
That gravelly voice reemerged, reverberating in the office with a trace of mockery.
“Oh? Not you? Then who might that be? Who could handle an assassin from the Rebirth Camp?”
As Tong Shan heard this, his eyebrows lifted, his expression serious.
Gui Ying was his ace in the hole, once a renowned figure on the Huaxia assassin roster.
He wouldn’t have employed this secret weapon if he hadn’t discovered that the Chen Group had hired a Rebirth Camp assassin to target his daughter.
Yet now, Gui Ying was informing him that he hadn’t intervened and that another expert was safeguarding his daughter.
“It’s that bargain-bin son-in-law of yours, Wang Xiao!”
Gui Ying, hidden in the shadows, didn’t keep them waiting and rasped the words out.
“What? Wang Xiao? How is that possible?”
Upon hearing this, Tong Shan was initially dumbfounded. Then, an expression of disbelief swept over his face. He had observed Wang Xiao’s growth closely. How could he be unaware of Wang Xiao’s actual capabilities?
“It’s absolutely true. I couldn’t believe it either. When the assassin from the Rebirth Camp launched a surprise attack, even I couldn’t intercept Waner’s strike in time. He was the one who intercepted it.”
In the darkness, Gui Ying’s voice contained thirty percent fear and seventy percent astonishment. His relationship with Tong Shan was that of both servant and friend. In his heart, Tong Waner was like his own child.
Upon hearing Gui Ying’s account, Tong Shan was also taken aback. A glint flickered in his eyes. After a pause, he mused, “It appears that Wang Xiao vanished for half a year. He mentioned wanting to go into the mountains for training. Perhaps he encountered some stroke of luck?”
Tong Shan solely assumed that Wang Xiao had experienced some stroke of fortune during his six-month absence. He remained unaware that this “Wang Xiao” was no longer the same person.
“That’s a viable option as well. Since Wang Xiao can provide protection for Waner, your covert safeguarding is no longer necessary. Our focus should now shift to handling the Chen Group!”
As Tong Shan concluded his words, a chilly and stern expression spread across his composed countenance, his tone turning icy.
“Should I launch an attack? Eliminate Chen Peng?”
In the office, Gui Ying’s raspy voice echoed once more, akin to a sound emerging from the depths of darkness.
“No need, letting him die in such a straightforward manner would be too lenient. I want him to witness the Chen Group being devoured by me!”
At this moment, Tong Shan’s eyes gleamed with determination. An air of supremacy, a commanding presence, radiated from his very being.
In the shadows, Gui Ying remained silent, an implicit assurance that he would back whatever decision Tong Shan chose!
……
The following day, Wang Xiao awoke from his slumber and made his way to the ground-floor dining room in the villa.
“Good morning, Uncle Wang Xiao. Are you up? Breakfast is served!”
Tong Hu and the other bodyguards had emerged from their unconsciousness. All of them regarded Wang Xiao with respect and reverence.
They had learned about the previous night’s events from the young lady. They had been rendered unconscious by the two assailants, and it was Uncle Wang Xiao who single-handedly dealt with and eliminated them.
Witnessing one of the assassins succumbing to sheer terror, they were awestruck.
Until then, they had believed Uncle Wang Xiao to be a rather idle individual, merely marrying into the Tong Family. It never crossed their minds that he possessed such profound and enigmatic skills.
“Despite his exceptional skills, he endured being bullied by Eldest Miss without retaliation. He was content being an inconspicuous backdrop to Eldest Miss. Could this possibly be love?”
For some reason, Wang Xiao noticed an overnight shift in the expressions of the Tong Family bodyguards when they looked at him. Had he known their thoughts, he might have helplessly commented, “Love my ass. I just don’t want that clueless girl to kick the bucket. I’m just not up for dealing with food and lodging.”
“Big Brother Wang Xiao, you’re up.”
Wang Xiao descended the stairs and saw Tong Waner approaching with delight. She took hold of his arm and spoke in a familiar manner.
A jasmine-like fragrance enveloped Wang Xiao’s senses, creating a sense of ease and tranquility.
“Ahem, Waner, it’s early morning. If you hug me like this, you’re setting the stage for a very noticeable reaction.”
Wang Xiao cleared his throat gently, assuming a solemn demeanor as he addressed Tong Waner. Inside, he was already reacting in an audaciously shameless manner.
Upon hearing Wang Xiao’s words, Tong Waner’s face flushed. Her beautiful eyes inadvertently shifted towards Wang Xiao, making her even more bashful.
Big Brother Wang Xiao was being a bit of a rogue!
It was so mortifying. How could he utter such things out in the open!
