Chapter 43 Demon and a Butterfly's flutter.
43 Demon and a Butterfly's flutter.
He asked with a calm tone, "What is your name?"
Li Ming frowned with irritation. But no matter how irritated he was, he wasn't allowed to just break the law. He was here due to boredom and shame, he didn't want to get punished for something dumb he might end up doing.
And he was a cultured person. Names must be given if asked.
"Li Ming of the Starlight Clan. Who are you?" Most people won't be bold enough to speak back to gate guards. He wasn't a gate guard but he seemed like one…right?
Even the Evolution Stage cultivator on the side didn't mind him after all.
"Han Li of the Starlight Clan," Han Li replied. Unbothered by such measly status.
Li Ming squinted at the merchants around who might have heard his yells earlier and thought: 'Dammit, you should have looked like one of us if you came from one of the three great clans.'
Now his words would have made him appear like a lesser. Han Li's eyes were red, unlike the signature night black of most Starlights. So, he couldn't recognize him.
It was not anything like the other two clans either. But he had indeed heard of an Han Li around who was supposedly a great cook. That guy was supposed to be his wedding cook too.
"Well, if you are one of the three great clan's member. You should be considered differently." The young man nodded and stood to the side with a look that said he expected this development.
Han Li looked at him with a side-eye. By now, he could guess why Li Ming was here instead of being at the Awakening Ceremony's venue.
No matter what, he was someone who had his marriage canceled and many people would look at him mockingly. He must have wanted to avoid scrutiny for a while and must have paid the Evolution Stage guard here to let him spend time here.
He could vent his frustrations and appear to be helping out the clan by taking on duty instead of being a coward who hides.
But that didn't happen in the first two timelines, which made Shan Shan who entered inside have a different circumstance. Unlike the calm and unspeaking guard, Li Ming was an irritable guy who at least acted like he was working. And that made Shan Shan much more nervous than he was before.
After entering the clan grounds, he should have been extremely nervous and immediately wrote down the blackmail letter. That letter indeed felt like someone who is in a rush wrote it too.
Having concluded these details, Han Li understood why this timeline already started having differences. 'At this point, even a butterfly flapping its wings might affect future events,' Han Li thought: 'I have to be a bit more cautious about my future plans.'
He lost interest in the irritated brat and moved out of the gateway without any further thought. And once out, he once more smiled that casual smile.
Among the small number of people outside, on a side, an old, wan, and yellow-faced elder was looking at the gateway with an expectant look. Seeing Han Li, his eyes shined in relief and he immediately came walking over.
Near enough, he muttered to Han Li, "Follow me."
Han Li didn't even bother to act nervous and followed.
Shan Shan looked around as he walked and soon, some distance away from the city walls, they walked past the clearing and entered a dark forest that was filled with shadows.
Han Li looked up in search of the Raven Clan cultivator. He didn't see the man but the blocked light of the cloud-shrouded sun that could barely pass the foliage made the area quite dark.
"Did you bring the book?" Shan Shan asked with an intimidating tone.
Han Li ignored him and searched for the Raven clan cultivator. From ancient times to now, there was no way for a cultivator to head-on fight against a higher-stage cultivator.
No matter what kind of a talent a cultivator had, a higher Stage cultivator was just a different breed. No matter what advantages a low-level Cultivator may have over the higher Stage Cultivator, it was basically impossible to fight a higher Stage head-on.
It was considered extremely great if someone could even endure one attack from a Stage higher.
So, when dealing with people like that, you should always have your focus on them.
Insignificant and harmless flies like Shan Shan didn't matter. Had his Spark been covert, he would have used it. But it was too bright and would stand out.
So he just used his enhanced senses in search of the man.

The bushes rustled from his back and a hand gently rested on his shoulders. "Had you not heard what he asked? Where is the book?"
Han Li's hands tightened for a second and without any sudden movement, he walked forward calmly and turned back to look at the man who had killed him once.
He walked slowly since a quick move might trigger a warrior's instinct to attack immediately.
Kevin looked at him with squinted eyes. Why was this person so calm?
He had expected a pathetic man out for love and stupid due to his emotions. This was out of his expectations.
But that only made him more curious. He had no reason to worry when it came to weak beings below the Evolution Stage. Below that Stage, everyone might as well be ants to him.
Han Li on the other hand examined him. Flowing black hair that was actually a flock of raven feathers and eyes that showed an intense chaotic gleam. And a face that just screamed calm insanity.
More than anything else, a black, ancient, and rusty sword lay on his back with a lusterless shine.
Han Li then looked back at his face, he couldn't help but chuckle. "It's been quite a while since I last saw one right to the face like you."
"Oh? What?" Kevin asked curiously with a tilted head.
"A Demon," he said, "It's been a while since I saw another one."
