Lord of the Karmic Fate

Chapter 66 Only One Can Stand! (2)

The concept of killing without even lifting a single finger surprised Raven greatly even though he had already thought about it previously. After all, although he had already witnessed what happened with Roland, it was still hard to believe that an invisible power capable of killing people without any prior warning really existed.

It was just like that overpowered ability he once read about when he was still a child, a young man capable of shredding people into pieces just with a single glance!

Just a single glance, without any warning or feeling of dread, and you were gone for good!

"No, that is just real bullshit... There is no way that the statue possesses such an ability or else this Realm Game should have been impossible to complete right from the start! We just seem to have missed something." Raven mumbled in a low voice, obviously trying to find a clue that could help them in their current situation.

"I have to agree with you." Felix beside Raven nodded, and while he watched indifferently as people started to move slowly toward the statue he continued;

"First of all, if that thing really can kill his enemies without moving, why didn't he send us to our demise already? The answer to that is really simple. It is because..."

"Because he can only use his ability in a restricted area," Raven answered without waiting for Felix to finish his sentence.

"Correct." Felix nodded softly, "Now then, up to the second question, how did he kill? At first, anyone would assume it possesses a powerful ability that allowed him to cut those close to him with a glance, but that is not the case. I think it is way simpler than that, we just didn't happen to pay close attention.

"Maybe an ability to create wind blades? That would explain why we didn't see anything before and after he attacked." Raven asked.

"No, if it would have been wind blades, we at least should have felt the change in the air. It was something else."

While Raven and Felix tried to find answers, a young woman with a long whip in hand finally reached the foot of the statue and after thinking for a while she swung it at the crown.

The black whip moved with almost lightning speed and it seemed to reach the crown without problem when suddenly the eyes of the statue lit up once again and the woman, together with her whip, got sliced apart in a blink!

Just like before, everything happened so fast that no one was able to see how the young woman had been just killed!

Or else, no one except Raven, who at his moment had his eyes wide open, excitement and also fear flickering within!

"A clone...? No, that was more like a shadow, but one which had a physical body!"

Felix, upon hearing Raven's words frowned with doubt and worry. It seemed he was trying to figure out a way to beat the shadow, or at least avoid it while also taking the crown from the statue's head.

"Let's stay behind and keep watching a little more. Maybe we can notice something else also." Felix suggested to which Raven nodded.

Time passed in silence, and while it was true that everybody was scared to approach the statue after the first two death, human greed took over fear rather quickly and it didn't take long before people started to move once again.

However, instead of trying to acquire the crown alone, people teamed up with each other, hoping that way they will be able to get their hands on the crown.

And while it was true that they achieved greater results than others alone, at the end, when it came to the final push to acquire the crown, they all failed and were killed on the spot.

Therefore, it was not a huge surprise to see how the majority of the people on the summit lose hope of ever acquiring the crown while some seemed hesitant about whether they should still try their luck or not.

As for Raven and Felix, their expression held great excitement, the previous fear no longer visible at all!

"So that's how it is!" Felix exclaimed out loud after a few seconds and quickly explained despite knowing Raven beside him had also figured out the secret behind the statue's power.

"That shadow is a projection of the statue, and it attacks those whoever the statue looks at. However, although it is fast, if you can avoid the first attack you will have a bigger chance to safely predict the rest!"

"Yeah. Moreover, it seems the shadow will only attack those who the statue looked at and will only change its target if it has to go further away from the statue than 50 meters or it succeeded in killing its target," Raven added with a nod.

"Knowing all this, we should stay outside his line of sight and approach it from behind, right?" Raven asked after a small while, to which, surprisingly, Felix shook his head.

"No, that's just too risky to do."

"Huh? Why? We finally understood the statue's ability and also know how to counter it." Raven frowned, puzzled, but soon realization hit him, and let out a soft gasp.

"Oh... We still don't know whether the statue can move or not."

"Exactly." Felix nodded, and as he gazed at the pile of corpses before the feet of the statue, he said, "So far, everyone tried to approach and grab the crown from the front. Even those who attempted to steal it from the side were still in the statue's line of sight, so we have no clue at all whether it can turn around or not, perhaps even move also!"

"You are right. It's just way too risky." Raven sighed, admitting that he had almost rushed things and sent himself right into demise.

"Then what should we do? Just looking at the faces around us is obvious to know no one has the guts to try their luck."

"I know, and exactly for that reason..." saying those words, Felix lowered his body and once he was on the ground, sitting with a relaxed expression, he said, "We will wait."
