Chapter 71: I mean this is not much really.
Due to the lack of light, they missed the fact that the woman's body was badly mutilated.
The fingers were broken, nails torn out eyes gouged out and she was cut in many places.
It was good for Robinson that there was no light and he could not see much of the body's condition except for the fact that it was hanged.
If he had, even a knight like him who was used to bloodshed would go pale, as he had never seen such brutal torture inflicted on an innocent person.
He was after all a knight who battled on the frontlines and saw glory and justice in everything.
If on the other hand, a professional torturer saw the condition of the woman, he would scoff and say that it was done by amateurs.
After all, they only did some basic harm like breaking bones and taking off nails and stabbing in various spots.
Where was the fun in that?
They often tortured criminals like that just as a starting warm up.
It was nothing much really.
I mean, no rats were made to dig into her intestine, no spear was pushed into her private part... This was just basic harm really.
[Author's Note : Before you all gonna start scolding me saying, 'how can you think about such brutal things author san?!' please know that these were torture methods that were really used during the medieval times. I only mention two while they used tens of them. Like there are chairs with spikes that people are made to sit on, there are these torture devices that are used to rip off women's breasts... Yeah the medieval times were not the best.
Here's the link to the article where I read about all these torture devices - /amp/world/nasty-torture-methods/
Just search medieval torture in Google. The things you find will make you appreciate the modern times.
I mean there was even a thing called tickle torture!]
Robinson and Lauren looked at each other with helplessness on their faces. They guessed what must have happened.
The robbers killed the woman, looted the house and had already fled away.
After all, there were no movements even though they entered the house.
But there was one thing that confused them both. What was up with this unusual method of killing?
They had seen many forms of murder, but hanging was a new one.
New one as in like thieves hanging people was something that they had never seen or heard off.
They found in highly unusual.
Lauren sighed and whispered, "Let's get out of here. There's nothing we can do about her death. Let us go tell that man about the fact that the woman is dead."
Robinson nodded. But he did not sheath his sword as he found the whole thing usual and felt on the edge.
He still remained completely alert as he turned around and exited the room to be creeped out by what he saw.
The door of the stone house that they had opened previously was closed.
Robinson stared at the door with his eyes widened and whispered, "Lauren, there is something wrong here. Stay ale- Lauren?"
Robinson turned around but did not see his brother who had accompanied him till now.
Robinson swallowed his saliva as he readied his mind to face an attack any second.
If it was an ordinary person who was in the position that Robinson currently was, they would be scared shitless.
That was why experience mattered. Robinson, as an experienced knight, handled the matter much more better and with caution.
Robinson suddenly felt adrenalin surge through his entire body as he sidestepped, successfully dodging a blade that was aimed towards his neck.
Robinson felt his heart beat rapidly and thanked his reflexes.
As he had faced many dangerous and life threatening situations, his body got used to dodging blades and attacks instinctively.
If not for that, the blade that had been slashed towards his neck would have undoubtedly killed him without even giving him a chance to defend himself.
But before Robinson could spot where the person who was wielding the blade was, the blade had already disappeared into the darkness that enshrouded him.
The only reason he even knew that someone attacked him with a blade was because of the sound that a blade made when it was slashed.
[Author's Note : The whoosh sound that a blade makes when its slashed. He's a knight so he's used to hearing that sound every day again and again.]
Robinson felt his palms become sweaty as his eyes darted around him in an attempt to spot an attack before it was too late.
Robinson was not used to fighting in the darkness unlike the twisted brothers who found the darkness as the best cover for their attacks.
They mostly killed their preys during the night too.
Robinson felt his heart in his throat as he could hear it thumping in his ears.
He took a deep breath and calmed himself.
---------------------------
Arnold was slolwy crouching in the darkness, making sure that not one sound was made from him.
It was all a trap that he and his brother had made. After all, his king only wanted these two brothers dead.
For that, they scouted for the perfect location in which they could trap the knights and kill them.
They wanted the job to be over cleanly and without much trouble. They could probably kill the knights in broad daylight outside too with their levels of strength, but it was highly likely that it would bring a whole ton of mess along with it.
