‘Ding Dong!’
A few seconds later, the servant opened the door and respectfully greeted, “Miss is back.”
“Mother Xu, what happened with the lock?”
Hearing Gu Qiangwei’s words, Mother Xu hesitated, her eyes flickering to Chen Peifang, who was sitting on the sofa at the moment.
With just one look, Qiangwei understood everything.
Carrying her bag, she walked into the living room, her beautiful black eyes fixed on the woman on the sofa.
“Did you change the password?”
Seeing her return, Chen Peifang did not show a pleasant face, “Yeah.”
Gu Qiangwei approached, her tone filled with accusation, “By what right did you do this?”
Chen Peifang just glanced at her with contempt and continued to watch TV, “There was a glitch with the password before, of course it needed to be changed.”
“What’s the password now?”
This time, Chen Peifang did not speak again, apparently not intending to answer her question.
Gu Qiangwei knew she wasn’t going to tell her the password and couldn’t help but let out a sneer.
This was her home, yet now it felt as if she were merely a lodger, having to ring the doorbell just to get in.
Casting a cold glance at Chen Peifang, Gu Qiangwei had no intention of subjecting herself to further indignity and, bag in hand, headed to the second floor.
Back in her own room, she took out her phone, intending to call her father.
But as she flipped to her father’s number, she hesitated.
The reason Chen Peifang was able to live here was all because she had given birth to a son for her father, and Gu Qiangwei was all too aware of her father’s preference for sons over daughters.
In this family, her status was evidently not as high as Gu Shijie’s, but Gu Zhendong was not so dismissive of her.
After much hesitation, Gu Qiangwei still dialed her father’s number.
The phone was soon picked up.
But before Qiangwei had a chance to speak, she heard the urgent voice of Gu Zhendong, “Qiangwei, dad is a bit busy right now, can we talk later?”
As the words were spoken, without waiting for Gu Qiangwei to respond, a busy signal came through the earpiece.
Hearing that cold busy signal, Gu Qiangwei felt as if she were in an ice cellar, utterly despondent.
Forget it, she was used to it anyway!
Meanwhile, downstairs in the dining room.
Chen Peifang sat at the dining table, having already picked up her chopsticks, and seeing this, Mother Xu curtsied and said, “Madam, I’ll go call Miss to come down for dinner.”
Having said that, Mother Xu was about to turn and leave.
“Did I ask you to call her?”
Behind her, Chen Peifang’s icy voice arose.
Mother Xu paused, turned her head in surprise to look at her.
With the master away, the madam was treating the young mistress this way?
“But…”
“It’s nothing, step down!”
Faced with Chen Peifang’s command, Mother Xu opened her mouth but ultimately felt powerless to resist.
“Yes.”
Upstairs, as Gu Qiangwei collected her emotions, she checked the time—it was already 7:20 PM. Why hadn’t Mother Xu called her for dinner yet?
Confused, she went downstairs.
By then, Chen Peifang had already finished dinner and seemed to be heading out.
“Madam, take care.”
After seeing her off, Mother Xu turned to see Gu Qiangwei descending the stairs, and, with a slight smile, approached her, “Miss.”
Gu Qiangwei withdrew her gaze, looked at Mother Xu, and then turned her eyes toward the kitchen, “Mother Xu, I’m hungry, haven’t we started dinner yet?”
That question, however, deeply saddened Mother Xu.
With a somber expression, “Miss, dinner has already been served.”
Upon hearing this, Gu Qiangwei paused, turning her head in surprise to look at Mother Xu, thinking she had misheard.
“Already served?”
