Chapter 33 The Retired Soldier, Karl Bryan Vercede
"You guys should rest for a moment. We will begin the interview in a short while." Arlan said to the applicants. He then gave a signal to Sofia with his eyes.
Seeing the look he was giving, Sofia understood him immediately. She smiled lightly at him before she poured tea for the applicants. After that, she went to get the snacks she prepared for everyone.
"You really saved me a lot of trouble this time, Fredrinn. If you need my help in the future, don't hesitate to tell me." Arlan patted the guy's shoulder. His words made Fredrinn's eyes light up with joy. This was a promise from a successful man who managed to buy the Lake View Villa. His promise was as heavy as gold!
"You're welcome, Mr. Roa." He concealed the excitement in his heart, but he still couldn't stop smiling.
"I'll be in my study upstairs. You can bring them to me one by one." Arlan stared at the applicants while saying this. His gaze stopped at a middle-aged man who looked to be in his mid-thirties. He looked fit with his toned body and straight posture. "Follow me upstairs." He said to the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man was a bit taken aback that he was chosen to be the first one to get interviewed. However, he quickly calmed down as he followed Arlan. He looked around as they walked towards the study and everything he saw made him amazed. 'What a beautiful villa!'
After entering the study, Arlan took a seat behind his desk. He then pointed at the seat in front of him as he said. "You may take your seat."
"Thank you, Mr. Roa!" The middle-aged man was well-mannered. He lightly bowed his head at Arlan before taking his seat.
"Tell me something about yourself." Arlan's calm eyes seemed to be capable of seeing through his secrets, but as someone who had experienced so many ups and downs in life, the middle-aged man managed to compose himself.
"My name is Karl Bryan Vercede. I've been in the army for over ten years, but I decided to retire after almost dying on my last mission. A few months after I retired as a soldier, I worked as a head of security for…"
As Arlan listened to his introduction, he nodded his head inwardly in appreciation. This man has grown tired of living on the edge and decided to blend into society once again. Although Arlan already knows most of these information, it was still better to hear these things from the person themselves.
"… I'd like to become your bodyguard, Mr. Roa! I also know how to drive any vehicle with the exception of airplanes and helicopters. I can be your driver as well." Karl Bryan honestly revealed his desired position.
Arlan wanted to find out more about this guy. Among the twelve people who came with Fredrinn, Karl's information was the most secretive. Some parts of his information were unknown and that was when he was working as a soldier. From this, Arlan concluded that this guy must be someone from the army's special forces. Only the information about those soldiers is classified as top secret.
"Can you fight?" Arlan suddenly asked.
Karl was surprised when he heard this, but he still nodded his head confidently. "Of course! I received professional close combat training during my time in the army. I also trained in Muay Thai and Taekwondo back then." He was one of the best fighters in his squad during his time as a soldier. He was confident in his skills and experience.
Arlan stood up from his seat and walked toward the center of the room. "Show me some of your moves." He beckoned Karl to stand up and fight him.
"This…" Karl Bryan was hesitant when he heard Arlan's words, but when he saw his encouraging look, he relented. "Alright, but you have to be careful, Mr. Roa."
Karl Bryan was a bit shorter than Arlan. He was only six feet tall, but his physique looked stronger with his thick biceps and broad shoulder.
He stood in front of Arlan with a relaxed stance. He didn't want to hurt his future boss so he planned to hold back his fists.
When Arlan saw his sloppy movements, he couldn't help but chuckle. This guy was underestimating him, but it didn't make him angry. "Let's begin! Make your move!"
"Please excuse me, Mr. Roa." Karl muttered before releasing a quick punch toward Arlan's shoulder. He didn't aim for a lethal spot since his punches were deadly.
Arlan smiled when he saw this. He then leaned his body to the right, narrowly evading Karl's punch.
"Huh?" Karl didn't expect Arlan to move so fast when he was dressed in such tight clothes. 'He must have trained his footwork…' He thought to himself after seeing Arlan's quick evasion. He then decided to increase the intensity of his attacks.
Arlan saw the change in Karl's stance. 'You're finally starting to get serious?' He laughed in his heart.
A flurry of punches was shot by Karl, but Arlan managed to block or evade them with ease. After a few more exchanges, Karl no longer held back. Each of his punches carried a deadly power that could knock out a grown man.
Arlan was satisfied by Karl's strength. The guy was a lot stronger than he had expected. He was even better than most soldiers of the special force. "Alright. That's enough." He said after catching Karl's punch with his palm. "Tell the next person to come up here."
Karl Bryan was in disbelief throughout their spar. He didn't even manage to land a blow to Arlan. He was like a slippery eel that was so difficult to catch! "Mr. Roa, are you unsatisfied with my skills?" He couldn't help but ask. Arlan didn't say anything about hiring him so he felt a bit nervous.
Arlan laughed as he shook his head. "You're good. You can start working for me tomorrow."
"Really?" Karl was pleasantly surprised. He heard from Fredrinn that Arlan was a mysterious rich man and he said that working under Arlan would bring unimaginable benefits. He was excited when he thought about this.
Arlan nodded his head. "Of course. You should stay for a moment and wait for the others to finish their interview. They might become your colleagues soon so you might as well get to know them today."
"Yes, boss!" Karl agreed without hesitation.
Arlan raised his eyebrows when he heard Karl calling him boss. 'Tsk. He must have learned it from Sofia…'
"Tell the next person to come here." He waved his hand as he went back to his seat.
