Chapter 128: Chapter 128: Planning for the Future
After re-entering the room at ten minutes to 8 am, Kain stood around and waited. He still couldn't figure out how exactly anything in this run-down room would enable him to teleport.
However, after the hearing the chime of the large clock tower at the center of the city to signal that it was 8 o'clock and the start of the work day, the safe suddenly began to vibrate violently. The inconspicuous sigils carved into the exterior of the safe that Kain had not previously noticed began to glow.
The once-sturdy safe door creaked and slowly retracted into the body of the safe, which split apart with a soft hiss.
The safe's base lifted and rotated, revealing more hidden complex sigils.
Panels around the safe's front folded outward in to form a ring, revealing a luminous core of pulsating energy at its center that began to float within the room.
Suddenly the core collapsed in a short burst of light and the energy released was absorbed by the full-formed ring.
The components of the ring continued to shift and reconfigure, seamlessly integrating into the structure of a newly-formed teleportation gate with a swirling vortex of energy at its center.
Once the transformation was completed, the temporary teleportation gate emitted a strained hum and cracks began to form around its edges. Kain could tell that this gate would not last long.
Therefore, despite a great degree of fear and hesitation. Kain stepped through the gate with the sensation that he was boarding an airplane that looked like it would fall apart the moment it hit the air.
'If there is a god, please don't let me die. And please let all of my body parts travel with me…'
The journey back to the college was no better. In fact, Kain wasn't sure if it was due to the shoddy gate, it was actually much worse.
A sudden dizziness overwhelmed all of Kain's senses and he couldn't tell which way was up or down.
Then there was the pain, which he didn't have to experience the first time. It was a painful pressure that seemed to originate from within him and seemed to want to tear apart his very being.
If Kain's senses weren't so overwhelmed, he'd be absolutely shaking in fear.
Then, as abruptly as it started, the sensation halted just as he felt he couldn't hold on any longer.
The moment his feet touched the ground his stomach churned and he couldn't help but throw up all over the ground.
As he tried to open his eyes and focus his blurry vision Kain was pleased to discover that he hadn't been transported back to the school's teleportation gate. Instead, he was outside in a concealed alleyway between two buildings. He would not have to worry about cleaning up the vomit from the scene to conceal his presence on a Black Mission.
Unfortunately though, once Kain recognized his surroundings, he realized that he was on the opposite side of campus from his dorms and would have to make his way back while feeling drunk out of his mind.
Every shaky step made his body lurch to the side and caused a splitting pain to shoot through his mind. The whole journey back was absolutely torturous.
Thankfully, when he reached the top 5 mansion there was nobody around to witness his plight and he was able to discretely return home.
Without even being bothered to change his clothes or shower, Kain collapsed into his bed while cursing whatever staff member had stitched together that shoddy excuse of a teleportation gate.
----------
Kain didn't leave his room for three days and just ate the food remaining in his star space. In fact, he barely left his bed except to occasionally shower.
He was still suffering from extreme vertigo due to the last teleportation so whenever he moved too much he felt like throwing up—which he couldn't help but do a couple of times.
However, although he didn't feel 100% ready after the third day, with 48 of his peers breathing down his neck to defeat him during the re-ranking, he couldn't stomach laying down for another day—although he couldn't stomach much period.
He had some crucial plans to increase the strength of his contracts that he needed to implement.
Since the university provided beast-tamers with the basic food for their contracts up to a certain value, Kain had asked them to procure the brains of spiritual creatures kept as fresh as possible.
Although the freshness of the brains often left much to be desired, thankfully the brain for most spiritual creatures is a pretty useless material. So Bea was able to regularly eat the brains of yellow, and even green-grade, spiritual creatures.
It was no longer required of Kain to feed her himself. Nor does he have to put up with the impaired mental strength the feedings caused.
Therefore, Kain didn't need to worry about Bea's source of food.
However, once Eve and Queen break through to orange-grade Kain wanted to provide them with the nectar of spiritual plants of a higher level.
Not only due to the benefits for their own growth, but also due to the economic benefits of spiritual honey made from plants of a higher level.
However, spiritual plants orange-grade and above exceeded the subsidized amount for food allocated to each student.
And although the college had its own fields of plants he wished to have access to, the teachers wouldn't easily allow a first-year student access to them in case he damages the plants. After all, most of them were grown to provide materials for important industries affiliated with the college, such as Evolutionary Planners, and Pharmacists.
If Kain can't properly control his contract the harm to several departments within the college would be devastating.
So despite his numerous applications for entry, pestering of staff, and even attempted breaking and entering, Kain was never able to enter.
Therefore, Kain had long had the intention of growing his own spiritual plants. However, he couldn't do so in his current living area. If another student, such Soren Lysander, messes with or even takes from the garden, then it'd be too late to cry in regret then.
Additionally, due to the auction Kain had witnessed during the Black Mission, he decided to scale up his initial plans. He was going to start a business.
