Chapter 41 - 39: You're not afraid of breaking the law, why should I be afraid of the Deng Family?
Chapter 41: Chapter 39: You’re not afraid of breaking the law, why should I be afraid of the Deng Family?
“You, you dare! You dare to call the police!” Deng Yunran had been arrogant and domineering for over twenty years, but this was the first time she had encountered someone like Qiao Jing who would call the police without so much as a word.
She was the precious daughter of the Deng Family, whose friends coddled and flattered her.
And for those insignificant people who offended her, just revealing her identity was enough to scare them off.
“Move aside,” Qiao Jing looked at the burly bodyguard in front of her and said expressionlessly.
The bodyguard glanced at Deng Yunran. He was just a worker; without a word from Deng Yunran, he could do nothing, or else his salary would be docked.
“I don’t believe you dare to call the police!” Deng Yunran concluded that Qiao Jing was only trying to scare her, after all, the Deng Family was one of the elite wealthy families. Offending the Deng Family and trying to get by in the capital was as difficult as ascending to the heavens.
“And you—” Deng Yunran pointed at Steward Li, “You are just a minor steward at Wonderful Hall, yet you dare to offend me for a trivial nobody. If your boss hears about this, see if you don’t get fired!”
Steward Li looked at Deng Yunran indifferently; his boss was right here; he feared no one!
As Steward Li was thinking this, Qiao Jing’s voice rose.
“From today onwards, Wonderful Hall will no longer do business with her, and she is not allowed to set foot in any of our stores nationwide.”
Deng Yunran’s eyes widened as she looked at Qiao Jing, “Who do you think you are? You say Wonderful Hall won’t do business with me, so it won’t? Do you think you’re the big boss of Wonderful Hall?”
Steward Li coldly turned to Deng Yunran, “Miss Deng, the words she just said, that’s the stance of Wonderful Hall.”
What?!
Deng Yunran couldn’t believe her ears, looking at Qiao Jing then Steward Li, before a look of sudden understanding flashed across her face.
“I get it now; you two know each other, you’re relatives! Well, well, it makes sense now, birds of a feather! Steward Li, you have some nerve, a mere steward, and you dare say such things to me. Just wait, when I get back I’ll tell my dad, I’ll find whoever’s above you and get you fired!”
Qiao Jing couldn’t be bothered to continue dealing with Deng Yunran, and looking at the bodyguard blocking her way, she repeated, “Move aside.”
The bodyguard also felt that Deng Yunran was too overbearing, but he was helpless.
“Alright, I won’t make it difficult for you.” Qiao Jing noticed the difficulty on the bodyguard’s face; if not for that, she might have already taken action.
Qiao Jing took out her phone and dialed out.
“I want to report a crime, I’m at Wonderful Hall, there’s someone claiming to be some wealthy family’s daughter, illegally causing trouble and trying to rob my things…”
She really called the police!!
Deng Yunran’s mouth gaped open wide, and the onlookers watching the drama were both shocked and admiring.
Awesome! Not intimidated by power! What guts!
“You, you really did call the police, aren’t you afraid of offending our Deng Family?” Deng Yunran’s face turned pale as she stuttered her words.
Qiao Jing glanced over with a look, “If you’re not afraid of breaking the law, should I be afraid of your Deng Family?”
Deng Yunran swallowed her saliva and involuntarily took a step back as if to run.
“You keep claiming you are from the Deng Family, you can run from the monk but not from the temple. Do you think that will help?” Qiao Jing said, lightly raising her eyebrows, thin like wisps of green smoke, as she watched Deng Yunran.
Deng Yunran was both angry and afraid, and finally, she exploded.
“You’re dead meat! You’re done for! Not just you, but also your family! Your friends, I’ll make them all suffer because of you!”
Qiao Jing’s expression suddenly turned cold, her gaze icy and chilling.
She hated it most when someone threatened her with the people around her; that was her reverse scale.
