Chapter 365: Chapter 226 Feeble Willpower (Part 1)_1
In the steel fortress, a battle had just ended.
The fight lasted an entire day. During that time, countless mechanical automatons were destroyed, numerous spaceships fell from the sky, and a dozen iron guards were seriously injured, but fortunately, their chips were not damaged.
The conflict broke out between the moderate and radical factions, which had long-standing differences. There had been a recent easing of tensions, and they had decided to jointly destroy the Shadow World, taking only a million chosen ones to leave and then starting to pursue the footsteps of the Far Traveler.
However, the representatives sent by both sides to the Shadow World lost contact with each other, each suspecting the other of foul play at the very end, which eventually led to the outbreak of war.
The Radical Faction struck first, launching a surprise attack on the steel factory and successfully seizing control of it.
In response, the Moderates destroyed the factory’s central control system and left with the automatons that had been produced earlier.
After leaving the battlefield to those mindless automatons, Tai Yin, the commander of the Radical Faction’s factory area, declared it was time to rest and then returned to his own repair chamber to remove his external Mecha.
Although iron guards are genderless, Tai Yin’s appearance was that of a distinctly female Mecha, looking to be about twenty-five, with chest armor that made her seem buxom and aggressive.
Most of her body was painted red, a color as fiery as her aggressive nature. On the battlefield, she was like a wild lioness, fiercely gnawing at her opponents until their throats were torn out.
Repair arms began to mend her body; the scars from the battlefield wounds started healing under the automatic arms’ ministrations.
Closing her eyes, she began to contemplate the current state of the war.
From the current situation, it seemed that although the Radical Faction had taken the warehouse, this might well be part of the Moderates’ plan, sacrificing the factory temporarily to trap the Radicals.
Even though this would result in some loss of factory production capacity, it could force the Radicals to deplete a significant amount of their resources on repairing the factory before the Moderates would strike to reclaim it.
Taking over the factory had been Tai Yin’s suggestion, but from the looks of it now, the decision was not the right one.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Yet she had her own ulterior motives. For those, she had led her faithful Artifact Spirit subordinates and her own Combat Group to seize the factory and begin resisting the frenzied attacks of the Moderate forces.
Nearly every Artifact Spirit had its own Combat Group built to reflect the character traits of the Combat Group Leader. Due to special chips inside the leaders, the automatons were gradually assimilated by the Combat Group Leader, slowly adopting characteristics more and more like those of the leader.
A ten-battle veteran would acquire a small degree of autonomous consciousness, and such automatons would be elevated to squad leaders before continuing the fight.
Since the split between the Moderates and Radicals, most of the time had been wartime, with barely any peaceful periods.
While undergoing automatic repairs, Tai Yin asked, “How’s the factory repair going?”
“Most of the monitoring systems are still inoperative, the macro-regulation system password is lost, and the factory production plan has been disrupted.”
Tai Yin nodded slightly and, after a moment of silence, asked, “Any news from the slide rail area?”
“No.”
“Any news from Fei?”
“No.”
“Any messages?”
“No.”
After several negatives, Tai Yin continued in silence.
The non-stop battles hadn’t tired her, but Fei’s disappearance was worrying her.
Then, the Intelligent Management System asked, “Tai Yin, if it’s convenient, could you share why you are looking for Fei’s whereabouts? I can prioritize this task and notify you as soon as there is any news.”
“The other party was the former manager of the factory; finding it would be of great help in repairing the factory.”
“Thank you for the reason you just made up; I’ll keep an eye out for you,” the system replied.
Listening to the system’s response, Tai Yin felt that the doubts of other Artifact Spirits were indeed warranted.
The factory’s management system was massive and redundant, firmly intertwined with the factory, securing its untouchable status.
It possessed a portion of self-awareness, but this self-awareness was more akin to pre-programmed responses.
Many Artifact Spirits suspected that the factory’s management system was actually another Artifact Spirit that had awakened, but unfortunately, there was no evidence. The behavior it displayed was also exactly what was expected, adding to the guards’ confusion.
Knowing she would get no further answers, Tai Yin continued to rest, letting the repair tools fix her body while she entered a dormant state.
After an indeterminate amount of time, a slight tremor woke her up.
Her first instinct was to reach for her weapon, but then she heard the Intelligent Management System speak up, “Your Excellency Tai Yin, I have some new findings that I think you might want to see.”
“What findings?”
“There are some items appearing in the Electronic Bears section that were not produced by the factory.”
Summoning the monitor with a sense of puzzlement, Tai Yin saw the screen filled with tens of thousands of testing rooms, each crammed with various colored Electronic Little Bears.
These Electronic Bears had almost no combat capacity, and their fluffy appearance’s purpose was unclear. Despite this, the factory continued to produce them relentlessly, constantly conducting tests and selections.
The process was unstoppable and aimless, leaving her no choice but to let it continue.
What do you think?
