Chapter 37
Chapter 37
Jiang Xia immediately backed off when Xiao Haiqing stood up for Jing Yunzhao.
“I meant well,” Jiang Xia pouted and said unhappily.
“I don’t care what you were trying to do, just stay out of Jing Yunzhao’s and my way. Don’t you like to be coupled with Ye Qing and what’s-her-face from Class 2? Just mind your own business and stop lecturing others as if you know so much!” Xiao Haiqing rolled her eyes and huffed, Jiang Xia’s timid behaviour pissing her off even more.
Jing Yunzhao couldn’t help but admire the bold way Xiao Haiqing spoke.
She liked Xiao Haiqing even more now.
She did not even have one friend in her previous life, but she had found Su Chu and Xiao Haiqing within the first week of her new life. Things were really looking up.
“Alright, alright! The teacher will be here anytime now, so will you stop talking and disturbing those who are studying?” As the commissary in charge of studies, Ye Qing who was sitting in front of Jing Yunzhao spoke out angrily, humiliated.
Ye Qing sounded confident but she had almost buried her head in her arms, exposing how nervous she really was.
Jing Yunzhao was not naturally aggressive and had no intention of humiliating Jiang Xia or Ye Qing, especially at this time.
Xiao Haiqing turned to her deskmate and made him switch seats with Jing Yunzhao.
Jing Yunzhao had probably set a record for changing seats, considering she had switched places twice in only one morning.
Ms. Kim glanced at the new seating arrangement when she entered the classroom and did not say a word, fairly satisfied with it.
Jing Yunzhao as the top student of their school would probably not be able to perform well if she was isolated and had to sit at the back of the classroom. Ms. Kim had been hoping to have Jing Yunzhao sit in the front, but she hadn’t expected that someone would want to sit with her.
Jing Yunzhao’s first day of school in her new life passed quietly after the incident.
When class was over, Jing Yunzhao found a note in her book saying ‘I meant well, please don’t be angry’.
Although there was no name on it, Jing Yunzhao could easily tell who it was from.
Jing Yunzhao crumpled the note up and threw it into the dustbin.
She had had enough of these self-complacent people and was sick of trying to explain things to them.
…
Huaning County had beautiful landscapes with plenty of mountains and rivers. The air was fresh even in the busiest town, and their economy was so good that the streets remained lively and brightly lit even at night.
Jing Yunzhao turned down Xiao Haiqing and Su Chu’s offer to walk together after class and went to a big traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy alone with a woven basket full of fresh ginseng.
She didn’t have much money left with her. She had to find a way to make money if she wanted to live independently.
This traditional Chinese medicine pharmacy in front of her was the biggest and oldest in town. The lights inside were especially bright as night fell, and she could see its interior clearly.
Jing Yunzhao waited outside for some time, observing the people entering and exiting the pharmacy. After a while, she realized that most people came to the pharmacy to buy, not sell.
It was only after another half an hour that Jing Yunzhao finally entered the pharmacy after an old man who seemed ethical turned up there. Everyone in the pharmacy seemed surprised to see Jing Yunzhao.
The old man looked at Jing Yunzhao and then at her woven basket. His brows rose and he asked in surprise, “Are… are you here to sell these herbs, little girl?”
