Chapter 1240 Talking to an Old Friend
Chapter 1240 Talking to an Old Friend
Ring! Ring!
"Hmm? Who would be calling me at this time?"
Reading a news article on a high-end laptop, a young man with fiery red hair slightly frowned in response to his phone ringing.
However, once he found out who was calling him, the frown on his face was immediately replaced with a look of slight surprise.
"Valyr?" muttered the young man to himself as he scratched the back of his head in slight confusion. "I'm pretty sure he told us last night that he'd be grinding Greater Beyond for the whole day today. What made him stop all of a sudden?"
"Eh. I'll find that out once he tells me." Letting his phone ring for a bit more, the young man eventually accepted the call, fixing his pair of glasses as a familiar face appeared on the screen.
"Thomas! Long time no see."
"What do you mean long time no see?" said Thomas with fake anger. "We just met up last week for drinks, no?"
"Did we?" Valyr laughed in response, knowing that the young man wasn't actually mad at him. "Anyways, are you free to spare a bit of your time for me?"
"I could." Thomas nodded, his expression becoming slightly serious at his words. "What's up? You don't usually take the initiative to contact me or the others."
"Well…" Looking back at the young man in contemplation, Valyr eventually found the right words to say as he told him, "I suppose it'd be better if I talked about it over some snacks."
"Your treat?" asked Thomas, causing Valyr to chuckle in response.
"As long as we get the same thing at that place, then sure. My treat," he replied, which immediately made Thomas grin with excitement.
"Alright then. I'll head there right now," said the young man soon after, to which Valyr nodded. "But seriously. What do you want to talk about with me? Surely you can tell me even a little bit about it over the phone, no?"
"Let's just say it has something to do with Greater Beyond," answered Valyr in response, only to hang up after leaving him another message. "Message me if you're already there, okay?" n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Beep.
"…" Just as the young man still had questions to ask, Thomas' expression went blank as he heard the call end all of a sudden.
Then, after closing his eyes for a bit, he let out a faint sigh as he murmured, "Even though I already told him not to hang up before I say so, that habit of his still hasn't changed one bit."
"In any case, why does he want to talk about Greater Beyond? Does it have something to do with why he called me out of nowhere?"
Feeling curious as to what the answer was, Thomas eventually shut his laptop down before making his way out of his apartment.
"Well, I'll find out once I get there."
…
"…I really can't get enough of these burgers."
Taking a bite out of a freshly-cooked hamburger, Valyr had a satisfied smile on his face as he loitered by the side of a local burger joint.
"All the more reason to grind more money in the game, really," muttered the young man to himself after taking another bite, only to close his eyes soon after as he savored his taste.
Coincidentally, just as he opened his eyes to take another bite, a familiar face appeared in front of him all of a sudden.
"Gah!" Valyr quickly moved back in surprise, only to glare at the young man soon after. "You almost made me drop my burger!"
"Sorry, sorry." Thomas could only laugh in response, prompting Valyr to take another bite of the burger he was eating.
"So, why did you call me to come here?"
"I told you already, it has something to do with Greater Beyond," replied Valyr, eventually finishing his burger in just a few more bites. "But first…"
"Burger?"
…
"…These burgers really don't get old."
"Even more so when you get them for free," added Thomas as he bit into his burger, only to chuckle soon after.
"Of course, you'll be the one treating me next time," said Valyr in response, laughing before biting down into his second burger.
At this point, the two of them found a spot nearby to sit down and talk, allowing them to continue the conversation where their phone call left off.
"So, about Greater Beyond?" asked Thomas, looking at Valyr with a serious expression. "What does that have to do with us meeting up?"
"I wanted to ask you if you wanted to play with me," replied Valyr with a calm expression of his own. "I'm sure you already know, but Greater Beyond is currently in maintenance. I would probably still be playing if not for that."
"I've heard." Thomas nodded, recalling the news articles he was browsing through earlier. "Anyways, you really called me out here just to ask me if I wanted to play Greater Beyond with you? You do know I have work later today, right?"
"I know." Valyr nodded. "But I'm not telling you to ditch your work or anything like that. I just wanted to know if you could play with me after your shift is over."
"You already bought it, right?"
"Of course, I did. How could I not?" replied Thomas. "It's the most trending VRMMO right now, after all."
"In any case, why me?" he asked as he looked at Valyr with slight curiosity. "Did you not reach out to Meria or Lucques before this?"
"Already did. Didn't pick up." Valyr looked back at Thomas with a wry smile. "Even asked Nathan if he could play with me, but he said he was busy for the entire day."
"I see." Hearing that, Thomas could only nod. "So, why do you want me to play Greater Beyond with you? You do know that I've yet to make an account in the game, right?"
"I'm not that stupid." Valyr let out a bit of laughter as he nodded. "But there is a reason why I need your help. After all, it only works when you're in a party of two."
"And that would be?" Thomas raised his eyebrow in curiosity.
"A way to earn money," replied the young man with a slight grin.
"Lots of money, if I might add."
