Chapter 64 - The Truth
Chapter 64: The Truth
Translator: Sissy That Walk
The emperor turned a blind eye to it when Murong Yun was poisoned, he didn’t even send for any imperial physician to treat Murong Yun.
It was all because when Murong Yun was born, some fortune teller told the emperor one day Murong Yun’s great merits would make the emperor feel uneasy.
The emperor meant to strangle Murong Yun after he heard what the fortune tell said, for Murong Yun had never behaved like a baby, and his eye… his eyes were so unfathomable since he was born.
No way those eyes belonged to a baby!
The emperor would have had strangled Murong Yun if not for the Consort.
As time went by, Murong Yun stood out more and more, he was able to talk when he was six months old, he was able to walk when he was eight months, he was able to read books when he was one year old, he was into books on the art of war when he was two years old, he started to learn martial arts when he was three years old… …
Not long after that, Murong Yun was poisoned… …
The emperor sat in his chair, fidgeting, once again he had met Murong Yun’s black eyes. It brought the emperor back to the night when Murong Yun was born and he put his hands on Murong Yun’s neck, with that the emperor shuddered and came to himself.
“The Crown Prince is here with solid evidence, I’d like to hear your explanation.” demanded the emperor.
Eunuch Cao handed the name list to Murong Yun in humble reverence.
Murong Yun didn’t bother to raise his hands and take the name list, he simply raised his eyelids and said, “Do I have to go through all these trouble if I’m really up to something, Your Majesty?”
Hearing that, Eunuch Cao’s knees softened and he knelt down in fear, the name list in his hands fell on the ground.
‘What did Prince Eighth just say?’
‘Do I have to go through all these trouble if I’m really up to something, Your Majesty?’
‘Is he implying that if he really covets the throne, he doesn’t need to go through the trouble to even plan ahead, it would be as easy as taking something out of his pocket?’
‘However, it also implies he is wronged, for he indeed doesn’t have to indulge in petty, mean actions like sending spies.’
The emperor didn’t appreciate the way Murong Yun talked to him, “Murong Yun!”
What Murong Yun just said came across as he was threatening the emperor, no emperor liked to be threatened.
Even Mu Chaoyang was shaking in his boots, he had not expected Murong Yun would talk to the emperor like this, but he guessed the more disrespectful Murong Yun behaved, the better his plan would work out. He liked it when Murong Yun worked for his own destruction.
“Brother Eighth, watch your mouth! What you just said was outrageously disrespectful! You have killed my assassins, are you going to kill me the next? But don’t worry, I will protect my father His Majesty before you want to do anything against him!” Mu Chaoyang retorted Murong Yun loudly as if he was aflame with indignation.
People would feel touched hearing that, what a filial son!
But what he was really thinking was he would like to see Murong Yun make a move against the emperor, for he couldn’t wait to succeed to the throne. He had been the Crown Prince for twenty years now, he couldn’t wait to become the emperor.
He hadn’t married anyone yet because he was still deciding which noble family he should ally himself with, he was so desperate to succeed to the throne.
Of course he wouldn’t dare to tell anyone except his mother what he was really thinking, he knew what he had in mind would make himself die for a hundred times.
He knew as long as he could get rid of Murong Yun, he was be one step closer to the throne! His mother would also make sure the other princes would scrupulously abide by their duty and never transgress the bounds.
Once he could get Murong Yun out of the picture, his mother naturally could take down the Consort and Murong Xue, he was desperate to taste the success.
“Father, it’s not time to show mercy to Murong Yun! Please uphold justice!” Mu Chaoyang kowtowed to the emperor and thumped his head on the ground loudly.
The emperor was in towering rage, “What an unworthy rascal! Do you really think there’s nothing I can do?”
“Can I talk now?” said Murong Yun calmly, forming a drastic contrast to Mu Chaoyang, then he continued, “Your Majesty, I have some name list that I’d like to show you as well. It records the names of the spies, their background and their activities, it’s much more detailed than the one in Eunuch Cao’s hand.”
“What do you mean?” the emperor and Mu Chaoyang asked in unison.
Mu Chaoyang panicked for a second, then he collected himself, he was sure the name list in Murong Yun’s hand had nothing to do with him, he had been very careful with the documents.
Murong Yun produced a pile of paper from him sleeve.
“Eunuch Cao, let me see!” demanded the emperor.
“Yes, Your Majesty.”
“Brother Eighth… what is that?” Mu Chaoyang shook his head, he kept telling himself no way could Murong Yun find his document, he had already destroy any incriminating evidence that might implicate him.
Unless… unless Murong Yun found the document that was hidden in his study!
“I think you know it the best what it is.” replied Murong Yun, there was no tinge of emotion in his tone.
“You!” Mu Chaoyang panicked, he felt like there were ominous dark clouds gathering overhead, but he had to tried to save himself, “Your Majesty, I can explain!”
However, a tea cup thrown on the ground was the emperor’s reply.
The document recorded how many spies Mu Chaoyang had sent to Murong Yun, what their task was respectively, how frequent they report to him… …
The table had turned.
“How great! My good son you are! The villain brought suit against his victims! How can you explain this? I’m all ears!” the emperor fumed.
Mu Chaoyang was speechless, sweat beads were oozing from his forehead, he didn’t know what he should do.
He kept thumping his head on the ground and repeating the same thing, “I’m wronged, this is a trap, Your Majesty! Brother Eighth is sowing discord between you and me, please trust me! No way would I involve into dirty deals like this!”
The emperor didn’t buy a word of that.
The emperor threw the document on Mu Chaoyang, Mu Chaoyang felt he was heavily hit, he knew the emperor must have been so furious that he had even used Internal Chi when he threw away the document.
Murong Yun didn’t utter a single word the whole time.
He knew the emperor wouldn’t really punish Mu Chaoyang, his mother’s family wielded enormous power in court, it was complicated and difficult to deal with them, the emperor couldn’t afford to do that.
“Guards! Take the Crown Prince to jail!”
“Your Majesty…” chimed in Eunuch Cao promptly, but the emperor interrupted him before he could finish, “Do you want to keep the Crown Prince company, Eunuch Cao?”
“Father, I’m wronged! This is all Brother Eighth’s doing!” with that Mu Chaoyang were dragged away.
