Chapter 167 - 168: Reinforcements
Chapter 167: Chapter 168: Reinforcements
The incoming wave of enemy forces seemed endless. Alyssa watched them advance, her grip tightening on her rifle. The first wave had been a brutal test of their strength, but this, this was something else. It was as if Volkov had been waiting for them to make a move, knowing exactly when to send in the cavalry.
"We're outnumbered," Eleanor said, crouching beside Alyssa, scanning the horizon with a grim expression. "Even with the artillery, we can't hold them off for long."
Alyssa could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on her. They had to make a decision, and fast. Nôv(el)B\\jnn
"Marcus," Alyssa said into her earpiece. "We need options. We can't win a straight-up fight."
Marcus's voice came through, low but calm despite the tension. "We still have the element of surprise. If we can lure them into the forest and break them into smaller groups, we might stand a chance. Hit them from all sides, guerrilla-style."
Alyssa nodded, glancing at Eleanor. "What do you think?"
Eleanor considered for a moment. "It's risky, but it could work. We'll have to be fast, though hit them before they can regroup."
"Alright, let's do it," Alyssa said. "Marcus, set up an ambush. We'll draw them in."
As Marcus moved to coordinate the plan, Alyssa and Eleanor rallied the Ukrainian soldiers. They were visibly shaken but still willing to fight. Alyssa knew they couldn't afford to lose their resolve now.
"Listen up!" she called out. "We're going to lead the enemy into the forest. Once they're spread out, we'll ambush them from every direction. Stick together, stay low, and trust your instincts. We've got one shot at this."
The soldiers nodded, their faces determined despite the fear in their eyes.
"Let's move!" Alyssa ordered.
The team quickly dispersed, retreating into the dense forest, leaving the artillery behind as bait. Alyssa could hear the sound of boots crunching through the underbrush as the enemy forces moved in, unaware of the trap being set.
Time seemed to slow as the first group of attackers approached. Alyssa watched from her position behind a fallen tree, waiting for the signal. Her heart pounded in her ears, and she could feel the adrenaline coursing through her veins.
Then, Marcus's voice crackled through her earpiece. "Now."
Gunfire erupted from the trees as Alyssa's team opened fire on the advancing forces. The enemy, caught off guard, scrambled for cover, but the dense forest worked against them. Alyssa fired off several rounds, picking off targets with precision as the chaos unfolded around her.
Eleanor, positioned to Alyssa's right, took down two more enemies with quick, clean shots. The Ukrainian soldiers, though inexperienced, fought with determination, using the terrain to their advantage.
But the enemy reinforcements kept coming, and for every soldier they took down, more seemed to replace them.
"This isn't going to be enough," Marcus's voice came through the comms, urgency creeping into his tone. "We need to cut off their supply line."
Alyssa scanned the battlefield, trying to figure out where the reinforcements were coming from. Then, she spotted it—a convoy of trucks parked on the far edge of the forest, just out of range.
"There," she said. "If we can take out that convoy, we can stop them from bringing in more troops."
"On it," Marcus replied. "But I'll need cover."
"We've got you," Alyssa said, motioning to Eleanor. "Let's give Marcus some breathing room."
Together, Alyssa and Eleanor moved through the forest, drawing the enemy's attention with sporadic bursts of gunfire. It was a delicate balance firing just enough to keep the attackers focused on them, but not so much that they burned through their ammunition too quickly.
Marcus, moving with the precision of a trained sniper, darted through the trees, making his way toward the convoy. He was fast, but the enemy was closing in.
"We don't have much time," Eleanor muttered, firing off another round as an enemy soldier tried to flank them.
Alyssa gritted her teeth, focusing on keeping the attackers at bay. She trusted Marcus, but the pressure was mounting. They were running out of cover, and the enemy was starting to adapt to their tactics.
Suddenly, a deafening explosion rocked the forest.
Alyssa looked up in time to see a plume of smoke rising from the convoy. Marcus had done it he'd taken out the trucks.
The enemy forces faltered, momentarily thrown off by the loss of their reinforcements. Alyssa seized the opportunity.
"Push forward!" she shouted to the team. "Now's our chance!"
With renewed energy, Alyssa's team surged ahead, overwhelming the disoriented attackers. The gunfire was relentless, and the forest echoed with the sounds of battle. But slowly, the tide began to turn.
One by one, the enemy soldiers fell, until finally, the last of them retreated into the shadows.
Alyssa collapsed behind a tree, her chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath. The forest was eerily quiet now, the only sound the distant crackle of fire from the destroyed convoy.
"We did it," Eleanor said, her voice filled with disbelief as she sat down beside Alyssa. "We actually did it."
Alyssa nodded, still trying to process the victory. "We bought ourselves some time, but this is far from over. Volkov's plan is still in motion, and we need to figure out his next move."
Marcus approached, wiping sweat from his brow. "We've won the battle, but the war is just beginning."
Alyssa stared into the darkening forest, her mind racing. She knew they couldn't afford to rest. Volkov was out there, watching, waiting and she had no doubt that he had more moves to play.
"We need to find him," Alyssa said, her voice hard. "Before he finds us."
With that, the team regrouped, their victory bittersweet. They had survived the first strike, but the storm was far from over.
What do you think?
