Chapter 104 Rachel Boyle
Getting up to leave, Xavier truly did want to relax more with Eddie and his fiance, but time was of the essence and he didn't have the luxury of sitting around any longer.
"Take down my number, and call me in case of any emergencies or if you need any help. I can get people to run any errands you have, so just focus on taking care of your health and the baby. Eddie will handle everything else," said Xavier to Eddie's fiance with a warm smile.
She had endured a lot, and after speaking to her for so long in the kitchen previously, Xavier couldn't help but pity her and admire her strength.
Eddie's fiance also reminded Xavier of his mother from how she had sacrificed everything for her child and didn't care about herself as long as her child was healthy.
But because she reminded him of his mother, he knew she needed care and people around her, so he wanted to make sure she was always okay, not just for Eddie, but to ease his own heart.
And as Xavier got up to leave, so did Eddie, catching on to the fact that Xavier needed him for something and that it was time to get to work.
-
Accepting Xavier's phone number, Eddie's fiance appreciated the gesture and although had only just met Xavier, she could tell that he had done a lot for Eddie, who rarely ever showed anyone respect.
That's not to say he was disrespectful, he just firmly believed that respect was something that was earnt not granted.
Other than Eddie's older brother, there hadn't been anyone that Eddie admired or allowed to push him around, but now that Xavier came along, she saw the same look in Eddie's eyes that he used to have when he watched his older brother.
And Xavier was also very relaxed and casual with Eddie, almost as if they were brothers, which made her smile and be happy for her fiance who seemed to have found someone to rely on.
However, she couldn't help but be curious about Xavier's age and background, since he had avoided most of her personal questions when they had previously spoken.
But it seemed as though she wasn't going to find out what she was curious about any time soon.
-
"Xavier, be sure to come around often alright?" she said to Xavier as he put his shoes on.
"Yeah, for sure. I live around here anyway. Next time we can go and shop for some clothes for Emily."
"Obviously, Eddie's paying," he added jokingly as he bid her farewell and left with Eddie.
But as soon as he left, the warm expression was wiped off his face and he became serious.
Eddie, who had been very relaxed in his fiance's home, after seeing the change in Xavier also became serious and was ready for whatever Xavier had in store for him.
"First, come with me to recruit someone quickly. I think they'll be a suitable accountant that you'll be working with, then after that, I've got a few things to deal with. As for money, can you give me a week? After that, you can expect to be paid monthly and you'll be helping with distributing money and sorting out fake employment contracts anyway."
"That's all fine with me, but for the employment contracts, there'll need to be a registered place of work and a few things I need to draft up. I'll also need everyone's information. How many members do you have so far?" asked Eddie, who quickly started thinking of ways to do what Xavier wanted him to get done.
"Let's say around 20, but that number will continue to increase rapidly and not everyone will want to be registered as an official employee so you've got a lot of work in store for you. But let's wait until you get to the office to sort that out."
However, despite what Xavier said, Eddie couldn't suppress his curiosity, which was understandable, as he continued bombarding him with questions until they arrived at the place where Xavier was sure he'd find who he was looking for.
-
Eddie and Zack so far would serve well as 2 key figures that would help run the Outlaw Gang from behind, but there was still the need for some sort of registered accountant.
Someone sketchy and crafty enough to be able to help them with their business, but also able to sign their name down on official documents and help them sort out any money problems.
And from everyone Xavier had scouted so far from those listed out for him by Zack, there was one person that had stood out to Xavier after meeting them.
It coincidentally worked out that he would officially recruit them with Eddie, who was interested to see what kind of person caught Xavier's attention.
While he also was trying his best to gauge just what kind of person the young boss he had decided to work under was.
-
So far Xavier had shown to have sharp instincts, to be mysterious, but also weirdly empathetic and caring.
It was an unusual mix and Eddie wasn't able to get a complete read on Xavier, which was a first for the perceptive and observant lawyer, but that just drew him towards him even more.
And he was sure that he was someone worthy of following and he was indebted to Xavier anyway, so he was ready for whatever was to come.
However, he never expected Xavier to seek out somebody so...
Unusual.
