Book 3: Chapter 72

Chapter 72. 'School Day'

Mallorca Escuela.

Mallorca Island, formerly a Spanish territory, has changed its name to the 'Republic of Mallorca Island. It has also established its own national system. Located in the dungeons of Mallorca Island, Mallorca Escuela is the one and only state-run inclusive school in the world.

The allowable number of students per academic year is 45, and the school operates with 15 students per class.

The school is also famous for attracting a small group of elite geniuses.

To enroll or study abroad here, it is essential to have a "slot"; even if all the slots are filled, only 225 students can be enrolled at the most. It is difficult for an average person to get in. You have to be highly talented.

One of the reasons for the rush of applicants to this school was the favorable treatment guaranteed by the government. Of course, students studying in this school are the world's future, so, usually, they will be significantly treated.

The academy is located in Sa Pobla, in the middle of the third level of the Mallorca Resort dungeon. So access to the dungeon is terribly free.

In addition, the students from Mallorca Escuela are allowed to freely come and go through the dungeons below the sixth level, which are generally inaccessible to tourists and other residents.

In short - unlike Japan, this academy is a place where students between the ages of 16 and 20 can freely train themselves in the dungeon without restrictions. They can have the freedom to choose where to go and train.

In the whole world, this kind of system can only be found in Mallorca.

Of course, there were several other favorable aspects as well.

The teachers of this academy are also all former brave, famous professional explorers who had been unparalleled since the first dungeon era, and the quality of the teaching was by far the highest in the world.

Furthermore, the contents of the lectures were also remarkable. The school is famous for the same world-class curriculum, which naturally attracts the top talent of its generation from all over the world.

There are numerous favorable treatments for the students based on their ability, such as grants and rewards from the school for some students.

The Orelia translator that Tenji wears on his ear is one such example.

And the main reason why only limited students are selected for the school ------

Just as the walls of a dungeon cannot be broken, the town that existed before people entered this dungeon cannot be rebuilt or remodeled by any means. So, there is a limit to the size of the city. That is why the number of people who can live in it is also limited.

Only those with talent, a message, ambition, luck, and everything else will be selected here. The selection is highly competetive.

"Good morning, Tenji!"

"Oh, good morning, Pyne!"

As Tenji parked his mountain bike in the parking lot just outside the school gate, he heard a cheerful woman's voice behind him.

He locked his bike and quickly turned around to see Pyne looking into Tenji's face with a friendly smile on hers.

Mohammed Pyne.

She is a 16-year-old freshman, like Tenji, a uniquely mid-eastern-African woman full of passion which has come alone from Senegal to study abroad in Mallorca.

She and Tenji happened to come to study abroad on the same day, and since they often sat next to each other and lived close to each other, they naturally became good friends.

Pyne lived alone.

Pyne's skin was brown, and she wore her black hair in a short bun. She sometimes oversleeps and comes to school with explosive, artistic hair.

Her clothes, like Tenji's, were provided by the Mallorca Escuela and were a flashy red with green. The colors made her look even more cheerful.

"Did you ride your bike again today? It's a long way from here."

"Yeah, it's just good exercise. Your'e on the school bus, right?"

"That's right! I'm not much of a morning person.-- Oh, it's about to start! We should go!"

Pyne suddenly looked at her watch, hurriedly took Tenji's arm, and ran inside.

Tenji couldn't help but smile at the flurry of activity, trying not to spill his lemonade in this hastiness.

Pyne is always an energetic and playful girl. Tenji felt weirdly nervous when he first met her, but after a week, he gradually got used to her behavior.

To begin with, many foreigners have excessive physical contact with each other, and some even kiss each other on the cheek as a customary greeting. Tenji was gradually getting accustomed to Mallorca Island, where different cultures mingled together.

There are no shoe boxes at the school's entrance like in Japanese schools, and students enter the classroom with their outdoor shoes instead of taking them off.

Tenji and Pyne entered a class marked '1-A', where 13 other students happily conversed and eagerly read their textbooks.

Tenji takes his familiar step and sits in the second seat from the back by the window. The classroom is relatively small, and the desks are arranged in three rows and five columns. There are only three seats per row, so Tenji's seat is closer to the middle of the row.

Pyne sat beside him, and none of the Mallorca Escuela 1-A students made it to morning homeroom without being late.

Tenji pulls out a single ultra-thin tablet device from his bag. This is where all the textbooks, notes, and lectures are stored. Three of these are distributed to each student and contain all the material that will be studied until the fifth year.

There is no library or other resource room here due to the size of the site. All of the library books and lecture videos have been digitized.

There are many other functions built into this tablet. However, Tenji and the other first-year students still didn't understand all of its features from start to finish.

As expected of Mallorca, this is state-of-the-art educational equipment.

"Tenji, is that lemonade again?"

Suddenly, Pyne asked, staring at the lemonade on his desk.

