Erix finally relaxed after thirty minutes of constant focus on extracting the life essence of Belrugian Vitalis.

Rin removed her hands from Erix's back before locking her arms around his neck. "What's the progress now?" she asked.

Lilith sat across Erix, smiling, "I expect a good number because this one had quite a lot of pure life power."

"Haha, it's indeed a good number," Erix laughed and widely grinned as he revealed, "I've reached 89%!"

And right at that moment, a notification rang in their heads.

Not just them, but every single person in Langriss Woodland heard the voice.

[Emergency event. Abyss rule 3rd enacted. Imminent catastrophe by a rule-breaker has been started.]

[Langriss Woodland has been locked down. No one can leave or enter until the catastrophe is prevented.]

"What the...."

Erix, Rin, and Lilith were dumbfounded.

But two more notifications rang.

The most important ones.

[Side Task: Kill the Mad Witch.]

[Main Task: Destroy the Terror Nexus activated by Mad Witch.]

—> Note: failure to destroy the Terror Nexus will result in the extermination of all living beings within Langriss Woodland.

Rin and Erix didn't know what those rewards could do, but Lilith's heart was shaking.

"The rewards are crazy, but that also means that these two tasks are equally catastrophic," Lilith uttered with a somber expression.

Suddenly, her expression changed, and she created a barrier around her.

A vial suddenly fell on Lilith's barrier, exploded, and created a hole.

'Rin, Erix. Quickly go and find the Terror Nexus! I can already feel the area changing. Monsters and plantlife are forcefully evolving into corruption, and everything will soon turn chaotic.'

Indeed, the old witch with a long shaggy nose recovered entirely from a tiny black shard with a green dot.

Lilith felt the atmosphere around her turning rotten, and her eyes glowed in response, immediately using her Domain to trap the Witch inside to kill her with full power.

Meanwhile, Rin and Erix were unharmed since they were lower-rank, and the Witch's attacks couldn't affect them.

"Terror Nexus," Erix muttered as he looked around, his eyes shining with a silver sheen.

Rin saw that their surroundings were rapidly changing.

Everything was turning darker, including mountains and plant life.

Suddenly, a giant tree thirty meters away from Erix released several dark purple vines with yellow dots.

*Crackle!*

Rin moved swiftly, cutting off all vines and protecting Erix as he continued to observe using his Space Mapping to locate the Terror Nexus.

*Roar!*

A thirty-meter giant Empyrean-order frog jumped from a huge lake behind the mountain range.

Rin turned around and looked up as the frog jumped higher than the mountain's height.

'Empyrean-order? Phew.'

The frog was constantly changing as if some invisible power was affecting it.

It opened its mouth and rolled out its five-meter-thick tongue towards Rin and Erix on a mountain peak.

*BOOM!*

The duo remained unharmed as the frog's tongue and its powers passed through them.

Erix released two wisps amidst the destruction of the mountain peak and vanished with Rin.

Both of them appeared ten kilometers high above in the sky.

"Did you find it?" Rin asked.

"Not yet," Erix shook his head. "Let's go. We'll have to be quick."

Both of them vanished again as Erix teleported to another spot and started Space Mapping.

However, the trees, plants, and monsters in the area were evolving strangely and continued to target Erix and Rin, relentlessly attacking them.

"You focus on finding it. I'll protect us both."

*Crackle!*

Rin entered her combat form, but Erix frowned. "Rin, don't waste spirit energy. I am out of it, and you only have half remaining."

"We'll need half an hour to recover, so save yours in case of emergency."

"Yep. I'll only use Prana and my Blade Qi."

Rin focused and nullified the incoming energy attacks from monsters, flowing them within her Chronace Field and turning them chaotic before taking the chaotic energies under her control.

She used it in her attacks to kill the monsters and corrupted plant life while Erix was soon done scanning the area and underground.

Meanwhile, the Langriss Kingdom was in panic mode because all the monsters and plant life in the city were also corrupted and gained singular sentience to cause terror and destruction by Terror Nexus.

One of the two giant mountains, the one with Spiritual Nature Pools shook powerfully.

It cracked all over before strangely rising as tens of thousands of people on it panicked and quickly ran away while defending and killing the plant life that attacked them.

*Hrrrrrrr*

The mountain rose and turned into a giant as a pair of dark green eyes glowed on its peak that started resembling a head.

Two arms also emerged from its mountainous structure before two legs blasted out from the bottom.

People scrambled and scattered as chaos ensued. Everyone used their powers to defend themselves from the mass destruction ensuing and fought against the corrupted monsters birthed from flora and fauna by the Terror Nexus.

The most terrible thing was the mountain that turned into a monster.

If it released even a single attack, half the entire city would be destroyed, resulting in many deaths.

But a hero prevented that from happening.

Amu materialized right before the giant mountain's head and looked at its eyes.

"Sit down!"

A burst of mystical spiritual power released, entering the terror soul that manifested in the mountain.

The mountain giant roared, its eyes dimmed while flickering before it started to compact back into the mountain.

'This terror nexus…' Amu frowned its slimy face, feeling the flow of this power that was affecting everything except for people.

'Someone planted this long ago, and now it's activated…'

'Where is it?!'

Amu started searching for Terror Nexus as well.

The Palace, Elf Queen, King, and other powerhouses also emerged and started fighting against the Empynrea-order level threats that entered the city.

Nothing was safe because even a pot of flowers could be turned into a terrifying monster.

Teleporting 17 kilometers deep below the ground, Rin and Erix arrived in a huge empty underground cavern with a black lake.

In the middle of the lake was a dark violet crystal with yellow and dark green spots, looking exceedingly eerie as it constantly pulsed with glow.
