Chapter 419 Guarding
After the previous defeat, Alavenya had returned to the normal dormitory, so they ended up meeting in front of the dormitory.
"So, what's the mission?" Alavenya asked. "Just to let you know, even if we are fighting together, it doesn't mean we'll be able to complete an impossible mission."
"I know that much." Nathan nodded. He took out a piece of paper from his coat. "This is the mission."
Alavenya unfolded the paper and took a brief look at the details.
[Mission: Auction Guards.]
[Detail: Deviant Auction House is about to hold its annual auction, bringing a lot of attention from nobles and merchants. However, it is said that the auction house also garners attention to a certain evil organization. The mission required multiple people with the ability to fight mature class aliens to guard the auction house from a potential attack.]
[Reward: 2,500 Gold Coins.]
"Isn't this a lot of money? Then again, multiple people, huh…" Alavenya was quite surprised there was a mission like this. It would usually get a lot of contributions. It didn't matter to Nathan anymore, but Alavenya could upgrade her room again if she finished this mission.
"Yep. We will head there tomorrow morning and hear the details about them. Considering it requires multiple people with the ability to fight mature class aliens, I'm assuming this organization has at least three people at the master level."
"Master level?" Alavenya paused for a moment. "Ah. The new rank…"
"Yeah. You have registered your identity, no?" Nathan asked.
"Yeah. My father sent me a letter to register myself even though I hated it because you were the one who created it. But I had no other choice." Alavenya nodded.
"Hahaha. It's hard to be popular."
"I'm not complimenting you!" Alavenya raised her voice.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Nathan raised a finger while ignoring her words. "Anyway, I will ask my master to finish the registration for both of us before tomorrow. It's just a temporary identification, but it's good to test the efficiency of the identification card."
"Fine." Alavenya sighed. "Still, we have to guard this auction house, no? I'm not really good at doing things secretly."
"I will be the one to handle that." Nathan waved his hand, telling her not to worry. "But you better listen to my order. Or is it beneath you to be ordered by me?!"
"You—!" Alavenya clenched her fists. "Do you think just because we will be doing a mission together, I won't be hostile toward you?"
Nathan casually raised another finger, which was noticeable enough for Alavenya.
"What's that? You're counting?" Alavenya frowned.
"Yes. In this mission, I will be counting how many times you raise your voice and have an angry moment," Nathan smirked.
"You bastard. Do you think I will allow this?" Alavenya raised her voice.
Nathan simply raised another finger.
"I will punch you."
Nathan raised the fourth finger, which provoked Alavenya even more.
"You—" Alavenya stopped when she saw Nathan was about to raise his thumb, showing that it was already the fifth time, and they hadn't even talked a lot. She clenched her fists as Nathan was pumping as if he wanted her to make it five.
But Alavenya didn't let him have his fun. She took a deep breath and said in a calm tone. "You freak. What's your intention?"
Nathan's face distorted a bit. "Is that 5? No. Let's call it 4.5. But it's hard to count with decimals. I'm a kind person, so I will let that one slide."
Alavenya's expression darkened, thinking that Nathan had the natural talent of annoying people.
Nathan smiled. "Anyway, the plan is rather simple. We will go there and learn more. We will stay in the inn or the auction house depending on where they need us. Depending on the circumstances, I will give more details to our plans.
"The general idea is that we'll be checking the condition of the auction house to see if there's any place they can use to harm the people. Then, we'll be stationed outside and check the people to ensure their identities and that they don't bring anything harmful.
"Any conflicts that arise from the participants will be handled by the auction house, not us. That's all. Do you have any questions?"
"One thing. How do you plan to split the reward?"
Nathan nodded. "You can get all the contribution points. The reward money will be split evenly between us. I doubt there will be cores, but if there's one, it will be mine. Unless there are a lot of cores, there's no need to split the cores. It's all mine."
Alavenya thought for a moment. Considering she had to stay in this school for at least one and a half years, the room was much more important to her.
Hence, she agreed almost immediately. "Fine."
"Alright. Let's meet again tomorrow morning."
Alavenya nodded before returning to her room. Nathan, on the other hand, headed to his master to process the registration. Since they were the ones who created it, Nathan, Selena, Sera, and Alavenya immediately got their temporary identification card. As long as he was around and people recognized him, they wouldn't have to worry about a counterfeit.
…
The next day.
Nathan waved his hand to Selena and Sera while exiting the school with Alavenya. "I'm going. It won't take more than seven days. I'll be back soon."
"Sure. Take care." Selena and Sera waved back.
They looked like they were worried about him. But as soon as Nathan turned back, Sera whispered to Selena. "Let's have a bet. Alavenya will definitely hit Nathan once during this mission. The winner will get alone time with him for a day."
Selena chuckled. "In that case, I believe Alavenya will stay with us after this mission."
"Huh?" Sera widened her eyes.
Selena shrugged. "Nathan has always used himself whenever he plans something. As annoying as it is, it doesn't change the fact that it always works. Since he is putting himself in danger this time, it means the outcome is nothing but guaranteed."
Sera was stunned. "That's not fair."
"You can admit your defeat today. Oh wait. You need to focus on your physical training. I'll oversee it today."
"Wait, no. Dear sister…" Sera smiled sweetly, only to be confronted with a hard 'no' from Selena as the latter dragged her back to their house.
