Chapter 209: Chaos in the City
Chapter 209: Chaos in the City
The City of Hope was now one of utter disaster as ruins were seen everywhere, the flame dancing about different sections of large buildings that were ruined by giant creatures. Looking around, one would notice that amongst these wreckages were corpses of both giant mosquitoes and a bundle of Evolvers that had bloody holes all over their shriveled skin.
Many of them held onto their broken weapons despite dying a tragic death as some weapons remained plunged into the corpses of these beasts.
A group of mosquitoes scattered about in all directions as there were cries of pitiful individuals sounding from different locations as the chaotic sounds of battle ensued.
"Fight them back, protect the core of the city!" A valiant Evolver said as he jumped towards a group of three mosquitos that were even larger than himself and pushed them back with an invisible wall.
"Right, we can't let them break the final line!" A woman said as a flurry of object crashed into another bundle of mosquitos, lightly injuring them.
These two were pretty capable of holding their own against a small group, as those who were weaker rapidly retreated towards a different section.
There, one would notice that around the entire Hall of Governance, spanning a region of a few hundred square meters. A strange kind of blue energy barrier had formed which sealed off vicinity.
Inside this domain, a few of the cannons that had shut down were reactivated as they faced the sky. Many different weaker citizens were assembled in this area as the militia that stood amongst them guarded the human-sized rounded entrance.
They finally noticed the group that was rapidly escaping to their direction, one of them took a step forward blurring as they moved to help them, but suddenly, a dangerous scene had occurred.
Following a myriad of buzzing noises, a horde of over a dozen giant mosquitoes came out of nowhere, soaring through the ominous-looking sky enveloped by a dark reddish cloud.
They made a sly arc, curving downwards towards the small batch of citizens escaping to the safe ground.
The faces of both the militia and the Evolvers who fought to protect them sunk as they exclaimed, "Not good!"
"Nooo!" The escapees said as some of them couldn't help but close their eyes and stop moving due to fear, they've seen what happened to their comrades and knew what fate had in store for them.
The mosquitoes flew down with a cruel glint in their eyes, as it seemed that all would end in a tragedy. However, there soon came a new change.
"Gravity Surge!" Wilma's cold but pleasant voice said as the entire space before the group mosquitoes they were descending.
Before they could even react, they each halted as if an unknown force influenced them.
Wilma soon after appeared in the sky as if she was weightless when she stood in the air; her hair danced about as her body glowed in bright lights when she pointed her fingers and spoke, "Gravity Crush..."
A buzzing sound resounded as the gravity force had begun to pull them towards a central location. After a few seconds, each of them had been crushed into a giant blob of flesh and blood.
As Wilma saw that they were demolished, she wiped the sweat from her forehead while thinking, 'It's good, they should be capable of handling the rest, I... I have to hurry to find Sir Milon."
After thinking this, her eyes showed traces of worry as she heard about the crash; she didn't know what she'd do if he didn't know to survive.
"Everyone, take care of the rest!" Wilma said to the void as with a whoosh; she utilized her gravity powers to jump across the air, moving towards the city's distant parts.
The moment she left, a few other individuals dressed in high-class gear had appeared, they looked at each other and nodded as they hurried to help out with the situation.
Currently, within the Hall of Governance, Vernisa was standing before a few officials staring at the large screen. From a glance, the video feed of Milon's fleet crashing into a few buildings was played, followed by the horde that wreaked havoc all over the city.
A few other battles could be noticed in different locations, as Evolvers clashed against these mosquitoes overwhelming numbers, fighting a bloody and desperate struggle.
Finally, the last display was the scene at the summits of the black and reddish clouds with numerous mosquitoes. There the Mosquito Queen Marlin was currently seated idly as she looked around at the chaos with pleasure on her face. She was currently drinking the blood from an Evolver with a bright and cheerful look in her eyes.
Bang! Vernisa hit her palms against the wall of the building with a hard slam, causing a few cracks to appear as she cursed, "That darn bitch! We cannot let her have her way!"
The officials also had a similar line of thoughts as they look of their face were also one of anger, one of them looked at Vernisa and spoke, "Madame Briggs, we must do something, our reserve power units won't last forever. If they were to have another sonic bug, we'd be in big trouble."
Vernisa knew what they meant; they had to pull out all the stops to get this defense unit working, the barrier wasn't even a tenth of its true strength, even without another EMP surge, it would break after the necessary amount of pressure.
Vernisa thought for a moment before she spoke, "Those sonic bugs are rare, and it's likely it won't be able to use that attack for a few more days. Our barrier can only last for 48 hours; we must evacuate all the survivors through the use of the underground exits."
The officials hearing this nodded as they replied, "Understood."
Not long after, they departed the room to handle the necessary procedures leaving behind Vernisa, who stared at Marlin with rage.
She felt angered by the current circumstances and didn't know what to do, even their SOS and communication system had been destroyed causing it to result in a fragmented message.
She was about to leave the room, but suddenly, her eyes grew wide as she noticed an unexpected scene. One that instantly changed her mood to one of joy as a newfound hope had risen in her eyes...
