Chapter 1158 Challenging the Heavens (1)

1158  Challenging the Heavens (1)

Whoosh!

With a massive threat in the form of a meteor threatening to crash onto her head at any moment, Valyr's opponent did not hesitate to dispel the magic circle she was creating, instead making use of the runes she'd already formed to hastily whip up a defensive spell.

Bang!

However, even though she'd infused almost all of her mana into it to make sure it could withstand against the initial force of the attack, the momentum of the meteor was more than enough to render her defense useless.

With that, she hastily scrounged up all of the remaining mana in her body to cast a movement spell.

Swoosh!

Making sure that her body would not crumple under the might of the meteor, the woman teleported a fair distance away from where she initially stood, immediately letting out a wide sigh of relief after that.

Though, when she noticed that the young man that conjured the meteor in the first place was standing even farther away from the meteor than she did, it was there she knew…

She fucked up.

Boom!

Although the aftereffects of the meteor crashing on the ground was not as exaggerated as the large meteor Valyr threw down back at the battlefield, the force behind the meteor was still more than enough to send the earth around it flying.

Unfortunately, the earth the meteor covered also included the one Valyr's opponent was standing on.

"I surrender!" With almost all her options at both defense and escape unusable due to her current state, the woman did not hesitate to voice out her forfeit to Scho'doxa, her complexion paling as the flying earth got closer to her.

With that, the arbiter did not hesitate to make a move in response, conjuring a sturdy barrier around the woman before the earth could even hit her.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Closing her eyes in slight fear that her surrender might have been too late, the woman was instead greeted by the sight of the earth stopping just a meter or so away from her the moment she opened her eyes.

At that moment, she let out yet another wide sigh of relief before turning to look at the young man she fought, noting him in her mind as a person she shouldn't mess with.

Once the aftereffects of Valyr's meteor eventually died down, the young man made his way to where the woman was, giving her an apology that he might have gone a bit too overboard with his attack.

In response, the woman told him that it was fine, seeing as all of them were risking their lives just to gain greater individual rewards.

After exchanging information with one another in the off chance the two would meet up back in Veldanyr, Scho'doxa soon brought the woman away from the arena with a snap of his fingers.

Whoosh!

Then, after making sure that Valyr's opponent just now was returned safe and sound to her own arena, the man let out a sigh before tossing a bottle containing shards towards Valyr.

"Here you go, your reward for defeating the winner of the Peak Rank 5 tournament," said the man, prompting Valyr to toss one of the two bottles he got back to him. "With that, you now have a full set of what's pretty much the best version of the final concoction you could get from this tournament."

"Well, almost the best version," clarified Valyr, showing Scho'doxa the other bottle of shards that had yet to be replaced by the challenge. "You did say the effects of the duplicate items would stack, after all."

"Right… I did say that." Slightly frowning at Valyr's words, the man soon recalled what he said to him earlier, prompting him to nod in response.

Though, after that, he clarified to the young man that when he said that the effects of the duplicates would stack additively, he meant so in a roundabout way.

Of course, this made the young man frown back.

Fortunately, both sides were able to smooth things out with a bit of explanation.

"So, basically, what you're saying is that I'd be able to consume two of the final concoctions."

"You could consume as many of the concoctions as you want, really." Scho'doxa nodded in agreement. "However, the condition is that the concoctions all need to be of a similar rank." "Say you made two final concoctions, but one is made with Heavenly Potential items, while the other is made with Greater Potential items."

"The effects of the concoction with Heavenly Potential items would overwrite the effects of the concoction with Greater Potential items, thus turning your efforts to obtain another set for naught."

"And I assume you'd help me out with that?" asked Valyr back with a raised eyebrow, showing Scho'doxa the other bottle of shards once more.

"If you decide to continue with the challenge." Scho'doxa nodded. "Aside from swapping your other bottle of shards to its Heavenly Potential version if you beat your next opponent, I'll give you the items to make another set of the stuff if you beat the ones that come after that." n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om

"Of course, I'd only give you the last two items if you were to beat the winner of the Peak Rank 6 tournament," continued the man, briefly recalling how the young man in front of him defeated a peak Rank 6 puppet in one hit.

