Chapter 171: Dying Flame
Chapter 171: Dying Flame
[Utopia City, Western Palace]
The bright red sun was setting on the horizon as the sky turned scarlet red under its glow when Kaya reached the city and walked towards the administration office to meet with Behemoon.
Guards were nowhere to be seen, walking further, she gently opened the doors and found nobody inside.
'Where is she? Usually, she will sit all day long before the desk and read various documents'
Looking out of the window, she noticed the settings sun on the western horizon and turned around to leave.
She finally got her answer. She was in such a hurry that she had forgotten that it's already time for the office hours to end.
Walking through the hallway, she reached the bedroom of Behemoon and knocked on the door.
But no response came from the other side.
So, she slowly opened the door and entered.
The bedroom of Behemoon was dyed entirely in the scarlet red color of setting sun with the long shadow of Behemoon reaching the doorsteps as she sat beside the windows, looking at clouds with a tranquil and somewhat absent-minded face.
Seeing this, Kaya was silent. It was the first time she had seen Behemoon so distracted and lost.
She slowly walked towards her and stood beside her. She looked at the clouds and turned her head to face Behemoon.
Behemoon blinked and came back to her senses and noticed Kaya standing beside her.
"When did you arrive, Kaya?"
"Just now, but what about you? Why are you so absent-minded today?"
Behemoon shook her head. "I was thinking about the time we had spent outside the forbidden forest, four months have just passed in a blink of an eye, and three months later, the world will expand again. The unknown world we know nothing about. Kaya, have you ever thought that one day we would be out here, in our human form. Talking with people of completely different race and beliefs?"
Kaya shook her head.
'If we had not met Kai. Maybe we would not even have known what the world looks like behind the divine barrier covering the Forbidden Forest's core region? It was our entire world for thirty thousand years'
Thinking about it, Kaya couldn't help but feel a surge of happiness.
Knowingly or unknowingly, Kai had brought so many changes to the six beast lords' dull lives. In the last three months, they have learned many things. Some information even comes from their bloodline's sleeping memories, giving them the ability to help Kai more efficiently and effectively.
"Anyway, what happened with Ellie's plan of turning Saintess into the lord's gift?"
Kaya helplessly smiled. "She said that after observing her for four days and seeing how kind her behavior is. She gave up her plan."
Behemoon eyes widened on hearing Kaya reply.
"Oh! When did she start considering others' feelings? Are you sure it was our Ellie who made such decisions without getting scolded by our Lord?"
"I was also wondering about that? Just what is going on in her mind? Remember how she went and aggressively went after Lord as soon as she got the chance to mate with the Lord without considering our feelings. I can understand that she was not able to hold back her feelings. But from time to time, she keeps on teasing us. Like, how we are still holding back ourselves from telling Lord about our heartfelt feelings about him. Though, it's a shame that our Lord had lost the ability to produce a child. Lord is already heaven-defying his children would also have been no less than him"
Behemoon and Kaya both sighed as they looked towards the sun disappearing in the sky, declaring the end of the day.
Suddenly Behemoon remembered something.
"Kaya, I forgot to tell you that Julis came to my office yesterday to report that some strange things are happening with the fire phoenix egg. From the looks of it, he is anxious and came to seek your advice."
"Did you say the phoenix egg is going through changes?" Asked Kaya.
"Yes, Last time you went to look at the condition of the Phoenix egg. Did you find something unknown about it?"
Kaya took a long breath and placed her hand on her heart with wavering eyes.
"It's a dead egg."
"What a dead egg?"
"Yes, that egg core has been dead for many years. I can't imagine what type of Phoenix that egg belongs to so that its life force's residue exists to this day. Eventually, that last bit of its life force will disappear. The only thing I can do now is bury it with honor and dignity that it deserves as a member of the Magic Beast race after the last flame is exhausted."
Hearing that, Behemoon nodded and looked at the door. She could feel the presence of a person silently listening to their talks.
He was Julis some minutes ago. He had gotten the news that Kaya had returned and was currently inside Behemoon's Quarter.
But upon arrival, he never had thought that he would hear such a painful truth. The Sacred symbol of their family and the Alfrine Kingdom is at its last breaths. He lowered his head and tightened his fists. That egg is not just an ordinary symbol but also a great benefactor of their family; without it, his family and the Alfrine Kingdom would not have existed. It's a pillar of the Alfrine Kingdom Faith and their belief. The undying golden flames that inspired generations of Kings to keep going through whatever obstacles appeared on their path. It's that eternal will that had made the Alfrine Kingdom what it is today. People say that he had changed the impoverished nation into a prosperous country, but he had just given a direction to that eternal will by planning and setting milestones to reach.
With a painful, heartbreaking feeling, he opened the doors of the room and silently walked inside. He already knows that they have sensed his presence.
Kaya and Behemoon turned around and saw that depressed face of Julis.
Kaya shook her head"I am sorry, Julis. But I cannot help."
Kaya was really feeling sorry but she is also helpless about the present condition. Julis must have been hopeful and had thought that she could help him deal with it.
"It's not Miss Kaya's fault. It must be destiny. In the first place it was me who came to ask for help. The Alfrine Kingdom had become part of the Buraford Kingdom, and our symbol of will and pride is also at its last breaths. But...."
Julis pulls his right hand as small golden flames burn on his palm, brightening the dark room with its golden radiance.
"It will forever be with us," said Julis wisely with a hopeful expression.
"Now, don't kill it. There may be a way to revive that dead egg."
Upon hearing the sudden voice coming from the entrance of the room, they got caught off-guard.
They looked and found someone standing there.
