Chapter 4
Chapter 4: May I Know Your Name, Handsome?
Standing in front of the two incarcerated demonic wolves was Blake, a humanoid demon with jet black skin and two little horns on his head.
“So that’s how you cast a demonic spell...” He mumbled while looking at the two wolves who couldn’t break away from the tendrils of darkness despite trying to do their best to break free from them.
As he was still curious about the demonic spell, Blake once again drew the same demonic rune in front of the demonic wolves, and this time, he was able to observe the whole process when the tendrils of darkness appeared from the ground beneath one of the wolves and latched themselves onto its body, stabbing their pointy end to the wolf’s body to secure their grip on them.
“Hmm... I think the tendrils of darkness that the beautiful miss used had more than just the ones that latched onto the wolf’s body, I remember that there were also the tendrils that stabbed right through the wolf’s body. How do I do it?”
Recalling back the memory from watching the demoness deal with the demon wolves, Blake remembered that the demoness also drew another rune, different from the one that he was copying, so he decided to also replicate it and drew the runes in the air using his finger.
The demonic rune stayed afloat in the air for a split second again before disappearing, and this time, the tendrils of darkness that appeared from the ground beneath one of the wolves didn’t bend sideways to latch onto the wolf’s body, instead, it thrust its pointy end straight to the wolf’s body and they stayed standing straight like a fiddle after creating more holes on the wolf’s body.
“So that’s how you did it! Although the second demonic rune was similar to the first one, the slight difference was the one that changed the outcome of the spell! This casting spell thingy is very interesting!” Blake said out loud while still observing the two wolves.
.....
This was his first time ever using magic, albeit it was demonic magic rather than the magic that the humans used, but still, it was a core memory for him, someone that had never been able to use magic in his entire life and had been living a life of suffering from it.
He stared at the tendrils of darkness, the first-ever spell that he had cast using his own two hands, observing every inch of it as he still wondered how he was able to summon those things using his own power.
Blake was so focused on staring as he didn’t even realize the demoness that had sent the two demonic wolves to run after him was now floating right above his head, observing everything that had happened with him and the two wolves.
It was a comical sight for her when she saw two injured demonic wolves chasing after a humanoid demon that can talk fluently. For her, the scene that was playing in front of her was like watching a fully grown adult human running away from two newly born puppies.
Her interest was quite piqued when she saw the humanoid demon running in an intricate pattern through the woods and causing the wolves to struggle to keep up with his movements.
And later, she was alerted when she saw the humanoid demon suddenly stop running and turned his body to face the wolves directly.
‘Will he finally drop his act and finish off the wolves before coming after me?’ She thought as she observed every small movement that the humanoid demon made.
But when she finally saw what the humanoid demon was doing, she was dumbfounded beyond belief as she was practically frozen in place seeing the humanoid demon was using her original spell that she had just created.
All demonic spells were created by drawing demonic runes. By combining the existing runes in a certain way, a demonic spell would be created. And while most demons learned an already existing spell from a teacher or from a record somewhere, some demons who studied the demonic runes were also able to create their own original spell that was unique to themselves unless they taught the rune combination to other demons or some other demonic rune master studied their spell and break them down to recreate it.
The original spell that she had just created was an advanced and improved version of the basic darkness tendrils spell. The basic spell was only able to summon dark tendrils from the ground at a certain range and the tendrils would latch onto anything that they came in contact with. It was a very useful spell to incapacitate an enemy, but due to the spell’s nature, it would be quite hard for an ordinary demon mage to time the spell correctly so that the tendrils of darkness would actually latch onto their target.
However, the original spell that she created was able to solve the problem entirely by adding detecting runes that were able to pinpoint the location of the target that the caster was targeting, completely erasing the need to calculate and aim the spell correctly.
It wasn’t a complicated spell that took her years to make, in fact, it only took her a few weeks to balance the combined runes together, and an experienced runemaster would be able to figure out what rune she added with only a single glance.
But she could tell that the humanoid demon was not one. No runemaster would be willing to lower themselves into running away from the weak demonic wolves that haven’t even evolved once. Even if they were just acting, she couldn’t imagine those arrogant pricks running left and right in the woods, trying to survive from being chased by weak demons that couldn’t even hurt their toes.
But it was still a fact that the humanoid demon below her did just use her own original spell to deal with the demonic wolves. She didn’t know how long the humanoid demon had seen her drawing those runes, but she knew that she had drawn them fast enough that no one would be able to remember and replicate them even after looking at how she did it ten times. And that includes the runemasters.
The humanoid demon was able to use her original spell after only taking a look at it probably a couple of times. And now, he was currently looking at the tendrils of darkness as if it was the first time he had ever seen them. And it made the demoness completely confused with the humanoid demon’s identity.
She then decided, while her hands behind her back were creating another one of her original spells that enabled her to detect lies, she started slowly floating down towards the humanoid demon with a sweet smile plastered on her face.
And when she saw the humanoid demon was shocked for a split second before his face flustered the second after when he saw her smiling face, she smiled even wider before asking,
“May I know your name, handsome?”
