As the last military truck passed through, Wu Lian commanded, "Close the gate!"

The soldiers quickly closed the gate, killing the remaining deformed monsters that managed to get past the gate.

As the gate slammed shut behind them, Yao Ran turned her attention to Long Yu and checked him over with concern.

"Are you alright?" She asked as she checked his pulse.

Long Yu clasped her hands and reassured her, "I'm fine. I just need some rest."

Relieved to see his complexion improving, she said in a heavy tone, "You shouldn't take such risks."

Looking at her concern, Long Yu wiped some black, sticky blood from her face with his fingers and said, "The situation was dangerous-I had no choice."

Though Yao Ran understood his reasoning, she couldn't help feeling uneasy. Overusing his energy could have dire consequences for his body and life span.

Seeing her furrowed brow, Long Yu leaned against her shoulder and said coquettishly, "Ran Ran, I'm tired."

Looking at his weak appearance, Yao Ran sighed, patted his back, and said, "Once we find a place to settle, I will prepare something delicious for you while you get some rest."

Hearing this, Long Yu knew she wasn't angry anymore and said in a good mood, "Mhm. I know you love me the most."

"....." Shi Xuan, sitting inside the car, was speechless as he overheard their conversation.

While Yao Ran and Long Yu were resting on the car's roof, Li Tianyu and the soldiers came out of the other military vehicles.

Seeing Shi Xuan stepping out of the car, Li Tianyu approached him and asked, "Brother Shi, how are you guys doing? Is anyone injured?"

Shi Xuan glanced briefly at his captain, who was acting coquettishly, before turning back to Li Tianyu. He shook his head and replied, "We are fine. Captain and Yao Ran just need a little rest to recover."

Hearing this, Li Tianyu breathed a sigh of relief. Smiling, he said, "Thank you for clearing the way for us. Otherwise, we might still be stuck outside the gate."

As he spoke, Wu Lian's voice came from behind, "Captain Li, you have finally come back." Shi Xuan and Li Tianyu turned around and saw Wu Lian approaching.

Li Tianyu nodded in acknowledgment and said, "Captain Wu, thank you for your assistance just now."

Wu Lian smiled and replied, "Compared to everything Captain Li has done for the base, our efforts were nothing."

His gaze then shifted to Long Yu and Yao Ran. Seeing the two chatting on the car's roof, Wu Lian greeted them, "Captain Long, Miss Yao, long time no see."

Yao Ran turned to him with a smile and said, "Captain Wu, how have you been?"

"I'm doing well," Wu Lian replied before adding, "If Miss Yao doesn't have a place to stay, we'd be happy to prepare accommodations for you."

Before Yao Ran could respond, Li Tianyu interjected, "There is no need to trouble Captain Wu. Miss Yao, Captain Long, and Brother Shi are guests of the Second Army. We will handle their accommodations."

Wu Lian's smile faded slightly as he countered, "Captain Li, you might not be aware, but Miss Yao is our Commander Xu's niece. Naturally, she will stay with the First Army."

Sensing the tension between the two, Yao Ran quickly intervened. "Captain Wu, I remember Uncle Xu still owes me a house here. I will stay there during my visit this time."

Wu Lian's expression changed when he heard this, and a polite smile returned to his face. "No problem. I will inform Commander Xu right away and prepare the house for you."

With Yao Ran's decision made, Li Tianyu remained silent, though his displeasure was evident. After a moment of thought, Yao Ran climbed down from the car's roof and approached Li Tianyu. "Captain Li, could we talk for a moment?" she asked.

Li Tianyu nodded, and they stepped aside for a private conversation.

Once he made sure that nobody could hear them, Li Tianyu asked, "Miss Yao, what do you want to discuss with me?"

Glancing briefly at Wu Lian, Yao Ran replied, "Captain Li, I declined your invitation because of Commander Du. I can't accept your invitation to stay with the Second Army until I'm sure he means no harm."

Li Tianyu's expression darkened slightly when he remembered what she told him before. After a moment of silence, he asked, "Miss Yao, you think Commander Du is still spying on me?"

Yao Ran nodded, "Yes. I noticed some people watching us closely since we arrived. I suspect they are from your Second Army."

Li Tianyu frowned, deep in thought. After a brief pause, he said, "I understand."

Yao Ran smiled politely and said, "Captain Li, I hope you will consider my invitation to join our team."

Li Tianyu studied her for a moment before replying, "I will give you an answer after investigating these individuals and their relationship with Commander Du."

Satisfied with his answer, Yao Ran said, "Then I will await your good news."

When she walked back to the others, she said, "Captain Wu, we will be in your care for now."

Li Tianyu rejoined them and said to Long Yu, "Captain Long, I will head back to the barracks. If you need anything, you can find me there."

Long Yu nodded, "Alright."

With that, Li Tianyu turned to his soldiers and said, "Let's head back to the barracks."

As the Second Army soldiers departed, Long Yu leaned closer to Yao Ran and whispered, "Ran Ran, what did you discuss with Li Tianyu?"

Yao Ran lowered her voice and replied, "I will tell you when we are alone."

Understanding her caution, Long Yu nodded.
