Chapter 148: Harmoniously Different
Wang Wen left after completing the registration form at the Regional Security Department.
All tower climbers must first register at the Regional Security Department on the 200th floor, according to the rules. Otherwise, they would be discredited. Their personal accounts might even be frozen.
Wang Wen appreciated having rules.
People could only feel at ease when there were rules in place.
A group like the Tiansheng Group, which killed people over minor disagreements, was an evil element that did not follow the rules. They must be eradicated as soon as possible.
With his power, he could not quickly eliminate and replace the world’s second-largest consortium.
The Tiansheng Group was far too large.
Even if his doppelganger had killed all of the Tiansheng Group’s management, the Tiansheng Group would have been devoured by other forces.
He would not be able to feel at ease unless he killed everyone stronger than him.
Instead of scattering and turning the Tiansheng Group’s resources into nutrients for the earth, it was better to keep them alive for the time being and wait until he was strong enough to take on them.
Wang Wen walked out of the Regional Security Department, contemplating the various plans that would come next. In the middle of the night, he walked slowly down the street.
It was three in the morning.
It was usually time for people to be in bed.
That night, however, was different.
Restaurant stalls on both sides of the street were still brightly lit.
That night was the last day for climbers to leave the tower.
They had many reasons to rejoice, celebrate, drink, and boast.
Wang Wen had just passed by the small roadside stall.
The robot was expressionless, flipping and roasting various kebabs to precise temperatures.
Three men were seated around a small table next to it.
One of them was a large, shirtless man who had been holding a beer in his hand for an extended period without drinking it. On the last floor, he was drooling and exclaiming his bravery and intelligence. He had solved the complex mechanism in record time, saving his teammates who were in danger.
The two listeners were savoring the tasty skewers. They would occasionally compliment him and ask, “Then the beautiful teammate you mentioned must be very smitten by you.”
Brawny Man was thrilled. “Of course!” says one.
After a few more bites of the meat on the skewers, the listener asked, “Why didn’t you give her your contact information after that?”
Brawny Man was taken aback.
He took a big gulp of his beer after picking it up. In frustration, he said, “That was how the team was. They went off on their own after leaving the tower. There was no way to do that.”
The other listener did not appear to be very rational. He laughed and said, “Then it is still your fault because you didn’t attract them! Otherwise, why are you in such a rush to leave? They would almost certainly exchange contact information with you and stay in touch after leaving the tower!”
Brawny Man glared at him angrily. “What are you talking about? They were so badly hurt that they had to rush out of the tower to be treated! We are tower climbers! The tower climbers are like dancers on a knife’s edge! How can we care about a relationship at such a critical juncture?”
“Blah, blah, blah.”
Wang Wen had already walked far away, so he could not hear the rest of their conversation.
It was only a brief fireworks display, but it helped his tense heart relax a little.
At the streets and alleys.
The late-night food consisted of only those few items.
A table leaning against the glass in the bright dining room held steaming hot pots.
There were barbeque skewers on a metal plate on a small table surrounded by a few stools.
A man waited patiently while smoking guarded a simple mobile home.
At various temperatures, various types of food with varying prices were used to warm the hearts and stomachs of all those who returned home at night.
They would go to bed after eating and drinking to their hearts’ content, only to wake up the next day and say, “It is a good time to be alive.”
Wang Wen walked with a faint smile, somewhat enamored by the distant and near-misty brilliance.
He unknowingly walked to the academy’s entrance.
Compared to the tens of thousands of lights on the street, the academy, which was supposed to be the most vibrant, was pitch-black and devoid of life.
Wang Wen’s initially light mood became heavy.
He stood up and walked through the main gate.
A small light was turned on in the pitch-black buildings.
It was the dormitory for third graders.
Wang Wen lifted his head and counted the number of rooms downstairs. He climbed the stairs and turned on various sensor lights. He eventually found the room and knocked on the door.
“Who is it?”
A vigilant man’s voice was heard.
Wang Wen thought the voice sounded familiar. He paused for a moment before saying tentatively, “Senior Li? I am Wang Wen.”
The door swung open.
It was Li He.
After exhaustion, his expression appeared to be pleasantly surprised. He moved aside and nodded toward Wang Wen. “It was tower day today. Have you just finished your work? Please take a seat.”
Wang Wen entered the room.
The room was simple.
It had a bed, a table, and a chair.
Aside from a bucket of laundry waiting to be washed, the entire room was still relatively clean.
Li He moved a chair for him to sit on and turned to get a cup. “What do you want to drink?” he asked casually.
“What do you have?” Wang Wen asked.
“Water,” he said, stunned.
“What else?” Wang Wen asked.
“Nothing else,” Li He said.
Wang Wen was taken aback. “So, what is the point of asking me that?”
Li He smiled as he held the cup. “To see how rude you are.”
Wang Wen sat in the chair and took two bottles of Body Health Water. He said, “Have some of this.”
Li He walked over to the bed. He picked up the bottle on the table and exclaimed, “Whoa!” He laughed and said, “When I last saw you, you said you were poor. You now use a 2,000-point prop as a drink.”
Wang Wen pretended to be irritated. “Give it back to me if you don’t want it!”
Li He unscrewed the bottle cap without saying anything and drank nearly half the bottle.
With just a few words, the atmosphere between the two improved.
It was harmoniously different. It was something along those lines.
Wang Wen casually flipped through the book on the table, discovering many names. Some were crossed out, some were checked, and most were left blank.
Li He went out of his way to explain, “I applied for the position of Dean. They were concerned that no one would take it. Regardless of whether I have the qualifications, I double-checked that the water and electricity grids in the academy were still operational. The staff and teachers were more important than the collapsed buildings, which had already been rebuilt. After asking around, we have some staff but no teachers. Everyone had heard about the tragedy, and no one dared to apply for a position at the academy.”
Wang Wen shut the book.
“Is it possible to teach ourselves instead of looking for teachers?” he wondered.
“We?” Li He glanced at him. “How many levels have you completed so far?”
Wang Wen smiled as he pushed the book away. He said, “Don’t be concerned about my level. Since the incident at the academy, I have been wondering why, despite having so many teachers and students, the academy had no cohesion and was so weak.”
Li He was silent.
With a mocking expression, he said, “Because the first lesson of the academy was also the most frequently taught. Do not trust those who walk beside you.”
“That is correct!” Wang Wen nodded. “It was precisely the atmosphere that the academy had always had that caused me to disregard it when looking for a collaborator. I would rather go to the Regional Security Department than think about the teachers and students at the academy. That was terrible. Looking at all the consortiums, large and small, they have used various methods to gather members. Only the academy attempted to maintain its autonomy. Even the dorms had only one person and one room. There was absolutely no cohesion.”
Li He helplessly spread his hands. “What should I do? After all, the academy was just a stepping stone. Nobody is going to stay here forever. All students were present to help the major consortiums develop further after graduation.”
“So we must change!” Wang Wen’s gaze was fixed, and his tone was solemn.
