Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Translated by Momo & edited by Mary
(What should I do… I can’t sleep…)
Laying on the bunk bed in the dark, Cecilia tossed and turned with her eyes tightly closed.
The matter with the footprints they recently discovered was stuck in her head and wouldn’t go away. When she remembered the piercing gaze from the shadow outside the window, she quivered.
(I need to sleep properly…)
Cecilia tightly shut her eyes again. However, she was not drowsy at all.
“Are you okay?”
Suddenly a voice came from below and Cecilia’s body jumped on the mattress.
Oscar, who she thought had just fallen asleep, called out to her.
“Can’t sleep?”
“Yeah…it’s a bit…”
It was not really ‘a bit’, but more like ‘not at all’.
“You’re surprisingly a wussy.”
“Wussy, you said…?”
“You’re always babbling those ridiculous lines, so I thought you had more guts.”
Oscar was referring to how Cecil usually talked to their female classmates.
Cecilia lifted the comforter to her nose.
“That’s because I’m pretty desperate to look more manly…”
“Is that manly?”
“Isn’t that super manly?”
“…”
Oscar became completely silent, reacting exactly like Gil did before.
Apparently, there was a big gap between Cecilia’s idea of 'manly’ and their concept of manliness.
“In other words, do you talk like that with the girls reluctantly?”
“I’m not unwilling to do it. I like girls! But, well, it gets tiring sometimes…”
“I see… so you were always struggling because of your feminine features…”
The fear and anxiety she felt before already faded. It was probably because she got distracted while talking.
Cecilia didn’t even notice the change in the atmosphere and continued to follow the flow of the conversation.
While doing so, Oscar’s voice relaxed a little.
“Oscar, are you already sleepy?”
“Hmmm.”
She could tell by the sounds coming from below that he was rubbing his eyes.
Cecilia wanted him to stay awake a bit longer with her, but that wasn’t something she could ask for.
“I’m sorry for bothering you. Shall we sleep?”
“…I’m still fine.”
“How can you even say that with such a sleepy voice?”
Cecilia laughed, and added, “Good night.” Oscar replied “Good night”.
The room was quiet again. Then once more, that fear crept up from below.
Who was the 'Killer’?
Why hasn’t the Azalea’s candidate been killed?
Who was looking through the window?
Am I possibly being targeted?
In the silence, all those questions surged in her mind.
Until now, she thought everything would eventually be all right.
Rather, nobody was killed, and neither she nor Leanne was attacked so far.
But after that happened, she realized how naive her thoughts have been. It’s no wonder Gil got angry at her.
A shiver ran down her spine and she felt like she was wide awake. Tonight was about to become an undesired all-nighter.
“Cecil.”
A voice came from below again. Cecilia opened her eyes.
“Oscar, are you still awake?”
“If you’re that scared, do you want to sleep together?”
“Eh?”
She was surprised by the proposal Oscar suddenly made without any hesitation. It was shocking.
Of course, that possibility had never crossed her mind.
“It’s okay, you don’t have to force yourself if you don’t like it…”
“Umm…”
Cecilia thought for a while.
The bunk bed could be considered wide enough for two people. In fact, Cecilia could stretch both of her arms and barely touch her fingertips on both ends. It wasn’t meant for two people to sleep on it, but at the same time, it wouldn’t be too cramped either.
One problem is that she would have to sleep with a wig all night, but it was still better than not sleeping at all, so in regards to that, she didn’t think twice.
Another problem would be a man and a woman sharing a bed before marriage, but now Cecilia is Cecil. A man.
If we’re both men, it shouldn’t be an issue. Maybe…
(If I’m close to someone, I might be able to sleep …)
Cecilia mustered up her courage.
“Well, shall we sleep together?”
“Sure.”
“Is it really okay?”
“Go ahead.”
Cecilia attached the wig and climbed down the ladder holding her comforter and pillow. When she opened the curtain and looked into the lower bunk bed, Oscar was already waiting in the far back.
It looked like “You really came.” was written all over his face. Still, he was kind and didn’t have any hostile or judgemental attitude at all.
“Well…then, I’ll be in your care.”
Cecilia climbed into the bed.
The bed and the sheets were faintly warm, probably because Oscar was previously laying there. When she covered herself with the comforter she brought, it became tepid and pleasant.
(So comfy…)
Cecilia was a little moved by this.
“Thank you, Oscar.”
“It’s no big deal, well… after all, that happened.”
Oscar moved as close to the edge of the bed as possible.
“You can wake me up anytime if I snore too much…”
“Do you snore?”
“Hehehe, whenever I got into Gil’s bed, he would poke me awake for that reason.”
“You guys are really close.”
He said while being stunned.
“Because we’ve known each other since we were kids…”
“Is he like a brother?”
“Yeah, brother…or sist–…siblings…”
She tried hard to stay conscious while talking. But she was already falling asleep.
It’s probably because her body was warm and she felt relieved. The drowsiness came unexpectedly sooner than she imagined.
“Oscar… I’m already…”
“Don’t bother. Just sleep while you can.”
“Umm.”
Cecilia closed her eyes as she turned away from Oscar.
It took less than a second from closing her eyes to falling deeply asleep.

“You know what? You’re not snoring at all.”
Oscar whispered that in order to check if Cecil was really asleep. He just passed out in a blink, it almost seemed like he was lying when he said he couldn’t sleep.
He had a peaceful expression and was sleeping soundly.
Oscar got closer to Cecil and removed the hair over his cheek to take a look at his face.
It was a girl. It was a girl no matter how you look at it. He was really surprised that this person is a man.
“It’s really a feminine face. His body is so thin …”
The first time he noticed him in the auditorium when the 'disturbance’ appeared, he understood in a glance that it wasn’t because Cecil didn’t exercise.
However, his body was still too lean.
Moreover, that waistline made it easier to mistake him as a woman.
“There’s no way…he could be a girl…”
If that was the case, he wouldn’t climb into another man’s bed like this.
“But his face is so familiar…”
Oscar stared at Cecil’s face. But he couldn’t remember who he reminded him of.
“Uuuh!”
Perhaps noticing his gaze, Cecil suddenly turned over with a small groan. While Oscar was still observing Cecil’s face, the tips of their noses touched briefly.
“Tch–!”
Oscar hurriedly scooted away to escape the weird close proximity. It looked like they were about to kiss each other.
He felt his heart crazily beating and stuck himself to the wall, trying to get as far away as possible.
When he covered his face with his hands, he felt enough heat to understand that he turned beet red even without looking in the mirror.
“No, no, no. It can’t be. I’m just surprised! He’s a man and I’m a man too!”
He firmly reassured himself.
Actually, he understood what this feeling was. But if he consciously acknowledges it, he would never recover from this discovery.
“I have Cecilia!”
Deep in his heart, he thought of his first love.
The girl in his memories, exactly like the boy in front of him, made Oscar’s chest fill up with warmth.
Oscar laid down on the bed again, sticking to the wall, trying to keep the maximum possible distance away from Cecil.
“This is terrible. I shouldn’t have invited you here so willingly…”
He regretfully whispered after clearing out his mind.
