Chapter 508: 508: Falling Out _1
Chapter 508: Chapter 508: Falling Out _1
Tristan Caldwell’s heart turned ice-cold the moment he saw Beckett Carmichael’s change of attitude.
Having worked under Beckett Carmichael for so long, he was very clear about his own boss’s personality.
The always unyielding and haughty Beckett Carmichael, when did he ever show such respect to others?
“General Caldwell, what’s the situation?”
Stacy Cook wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and asked in a trembling voice, “Could there be a mistake? This youngster before us, is the Radcliffe Family’s son-in-law who’s been doing laundry and cooking at home, never even stepping out the door for three years. How could he possibly know your boss?”
Although Stacy had only returned to Gonzalez City not long ago, because of Bran Cook’s reason, he had used his subordinates to thoroughly investigate Julius Reed.
They even monitored every place Julius Reed visited and the people he contacted daily.
After several days of tracking, no valuable intelligence was found.
Julius Reed was just as Bran Cook described him: idling his days away, doing nothing of significance.
No background and no connections whatsoever.
Just a complete bumpkin.
But Stacy Cook did not believe that such a bumpkin could cause trouble and offend people and still be alive to this day.
Even more bizarre, how did a live-in son-in-law who was cooped up at home for three years manage to have such a strong backer?
The bodyguard he brought back was a formidable presence, capable of fighting more than a dozen men single-handedly.
Yet in front of Julius Reed, they were like elementary school students, getting beaten black and blue.
But even so, all indications pointed to Julius Reed truly having a plain background.
So plain that he had no connections at all.
Now, Beckett Carmichael was actually getting angry with his own long-time employee over this useless good-for-nothing Julius Reed?
“Right! CEO Carmichael, could you have mistaken him for someone else? This kid is just a useless wretch; how could he possibly know you?”
Reminded by Stacy Cook, Tristan Caldwell also realized something was awry.
He had followed Beckett Carmichael for so many years, how could he not know his boss had such a friend?
Beckett Carmichael’s connections were all in the capital. How could a small place like Gonzalez City have anyone worth Beckett Carmichael making an acquaintance?
The only explanation was that it was a case of mistaken identity!
“Tristan Caldwell, you really think highly of yourself!”
Hearing this sentence, Beckett Carmichael looked coldly at his subordinate.
“Boss, what’s really going on…”
Questioned like this by Beckett Carmichael, Tristan Caldwell was utterly bewildered.
He had joined Marthew Abernathy Group for many years and was considered a veteran in the company.
On ordinary days, Beckett Carmichael was quite polite to him, treating him more like a friend.
But today, his own boss was acting too out of the ordinary!n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
So abnormal that it was somewhat frightening!
“I…”
“A bet is a bet; drink these two bottles of wine here and now,” Beckett Carmichael said expressionlessly.
His subordinate was actually foolish enough to offend Julius Reed?
Then don’t blame him for sacrificing a pawn to save his chariot.
“Boss, this… if I drink this, it could kill a person!”
Looking at the two opened bottles of ‘water of life’ in front of him, Tristan Caldwell swallowed nervously, his body trembling involuntarily.
Drinking it, even if he didn’t die, would cost him half his life.
“Then what bet did you make with me just now?”
Julius Reed asked with raised eyebrows, “Just now General Caldwell was quite serious when he said it. Could it be that nowadays, a person of your status would go back on your word?”
“Exactly! If the general manager of my Marthew Abernathy Group goes back on his word and it gets out, it would be a scandal for the company! Tristan Caldwell, do you want to tarnish the company’s image?”
Beckett Carmichael chimed in from the side.
Today, no matter what, Tristan Caldwell had to drink these two bottles of wine; otherwise, he couldn’t explain himself to Julius Reed.
Having led the Carmichael family to such heights, would Beckett Carmichael care about losing a general manager?
No hero without a touch of ruthlessness.
“CEO Carmichael, I know I was wrong! Please, for the sake of the decade and more we’ve worked together, give me a way out.”
Tristan Caldwell kneeled right in front of Beckett Carmichael, clutching his thighs and begging for mercy incessantly.
By now, the alcohol’s courage had long been scared out of him, and he was completely panic-stricken.
Wasn’t the plan to deal with a loser?
How did it just so happen that he ran into his own boss?
And this loser, he was a friend of his boss.
“Stacy Cook, you’ve made me suffer!”
With a trembling hand, Tristan Caldwell pointed at Stacy Cook, his body unable to stop shivering.
There were four bottles of the water of life on the table, a terrifying sight.
If he really drank it, he feared neither he nor Stacy Cook would be able to leave alive.
“Drink! You have three minutes!”
Beckett Carmichael glanced at his watch and said indifferently, “Mr. Reed said. You’re a dignified man, I’ll give you a dignified way out. If you don’t want dignity, then I’ll help you to it! Remember! My Carmichael Group will absolutely not harbor liars! Not even one!”
As soon as he finished speaking, Tristan Caldwell collapsed to the ground.
He knew Beckett Carmichael’s character very well, ruthless in his methods, heartless when he turned his back.
If he said today that he must drink two bottles of the water of life, no amount of pleading from Tristan Caldwell would elicit the slightest sympathy.
“This drink is as mild as water, I just drank a bottle and didn’t feel a thing,”
Julius Reed said with a smile from across.
Thousands of years of longevity, the water of life?
What does it matter?
It’s nothing but alcohol.
He had never met a drink the Dragon King dared not imbibe.
“CEO Carmichael. You’re forcing my hand! Since you don’t show any compassion, don’t blame me, Bran Cook, for not showing any respect!”
Already scared witless, Bran Cook tried hard to calm himself down.
No matter what, he had spent a few years in Africa, grappling with life and death every day.
He had faced countless trials and tribulations; how could today’s events count for anything?
“Boss! Someone is threatening us here!”
He suddenly stood up and shouted loudly inside the restaurant.
At his shout, a glimmer of light flashed in Tristan Caldwell’s eyes.
Right!
This place was the Northern Restaurant!
Its owner was American, and he had quite the reputation on the mainland.
If someone caused trouble at the Northern Restaurant, at the lightest they’d be kicked out, at the worst they’d be thrown into Gonzalez City’s docks.
“Tristan Caldwell, you really made a good friend!”
Hearing Bran Cook’s cry for help, Beckett Carmichael’s eyes narrowed, and a killing aura suddenly radiated from him.
“I’m sorry! CEO Carmichael, you were the one who was ruthless and heartless! Don’t blame me, your brother, for being impolite!”
Tristan Caldwell quickly got up from the ground, moved next to Bran Cook, and looked at Beckett Carmichael with a cold laugh, “I haven’t lived enough, I don’t want to die! If you want me dead, I won’t make it easy for you! This is Gonzalez City, and your Eli Yarrow isn’t by your side!”
If Bran Cook hadn’t decided on a do-or-die resistance, Tristan Caldwell wouldn’t have realized Eli Yarrow was not present.
Since Eli Yarrow was absent, Bran Cook could just call people over and easily escape with him.
As for Beckett Carmichael?
The mighty dragon cannot crush the local snake!
Facing Bran Cook’s subordinates, what could Beckett Carmichael alone with a few bodyguards possibly achieve?
“What’s going on here!”
Just at that moment, the owner of the Northern Restaurant came down from upstairs, surrounded by a group of security guards.
These guards were all Americans, each of them muscular and none of them looked easy to deal with.
“Someone is threatening us!”
Bran Cook pointed at Beckett Carmichael, “It’s him, forcing us to drink the water of life inside your restaurant!”