-
Once again, where the scouted individual was working wasn't the most flattering of places. They even gave Eddie a run for his money for the worst possible office.
However, the person Xavier had in mind was very much different from Eddie.
Unlike Eddie, who was broken and didn't seem to care about anything, while also being a much more passive individual, Rachel Boyle was the rowdiest person Xavier had ever come across.
She worked out of a small office that she shared with a bunch of other independent freelancers, and all that was heard upon entering the office was her loud voice.
"What the fuck do you mean you want to cancel our contract?! I audited your whole shitty business and helped you to sort out your taxes, and now you don't want to work with me anymore!"
Eddie looked at Xavier to see whether he was serious about recruiting the woman who was screaming at the top of her lungs, and seeing him nod his head, he sighed and knew that if he ended up recruiting her, working with her would be a headache.
"So you're back kid? And you brought with you this weirdo. What is it you want this time?" she asked aggressively, having already met Xavier who merely asked her a bunch of questions before leaving.
"Excuse me miss. First off, don't go around calling people a kid and trying to belittle them, it makes you seem unintelligent and merely highlights your inferiority complex. And also calling people a weirdo can be offensive, so if you would refrain from calling me that, I would appreciate it," stated Eddie, showing a side of him that Xavier hadn't seen in action yet.
'He truly is a slimy lawyer just like the rest of them. He could probably deal more damage with his slick tongue than I could with my fists,' thought Xavier to himself as he laughed at how enraged Rachel was becoming.
"How about we go outside and talk?" suggested Xavier, but Rachel had already jumped up and attempted to strike his face.
"Woah, calm it down, Rachel. If you try that again, I'll have to strike back, and you won't like that," warned Xavier after catching her flimsy punch with ease and glaring at her.
Her legs buckled out of fear after being threatened by the blue-eyed monster before her, and she truly annoyed Xavier when she went to punch Eddie.
However, before she fell, Xavier still caught her and helped her stand straight.
"We'll be outside if you want to talk. If your gonna be a hot-headed idiot, just stay here," said Xavier as he walked off with Eddie, leaving Rachel in a daze.
She was baffled as to why her body had completely frozen up after merely being glared at by the blue-eyed youth she had met the day before.
Meanwhile, Eddie, who had left with Xavier, was in awe and full of admiration.
-
"That was so cool!" he couldn't help but comment as the two of them stood outside.
Xavier just laughed, and how quickly Eddie could switch between being casual and being serious was amusing and similar to himself.
"What are you thinking of her so far?" asked Xavier, wanting a second opinion on Rachel.
"Well, her fiery nature will be both useful and a hindrance. But I'm sure she has her own story, and if she can be kept under control, she seems pretty skilled. All the documents on her desk were also pretty high-level stuff considering she's working out of such a small office."
"Hmmm..."
Nodding his head, Xavier agreed with what Eddie concluded and went on to give him a brief summary of what he knew about her, from both observing her and reading over Zack's background check on her.
"Rachel Boyle. Any accountancy qualification you can think of, she's already completed them despite being in her early twenties. She's practically overqualified, but because she didn't go to university and couldn't afford to do so, as she didn't want to get into debt and had relatives to take care of, she was never able to get any jobs that fit her capabilities. She also struggled to get far working under anybody, which you would expect from such a wild individual."
"Despite that, she still didn't give up on accountancy and is now nicknamed the crazy accountant, and is someone that has helped quite a few small businesses but has never been able to establish herself or do much. Mostly due to her personality and lack of guidance."
Hearing her story, Eddie had a better idea about the woman that Xavier wanted to recruit and also understood why he'd want to recruit her, but the question was whether she would even join if he offered her a position in the Outlaw Gang.
She'd likely refuse just out of spite and was unlikely to even hear them out, while since she was staying as an independent freelancer, she likely didn't like working under people.
However, despite Eddie's evaluation of her, Xavier just smiled and said, "I think she'll join. Just give it a minute, and my magic should've started to work on her."
"...?"
Eddie didn't know what Xavier meant by that but soon found out as the impulsive woman stormed out of the office she was working in and rushed towards them.