When Deng Yunran saw the sudden look in Qiao Jing’s eyes, she felt an intense chill invade her body, freezing her to the bone.
Soon, Captain Zhao arrived with his team.
Normally, Captain Zhao would not personally handle such matters.
But when it pertained to Qiao Jing, it had to be given due attention.
Deng Yunran had already planned in her mind that as soon as the police officer arrived, she would immediately pull out her identity card.
Indeed, she did just that.
“Officer, I’m from the Deng Family,” Deng Yunran was saying. “Just now, it was her who made the reckless call to the police. I didn’t steal—” But before Deng Yunran could finish, Captain Zhao had already bypassed her and approached Qiao Jing.
“Miss Qiao, are you alright? Are you injured?”
Qiao Jing was a pillar of the state, and her safety was of the utmost importance.
What’s happening?! Deng Yunran’s eyes widened as she watched the scene unfold.
“I’m fine.” Qiao Jing looked towards Deng Yunran, her eyes narrowing slightly. “Just now, it was this person who tried to snatch my belongings and threatened me, and said they would harm my family and friends.”
Upon hearing these words, Captain Zhao was incensed.
Although he was far less accomplished in contributions and achievements than Qiao Jing, he was also someone who devoted his life to the country and its people, only to end up facing threats against his own family.
He couldn’t tolerate this!
“Both of you, cuff her hands and take her away.”
Deng Yunran, frightened, retreated backwards, her legs trembling furiously.
“No, don’t, I’m Miss Deng of the Deng Family, my dad is the chairman of Laiyi Culture. You can’t, can’t arrest me, ahh—”
With the handcuffs on, Deng Yunran was forcefully dragged onto the police car.
Deng Yunran never thought she would one day fall to this outcome; as she cried, she cursed Qiao Jing in her heart.
It wasn’t long before Deng Chi, the chairman of Laiyi Culture, received a call from the police station, and he flew into a rage immediately.
Soon after, Deng Chi rushed to the police station and saw Deng Yunran being held in temporary detention.
“Dad! Dad! You’re finally here! Please get me out of here, this place is too terrifying, I don’t want to stay here for another minute, another second. Boo-hoo-hoo—” As soon as Deng Yunran saw Deng Chi, she burst into tears.
Deng Chi, who usually doted on his precious daughter and couldn’t bear to see her shed a single tear, was desperate at the sight of Deng Yunran’s pain to rush in and take his daughter away.
“Captain Zhao, I’m willing to pay money. How about—”
“Mr. Deng, I’m sorry, but this issue cannot be resolved with money.” Captain Zhao said sternly as he looked at Deng Chi.
If Deng Yunran had offended someone else, it might have been manageable, but the fact that she had provoked Qiao Jing and used threats and intimidation against her family and friends meant the gravity of the issue was far more severe.
“What do you mean? Could it be my daughter has offended some high-ranking official?” Since Deng Chi was the chairman of a large company and had experienced all kinds of storms, he quickly surmised that there was more to the situation after hearing Captain Zhao’s words.
“I apologize, Mr. Deng, but I can’t disclose the identity of the other party,” Captain Zhao replied.
“Ah! Now I remember!” Deng Yunran suddenly shouted. “Dad, I remember now! I thought that woman looked a bit familiar. I saw her at the Zhan Family wedding a while back. She’s the wife President Zhan married from the countryside, that woman of the ‘100-day agreement’!”
So it was her.
Deng Chi’s expression darkened. A mere country bumpkin dared to meddle with his beloved daughter.
The daughter-in-law of the Zhan Family, is it?
Very well, he wouldn’t even need to take action himself.

Qiao Jing took a round before returning home, only to see that Su Manhan, Zhan Nanqing, and Zhan Yao were all there.
Why were they all here?
“Mom, dad, what’s going on? Why did we have to wait for her to come back before discussing it?” Zhan Qipei asked, puzzled.