Tong Waner’s heart raced, her cheeks tinged with crimson. She had never witnessed this mischievous smile on Wang Xiao’s face, nor had she ever heard him speak in such a brazen manner.
Yet, for reasons unknown, this mischievous version of Big Brother Wang Xiao before her was endearing. He appeared even more captivating than the formerly silly Big Brother Wang Xiao.
“Wang Xiao, you naughty big brother. If you keep this up, I’m going to ignore you!”
Tong Waner’s cheeks turned rosy as she playfully pouted at Wang Xiao.
Despite finding Big Brother Wang Xiao endearing deep down, she maintained a sense of reservation on the surface.
Wang Xiao chuckled and touched his nose, deciding not to tease Tong Waner any further.
They both settled down for breakfast. During that time, Wang Xiao continued to playfully banter with Tong Waner, evoking laughter from her. The atmosphere was full of liveliness.
Ding…
Just then, a phone in the villa began to ring. Tong Waner stood up and went to answer the call. After finishing her conversation, she returned to the table and sat down with her head lowered. She seemed hesitant and avoided making eye contact with Wang Xiao.
“Waner, is everything alright?”
Wang Xiao appeared to have noticed Tong Waner’s unusual demeanor and inquired.
“Big Brother Wang Xiao, Chen Jie mentioned that today is our final high school reunion before college. He asked if I could join.”
Tong Waner kept her head lowered, speaking timidly to Wang Xiao, seemingly afraid of his reaction.
“Chen Jie? A high school reunion?”
Wang Xiao found himself taken aback upon hearing this. It didn’t seem like a big deal, so why was Tong Waner so apprehensive?
“Big Brother Wang Xiao, if you don’t want me to go, then I won’t. Please don’t get mad!”
Observing Wang Xiao’s eyes widen slightly, Tong Waner assumed he was about to get angry and hurriedly spoke.
“Why wouldn’t I want you to go? If you want to, then by all means, go.”
Wang Xiao was a bit puzzled and asked Tong Waner, seeking clarification.
“Ah? Big Brother Wang Xiao, you mean you’ll allow me to go?” Tong Waner’s lovely face displayed a hint of shock. She gazed at Wang Xiao with her beautiful eyes and inquired, “You used to dislike me attending classmate gatherings, and you even confronted Chen Jie when he pursued me. Don’t you really dislike him?”
“Who is Chen Jie? Why would I…?”
Wang Xiao responded almost automatically, only realizing partway that he seemed to be Tong Waner’s fiancé.
Based on what Tong Waner had mentioned, his former fiancé didn’t seem pleased with her attending a classmate gathering. Additionally, he seemed to have some connection with that guy named Chen Jie.
His brother was quite the character!
“Ahem, even though I dislike Chen Jie, I suppose I should attend a high school classmate gathering. How about I accompany you?”
Wang Xiao cleared his throat gently and proposed to Tong Waner with a smile.
As Wang Xiao’s words reached her ears, Tong Waner’s expression took on an even more peculiar hue. She asked, baffled, “Big Brother Wang Xiao, you used to detest these sorts of gatherings. Why the change this time?”
“Isn’t this our final class reunion?”
Wang Xiao scratched his nose, a slightly awkward smile forming. While he might not know who Chen Jie was, he was aware that he had shared a classroom with Tong Waner during high school.
He also wished to uncover the kind of person Chen Jie, the figure his ex-fiancée loathed, truly was.
Additionally, Tong Waner’s words implied that Chen Jie held some interest in her. Regardless of the circumstances, he remained her fiancé. For him to invite his wife out in front of him, Wang Xiao simply couldn’t tolerate it!
Even though it was summer break in front of Forest City’s high school gate, a crowd had congregated. All of them were young adults around 18 or 19 years old.
Following their graduation, these girls started dabbling in makeup. All donned genuine silk short-sleeved tops, their snowy shoulders, and slender legs casting a spell on the boys who found themselves swallowing hard.
None of them could have foreseen that a few months ago, an unassuming female classmate in a school uniform, once she changed into new clothes and put on makeup, would transform into such a stunning beauty.
Like bees drawn to nectar, they surrounded these young ladies whose beauty rivaled that of flowers.
“Don’t worry, Young Master Chen. I’ll ensure your confession is a success today, and you’ll win over Tong Waner!”
At a corner near the school gate, a cluster of followers enclosed a tall, dashing young man, speaking with deep respect.
The dapper young man sported stylish attire and a lock of hair carefully styled. His wristwatch was worth a small fortune. The air of a well-off second-generation heir enveloped him. This individual was the class monitor of 12th Grade, Class 1, a dedicated admirer of Tong Waner – Chen Jie!
