Chapter 3
C3 – The Competition among the Class Committee
Jing Mowen chuckled, “You big oaf, you love the spotlight, don’t you? Let’s see how you handle this beating I’m about to give your dog!”
With a flourish, Jing Mowen commanded confidently, “Mighty Bear, Explosive Strike!”
The black bear, though bulky, flashed a menacing glare. It charged at the black dog, its claws pounding the ground with such force that the arena trembled. Without a hint of mercy, it lashed out at the black dog.
Pei Henwen spoke with gravity, “Coalball, Bite!”
Undaunted, the black dog lunged, baring its fangs and snapping at the black bear!
Jiao Yuanju watched the two combat pets, his mind racing like an analyzer, swiftly displaying the stats of each creature.
Combat Pet: Mighty Bear
Gender: Male
Attribute: Earth
Current Level: Average
Evolution: Initial
Skills: Explosive Attack, Strike
Owner: Jing Mowen
Owner’s Level: Spiritual Intermediate
Combat Pet: Big Wolf Dog
Gender: Male
Attribute: Earth
Current Level: Average
Evolution: Initial
Skills: Bite, Roar
Owner: Pei Henwen
Owner’s Level: Spiritual Initial
Jiao Yuanju exclaimed in astonishment, “They’re both average level, but the Mighty Bear is clearly the stronger one. Plus, its owner is at the spiritual intermediate stage as a Combat Pet Master, indicating a higher synergy and combat effectiveness. It looks like the other guy is headed for a loss!”
A few heads turned towards Jiao Yuanju, their eyes brimming with skepticism and scorn. Who was this guy?
Realizing he might have spoken out of turn, Jiao Yuanju still stood by his assessment. In the battle of pet quality and master levels, Pei Henwen was outmatched by Jing Mowen. The result seemed inevitable.
The Big Wolf Dog leaped onto the black bear’s back, clamping down fiercely!
But the black bear retaliated with equal ferocity, its claws striking the black dog with rage. Post-evolution, both creatures were formidable beasts, and now they clashed in a brutal encounter.
The Big Wolf Dog’s Roar might have been effective against lesser beasts, but it was futile against a Mighty Bear of equal standing. Jing Mowen, patting his rotund stomach, cheered excitedly, “Mighty Bear, Strike!”
The black bear swiftly dipped its head and charged at the black dog, sending it tumbling away with a pained yelp.
Pei Henwen was startled and dashed over. In a mix of embarrassment and anger, he hurried his injured pet to the medical room, which was equipped to quickly treat wounded animals.
“He really lost.”
The crowd was deflated by the outcome. They had anticipated a clash of titans, but it ended in a lopsided rout.
Jing Mowen laughed triumphantly. “Well? Is there anyone left who doubts I should be class monitor?”
The onlookers exchanged uneasy glances. With the Mighty Bear still looking fierce and formidable, silence fell over them.
Pei Chang, the homeroom teacher, anticipated this and spoke with equanimity, “If there are no further challenges, Jing Mowen will be our class monitor. You may now proceed to test your Combat Pet Master levels.”
Jiao Yuanju was immediately unsettled. The Spiritual Level was the benchmark for entry-level Combat Pet Masters. One had to reach this level to qualify for various positions. Yet, with the system’s assistance, he had already ascended to the elite tier. Although uncertain if there were other elite contenders in their cohort, Jing Mowen was merely a spiritual intermediate-level Combat Pet Master. Jiao Yuanju knew his own talents and combat pet were strong among the newcomers. Becoming class monitor was essential for greater influence—he had to secure a spot on the class council!
As Jiao Yuanju readied himself to challenge Jing Mowen, a soft female voice rang out, “Teacher, I’d like to challenge him!”
The voice belonged to a statuesque girl from the back of Class 7. Her attire showcased her long legs and charming face. She flashed the teacher a sweet, lively smile, captivating all the boys.
Pei Chang looked her way and chuckled, “Ah, Zhen Heyi. There’s no need for you to compete—you’re a shoo-in for class monitor or deputy.”
A murmur of surprise rippled through the crowd. She was either incredibly skilled or came from a distinguished family.
Pei Chang added coolly, “Zhen Heyi is a spiritual advanced-level Combat Pet Master. If any of you believe you can best her, feel free to step up and challenge her.”
The room drew in a collective breath. This seemingly delicate girl was, in fact, a spiritual advanced-level Combat Pet Master!
Jing Mowen fell silent, not daring to utter another word.
Suddenly, Jiao Yuanju rose to his feet and declared, “Teacher, I challenge Jing Mowen!”
Many had already caught a glimpse of his Combat Pet and scoffed, “All he has is a green snake—that’s the most basic wild beast there is.”
Yet, everyone was well aware that Jiao Yuanju’s pet was exceptional. The Green Snake was a creature of evolution, a specimen that might fetch more than 10,000 Alliance Coins. Still, the gathering boasted many Combat Pets that outmatched the Green Snake.
Jiao Yuanju, undeniably handsome, had the smallest Combat Pet present. The crowd was eager to witness his tiny Green Snake become prey to the Mighty Bear.
Jing Mowen let out a mocking laugh, “I’m just worried you’ll burst into tears if I end up killing your Green Snake!”
Confidence wasn’t Jiao Yuanju’s strong suit, especially since this was his inaugural experience with a combat pet—he had never been in a battle. But the thought of Eoldrai’s level and abilities, as described by the system, bolstered his spirit. Mediocrity was not in his nature; it’s not what drove him to enroll in the Combat Pet Academy. He was determined to rise to the top—to become the class leader!