"Sounds fine with me," said Valyr as he nodded, returning the bottles he brought out back into his spatial bracelet. "The only question is whether or not you'd stop me from using the arquebus on my opponents this time around."

As those words left his mouth, the young man was under the impression that Scho'doxa would bar him from using the arquebus. After all, if he were to go out, then there was a high chance he'd kill his opponent before they could even react.

With that in mind, Valyr persuaded the man as much as possible, talking about the various types of advantages Myth-level beings had compared to them who hadn't transcended the peak of mortality yet.

Legacies, Concepts, Armaments, Domains… all of those abilities were more than enough for a Myth's strength to undergo rapid improvement that it wasn't impossible for them to fight hundreds of peak Rank 5 class holders without problems.

In fact, it wouldn't even be difficult for them to fight against a few Legends at once, even those that had already formed their Legacies before their ascension.

However, what he didn't realize before he even began his explanation was that…

Scho'doxa did not stop him from using the arquebus at all.

"Honestly, I was wondering when you'd bring out your arquebus during your fights." Stopping the young man from continuing his explanation any further, the man looked at him as he softly chuckled. "After all, the arquebus is an extension of your might."

"It may be incredibly powerful considering the current state of your planet… but it's still ultimately a weapon."

"Sure, if it was a consumable item or an item that instantly turns the fight to your favor, then I would've stopped you from using it in the first place. This is a tournament, after all."

"But the arquebus is a weapon, just like the staff you used against your opponent just now," said Scho'doxa, pointing at the magic staff Valyr was holding. "Was your staff so strong to the point I'd say it upset the balance of the fight just now? I'd say yes."

"Not all staffs have such skills like yours do, after all."

"However… did I stop you from using it?"

"…No." At those words, Valyr went silent for a bit as his gaze swapped between his staff and Scho'doxa for a while.

Then, seemingly coming to a conclusion in his mind, the young man let out a soft sigh as he looked back at the man with a wry smile. "I could've finished the fights sooner, didn't I?"

Then, seemingly coming to a conclusion in his mind, the young man let out a soft sigh as he looked back at the man with a wry smile. "I could've finished the fights sooner, didn't I?"

"Would've even helped make sure your opponent didn't die from your attacks," replied Scho'doxa as he let out a peal of laughter. "You may have all accepted the challenge, but the placement portion of the tournament is now over."

"There's no need for more unnecessary casualties. I'm just giving all of you the opportunity to obtain more rewards for yourselves."

"Speaking of which… I forgot to mention this after you became the victor of the tournament." Slightly frowning as a thought came to mind, Scho'doxa soon looked back at Valyr with a slight grin.

"Of course, I'm talking about the opportunity to visit the extraterrestrial planet named Earth."

Feeling as if a bomb just went off in his mind, Valyr blankly stared at the man in response to those words.

Thankfully, it did not take too long for the young man to regain his bearings, immediately looking at Scho'doxa with excitement all over his face as he thanked the man for the opportunity.

With a chuckle, the man responded back that he'd earned the opportunity himself, only to then ask Valyr after that if he still wanted to proceed with the challenge.

With everything cleared up, it went without saying that the young man agreed, prompting Scho'doxa to disappear for a bit before bringing back an orc that gave off an intimidating presence.

Fortunately, as he'd already fought against multiple Myth-level beings in the past, Valyr was more than used to the aura they let out, immediately counteracting against the presence by flaring out his aura in return.

Swoosh!

With the orc raising his eyebrow at him in slight interest, the two soon got to their places as Scho'doxa stood at the center of the arena.

"Are you the two of you ready?" Glancing at both Valyr and the Myth-level orc, Scho'doxa faintly nodded back once the two gave him nods of approval.

After that, the man let the two take center stage.

"Fight!"
