Ancient Eden

Chapter 81

Chapter 81

~End of chapter 80

The man who looked like the leader went to Da Wu and said a string of words. Da Wu stared at him angrily, he looked like he was cursing him. The man did not speak much, he just pulled out the bone knife on Da Wu’s waist, pulled on his ear with his other hand and then sliced it off with great force, separating his ear from his body in an instant.

The blade of the bone knife was not so sharp as to cut off the ear with one cut, so it was clearly half cut and half torn off. Da Wu let out a scream coming from the bottom of hell, as his shoulder quickly got stained with blood.

Mu Qing was so horrified that she could no longer make a sound. She just shrunk on herself to a corner of the cave. She wanted to close her eyes, but her eyes seemed to have lost control, as she just fixedly stared at Da Wu, who had fallen on the ground with endless spasms.

The leader wrapped Da Wu’s ear in a piece of animal skin and threw it to the man with the black scar on the side.

The man with the black scar took it and immediately got up, disappearing into the darkness of the night outside the cave with another man.

The other people’s eyes were shining with excitement, as they gathered together, talking non-stop. Mu Qing occasionally heard words she knew, “fur”, “millet seeds”. Those were often mentioned in the settlement.

The light of the fire gradually faded out. The sound of snoring resounded in the cave. Apart from a sitting night watcher at the entrance of the cave, all the other men fell asleep on the ground.

Da Wu at first emitted intermittent low moan, before gradually turning silent, lying motionless on the ground. Mu Qing guessed that he had fainted because of blood loss, but there was probably no danger to his life.

In the darkness, her mind gradually cleared up. According to the actions of this group and her ability to grab a few words, it was very likely that they had instructed the man with the black scar and his companion to go to Li Mang’s tribe to send a message, requiring furs and food in exchange for their leader. And the proof of it was one of Da Wu’s ears.

This tribe was full of violence and cruelty. This could be seen from the way they ate. They knew to roast the meat on the fire, but not until it was fully cooked. This was most likely because they were used to eating things that tasted of blood.

She wondered how much of a coincidence it was that they happened to show up near her and Da Wu, it looked like they had been tailing behind them.

But in any case, it seemed that she and Da Wu’s lives were probably safe for now, and judging from how the man with the black scar was kicked away before, she didn’t have to worry about being violated for now, though she couldn’t figure out why.

At dawn, rain was pouring. The group did not postpone their journey because of the bad weather and continued on their way, taking Mu Qing and Da Wu along. They didn’t arrive until it was dark again. Indistinctly, Mu Qing could see the shadows of a lot of people moving towards them.

Before Mu Qing could see more, she was carried along with Da Wu, and was locked into what seemed to be a cave once again. Inside the darkness, she could still feel that this place was not very big. It was full of pungent stench.

Mu Qing had not eaten anything since yesterday. It was fortunate that it had been raining today, so she had opened her mouth on the way to drink a lot of rainwater, and now she was not thirsty. The feeling of extreme hunger had also passed, and with the stench here, she did not feel hungry anyway. She just felt weak all over, her wet clothes were tightly sticking to her body, and it was very uncomfortable. Her flip-flops had long been thrown away somewhere, and she was now bare feet.

She did not know how Da Wu’s state was now, but even if she wanted to take a look, there was no way to, it was completely dark inside. She just tried to call out for him a few times, and a moment later, she heard his voice responding to her not far away. Although there was not much strength in his voice, but he didn’t sound like he was close to death for now.

In the darkness, she took off her clothes and pants, making great efforts to wring out the water inside, before putting them back on. She felt tired and wanted to rest against the cave wall. Once she fell asleep, time would pass faster.

Sitting on the ground, she slowly groped backwards when her back hit something, there was a loud noise, as if a pile of things had collapsed. Reaching out to feel out a little, she touched a smooth cylindrical object, she did not know what it was, and so she threw it aside, and started to explore once again until she reached an empty corner. She leaned there and slowly closed her eyes.

She was thinking of Li Mang as she fell asleep.