In response to this question, Tenji pulls out a sandwich from his bag that he got for free.

"Yeah, I'm totally hooked. My uncle was in a good mood today, so he gave me an extra sandwich. It's delicious. Do you want some?"

"Ehhh, I've been buying drinks for a week as well and they haven't given me an extra, not even once! On the contrary, they don't even make eye contact with me, you know? I think Mallorcan people are more shy than Japanese............ Oh, give me some!"

"Haha, that uncle sure is shy. Yes, don't eat all of it, okay?"

"I won't eat it all. Well, Tenji is shy enough. Are all Japanese people shy after all?"

"I think I'm rather normal, but if Pyne thinks so, then maybe Japanese people are shy."

Pyne took a bite of uncle's special sandwich, smiled deliciously, and handed the wrapper back to Tenji.

She wasn't one to shy away from things she hadn't seen before and had a tendency to try to enjoy everything excitingly. That's why she could quickly eat sandwiches she had never eaten. That is why she could be good friends with Tenji, whom she had never met.

Pyne then begins to talk aggressively to another student when she has extra time.

Tenji was still unable to engage in active conversation, exhibiting his characteristic Japanese shyness to the best of his ability.

Munching on a sandwich and lemonade, he read the lecture material. He waited until the lecture was about to start.

"Yes, let's begin!" Tenji says to himself.

Then after five minutes of waiting.

The class door was opened, and Ms. Megan Pugh, the 1-A homeroom teacher, entered the room. Her long blonde hair flowed dominantly.

She is a tall, slender American woman and a great heroic explorer who was once famous worldwide as a first-grade explorer. Now that she has a child, she has retired from the front lines to devote herself to educating the younger generation at this school.

Then, standing in front of the teaching table, she briefly checks the faces of the students.

"No absences today. Today we have a lecture on Mallorcan Monsterology and practical exercises in the morning. Well, it's been three weeks since school started, so you can kind of understand it....... If you're a transfer or study abroad student, ask around if you don't understand something. I'm going to go change Billy's diaper."

This school is freedom.

Students are not forced to attend lectures or take attendance, so as long as they study hard and score well on tests, there are no problems.

Teachers are also treated well and allowed to work freely. Many of them have the title of former hero explorers and were invited to join the school.

Mrs. Megan, the 1-A homeroom teacher, also takes time out from parenting to go to morning and afternoon homerooms. She only comes to school when she lectures on the 'healing calling.'

That's probably why when the teacher is free, an avalanche of highly conscious students swarms in to ask the questions. The distance between student and teacher naturally grows closer, and the teacher kindly teaches them about their future and how to fight.

The close relationship between students and teachers is probably one of the reasons why Mallorca Escuela is flooded with applicants.

Mrs. Megan left the class, and almost without a pause, Mr. Leon Schultz entered the room to give his next lecture.

He is a famous German teacher with blonde hair that is coolly gelled. He was well-known as a handsome man.

He usually wears fashionable casual clothes, but today he wore a tailor-made suit as if he had some business to attend to.

"We'll begin today's Mallorcan Monsterology Basics."

Mr. Schultz is in charge of a rather specialized field of Mallorcan Monsterology.

He has been on the front lines as an explorer in this Mallorca Resort dungeon for over a decade and knows more about the monster ecology here than anyone else.

"Ah, as I thought, there are a lot of serious students in this class. There are no absences today either. It's very different from the next class. Well, it's okay. We'll start the lecture on the monster ecology of the Mallorca Resort Dungeon from Chapter 2, page 45."

In Mr. Schultz's words, the page on the tablet switches by itself.

The tablet automatically detects the teacher's voice and automatically switches to the desired page.

However, since everyone here has already done the prep work, no one was looking at the tablets but always paying attention to what Mr. Schultz said and did.

"First, a quick recap of chapter one. This Mallorca Resort dungeon has a completely different monster ecology than the other 46 dungeons. In chapter 1, I gave you a lecture on the basic monsters that appear in the surface field from the first to the fifth level."

Lightly ruffling his hair, he checks to see if the students understand.

The students all nodded their heads in earnest.

"As expected of you honor students..... From this second chapter, we're dealing with the basic monsters of Level 6 onwards. Well, I'm sure you guys have done your homework, so I'll get on with it and leave more time for questions."

The Shadow Monkey is a fourth-grade monster that often appears in the forest areas of the eighth level, hiding in the shadows of trees and various other dark places and attacking by surprise.

They are not so strong and are known for their surprise and offensive abilities.

Tree Lizards are lizard-like monsters that mimic trees.

It has been known to bite at your ankles and neck in surprise attacks and never leave, and it is also a fourth-grade monster.

The students will learn about the ecology of these monsters, in other words, how to defeat them and their habits in more detail, by listening to their teacher's actual experiences and how to fight them.

He will also teach how to stand up in each situation.

"--So let's start with the Shadow Monkey first."

Mr. Schultz began his lecture.
