Chapter 91 Revelation
"Do you know anything about the Kang Family?" Ren Ye raised his eyebrows as he watched her expression change from being overly gentle to being completely dark.
"Did I say something wrong?" Ren Ye was momentarily confused as he scratched his head, trying to think what he has said wrong.
Jing Xue's dark expression slowly withered away before she lightly shook her head and replied emotionlessly, "It is nothing."
"…"
"You are asking about the Kang Family?" Jing Xue frowned deeply as she ponders.
"Did someone trick you again into doing his dirty work?" Jing Xue quickly became defensive as she raised her suspicions.
Jing Xue could have sworn she had a dream a couple of days ago that someone had intruded into her dreams to ask about the Kang Family. To see Ren Ye asking the same question, she had a sense of deja vu.
"Strange."
Old Yi chuckled inside his head. With a tremble of his voice, Old Yi didn't stop laughing as he pointed out, "She thinks I am the cause of everything that came forth?"
"I mean. In a way, you are," Ren Ye admitted in a serious tone. Old Yi stopped laughing as he scoffed, "I am the reason you are still living."
"I wonder why didn't Jing Xue bring you up considering you were the one who got the information about the Kang Family from?" Ren Ye expressed his thoughts as he guessed Old Yi must have used some kind of power to manipulate her to make her forget him or forcing her to forget ever talking to him.
"I went inside her dream," Old Yi admitted guiltily as he scratched his head, "It was merely my curiosity but I got more that I anticipated."
"Mm?" Ren Ye wanted to know what has happened between him and Old Yi. By getting the answer, he could get a glimpse of her family life.
"She is connected to a powerhouse," Old Yi admitted truthfully, "In fact, she is a direct descendant of one."
"What do you mean?"
"She belongs to an ancient family that holds the Death element," Old Yi said in a solemn voice, "Her father is connected to royalty while her mother is connected to a…"
"A?" Ren Ye asked.
"An extremely powerful-being," Old Yi pursed his lips before closing them, "It is better not to talk about them. I have already done enough harm by intruding into her dream."
"Harm? Did you offend them by breaking the barrier her family had placed in her to protect her?" Ren Ye merely guessed this was what happened, "If so then you are likely to have been interrogated by them."
"I admit my curiosity got the best of them. There was a sense of mystery surrounding her, don't you think so?" Old Yi chuckled bitterly, "I had to erase my traces the moment I returned to the open world."
"You are giving me a hard time here," Ren Ye felt a looming headache as he thought of what to say to Jing Xue about his apparent connection to her intruder.
"I admit I was wrong," Old Yi wanted to cry out in distress.
Back to being in the room with Jing Xue.
"Why do you want to know about them?" Jing Xue asked him all of a sudden, her expression became unreadable.
"How do I make an excuse that sounds convincible?" Ren Ye tried to think of a reason as to why he would suddenly ask her about a family that was not related nor connected to them in anyway.
"I know someone who is interested in working for them," Ren Ye played with Ren Jia's hair as he lowers his head, looking rather indifferent.
"Are they related to them? If not, I suggest it is better for him to find another family," Jing Xue quickly refuted any attempts of his to get the information from her.
Her eyes swiftly turned to him as they swelled with curiosity, Ren Ye genuinely thought she had become an animated character just now from her expression.
"You want to know about them?" Jing Xue spoke his intentions without him needing to speak about them, her curious eyes began to become funny before being replaced with a deadpan expression.
"Yes," Ren Ye admitted the truth, "I need to find them."
As he opened his mouth to explain his reason, Jing Xue quickly placed her finger against his lips; gesturing for him to stop speaking.
Her eyes softened significantly, "You do not need to explain your reason. I understand."
She understood the serious injuries that he had sustained must have been related to them in some way. It would be shameless of her if she was to stop him after much of his sacrifice.
She was still rather worried.
"If you want to know, I will let you understand what kind of family they are," She lowered his eyelashes as she pursed her lips quietly, "Not many know the past surrounding them."
"I want to know the history behind Kang Fan and his entire family," Ren Ye spoke calmly.
"Kang Fan is an honorable man," Jing Xue began humbly, "He headed the family for fifty years before his abdication to his son from his second marriage."
"They are family that descends from lines of famous painters and artists especially ones whose names you learn in school. They take pride in them very much as Kang Fan would often make sure all of his children know the value of their family traditions."
"He, himself, is a well-known artist."
Ren Ye suddenly shook his head, "I want to know more about his first marriage and his second marriage."
Jing Xue's lips opened as she heaved a heavy sigh, "My grandfather used to be close to him in the past. Generally, I know many things that is not well-known to the public."
"Indeed, he has two wives. His first wife died relatively young and bore him a son."
"His son also died in the car accident."
Ren Ye's heart trembled heavily as his chest felt suffocated, "How do you know?"
"The police found their bodies soonly after the car accident. They had been disfigured to the point of being unrecognizable."
"Impossible. What was the driver doing?"
"The driver was drinking under the influence and crashed the car into a tree."
Ren Ye shook his head out of disbelief, "If he was under the influence and the mother and son were sober, why didn't they wait for another driver to pick them up?"
"I am sure they know what kind of person their driver is before the accident," Ren Ye spoke almost in a fast pace.
Jing Xue was slightly speechless by his emotional outbursts as she admitted her ignorance, "I don't know."
Ren Ye stumbled back into his head as he looked defeated, "Continue on. What happened afterwards?"
"Kang Fan grieved for days and put their bodies to rest after five days of sleeping beside them. He refused to eat and drink until his second wife decided to come back from France to support him."
"They eventually married after that."
"…"
Ren Ye added with suspicion, "Something is wrong. Did Kang Fan know his second wife before his first wife's death? Why would he suddenly marry a woman right after his wife had died?"
"Mm," Jing Xue made a thoughtful nose, reminding Ren Ye of Ren Jia's habit of making the thoughtful noise, "They knew each other way back before he even met his first wife."
Ren Ye lowered his head with a gloomy expression. Jing Xue almost instinctively took note of his sudden change in expression as she immediately realized a problem.
"Don't you know there were rumors that they once dated each other back in high school?" Jing Xue added with an extremely complex expression as her eyes gleamed with coldness, "The rumors never left and continued to evolve into something much worse."
"Apparently, they were seeing each other behind their spouses' back."
Ren Ye finally came to a realization, "Could it be…"
Jing Xue, too, came to a conclusion, "They were murdered by her?"
Ren Ye nodded his head and the headache began to throb as he rubbed his temples.
"She wasn't in France at that time. She had been lying to everyone. She stayed at the city where the accident happened that day!"
"I knew it!" Jing Xue cried out, "She isn't a very good woman from the start."
"Kang Fan…He is the one at fault for their murders including his mistress," Ren Ye's vein bulged as the anger inside his head raged, "He caused the murder of his own child because of his own ignorance and his neglect of his fatherly duties."
Jing Xue nodded her head, "For years, he never once stopped the rumors from spreading. Not even once, the one who had to suffer was his wife."
"Why would you suddenly want to know about them?" Jing Xue asked him sincerely.
"I am friend with someone in their family," He silently raised his head with determined eyes, "His first son, Kang Lei."
Jing Xue's eyes dilated, "Did you find him? Is he alive?"
Ren Ye didn't nod nor shake his head. Instead, he simply curled his lips into a regretful smile, "It is a shame he left his last legacy to me."
