Chapter 22: Canna's Secondborn

Canna woke up feeling refreshed, as though from a deep nap. He saw Mortem beside him and a shadowy figure standing nearby. Curious, Canna observed the figure approach and kneel before him.

"Name me, my liege," the figure's voice resonated with a blend of loyalty and expectation, awaiting Canna's command.

Canna could tell that the being in front of him was the result of the spell "Create Elder Undead." He could feel a strong, instinctual connection with it just like with Mortem. Observing closely, Canna took in its striking features: red skin, long black hair falling down its broad shoulders, and tusks protruding from its fearsome face.

As the figure stood before him, its aura was palpably sharp and intimidating, radiating a presence that demanded respect even as it knelt. Canna felt a mixture of awe and apprehension at the sight of his creation, knowing its potential as both ally and protector in the battles to come.

Canna couldn't contain his joy! He quickly stood up and thought of a name for his newfound creation. After a few moments, he settled on "Vorgrim."

As Canna named him, Vorgrim suddenly glowed with an otherworldly light as he rose to his full height of at least three meters. His physique was sculpted like that of a natural warrior that was born for the battlefield.

"I haven't seen warriors in this world yet, Vorgrim," Canna mused, awe in his voice. "But looking at you, I feel they should resemble someone like you."

Vorgrim bowed his head respectfully, his glowing eyes fixed on Canna. "I thank my liege for such a noble name," he rumbled, his voice resonating with gratitude.

Vorgrim's spoke, his voice resonating with confidence and depth, befitting a warlord. "I shall be your sword henceforth, my liege," he declared. "Mortem has briefed me on our course of action. Are you ready to embark on the path of the warrior, master?"

Canna's eyes reflected unwavering determination as he spoke.

"I am ready. My my long term goa is to establish a sanctuary, a refuge. To even envision such a dream, strength is crucial. Your presence here assures me that I am closer to that goal. Now, what should we work on first?"

Vorgrim lifted his sword high, assuming a combat-ready stance.

"Engage in combat with me, my liege," he challenged. "Give it your all, hold nothing back."

"Hohhh," Canna exhaled heavily. Ever since the day he had slain his first goblin, he had dedicated himself to relentless training, honing his skills in efficient combat. He had faced various opponents, employing diverse strategies and attacking techniques. Yet, for the first time since arriving in Sepra, a sense of defeat washed over him.

Not even opponents of higher rank had evoked such doubt within him. Just the sight of Vorgrim raising his sword made him question his resolve. Taking a deep breath, he composed himself and summoned his daggers, he then surrounded himself with ten floating water arrows and prepared for combat.

"Excellent, my liege," Vorgrim commended. "The skill I'm using is called "Aura of Dread" which weakens the resolves of my enemies. The fact that it affected you even briefly is worthy of praise."

With those words, Vorgrim vanished from Canna's sight.

_______________

As Canna and Vorgrim readied themselves for their sparring session, Mortem approached Tonitrum with a question he needed to confirm.

As if sensing Mortem's thoughts, Tonitrum responded with a hint of arrogance, confirming the undead's suspicion. "A Voragon," he declared. "Their race has long been extinct. I never imagined I would see one again, but it seems even the impossible is within my realm of knowledge."

"Undead, do you know why the Voragons went extinct?" Tonitrum asked. Mortem pondered the question, but after a few moments, he couldn't come up with an answer.

Tonitrum then elaborated, "The Voragons were the first to embrace the path of a warrior. Everywhere they went, they were unrivaled. Their strength made them nearly invincible against ordinary humans and other races. However, with their immense power came an insatiable thirst for more. They enslaved other races, waged relentless wars for resources, and burned entire kingdoms to the ground.

In fact, the very first being to earn the title of 'Harbinger' was a Voragon."

He paused, his tone growing even more arrogant. "Their unchecked aggression and tyranny forced the other races and kingdoms to unite against them. In ancient times, a grand alliance was formed with the sole purpose of hunting down every single Voragon. This concerted effort ultimately led to their complete extinction."

Mortem listened intently to Tonitrum's explanation. After taking in the details, he turned his attention back to his master, who had just finished summoning water arrows. The revelation about the Voragon's history left Mortem uncertain. He couldn't decide if having an ancient warrior with such a dark past would ultimately be beneficial or detrimental to his master.

However, one thing was clear: Mortem needed to focus on strengthening Canna and ensuring his master was prepared for whatever challenges lay ahead. For now, his priority was to support and fortify Canna, making sure he was ready to handle any threats that might arise.
