516. Return to the Flashpoint Universe.
516. Return to the Flashpoint Universe.
The Wasteland timeline continued progressing along its original path, but for the White Queen, her personal timeline froze at this very moment.
Opening a portal, Alex led the White Queen into the House of Mystery that existed outside the Wasteland timeline.
Alex wasn't sure how long it would take to help the White Queen. After all, Tony Stark was still recovering from a hangover. However, Emma's condition was dire—she could pass away at any moment.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
Thus, Alex decided to bring her to the House of Mystery first. By anchoring the portal to the exact moment they left, no matter how long they spent in the House of Mystery, no one in the Wasteland would notice any difference.
Due to her aging and deteriorating body, the White Queen couldn't even stand on her own anymore. She relied on the wheelchair left behind by Professor X to move around.
Looking around the House of Mystery's facilities with curiosity, Emma's heart raced.
She had never dared to imagine that one day she would step outside the timeline itself and join a great organization governing the universe's timelines.
"Feel free to look around, but don't touch any locked doors. Tony Stark set up plenty of magical traps here, and they're quite dangerous," Alex explained casually.
"Magical traps? Does this place often face enemy invasions?" Emma asked in surprise.
"Not really. It's mainly to stop Pietro and Ashley from stealing booze or Damian from hiding here to avoid Bruce while sneaking snacks," Alex said with a shrug.
To prove his point, Emma noticed a golden glow flicker across the refrigerator's surface.
"Uh..." Emma's mouth twitched, unsure how to respond.
"It's not as bad as it sounds. Most of Stark's traps are transformation spells. For some reason, he's taken a liking to turning people into frogs lately. Fortunately, the spells are temporary," Alex added.
Listening to Alex, Emma suddenly recalled an urban legend in the Wasteland. Supposedly, in the dark alleys of New New York, some had claimed to see a ridiculously fast-moving frog and another shooting webs.
At the time, the witnesses assumed they were seeing some kind of mutated frog monsters and reported it to the Alliance. However, the Alliance dismissed it as drunken hallucinations, and the matter was dropped.
Now, it seemed there might have been some truth to the rumors.
As Alex guided Emma through the House of Mystery's corridors, he explained its facilities while speaking to her.
"You're now outside the timeline, so time can no longer take your life. However, your body is still in bad shape, so I suggest you rest here for a while until Tony Stark sobers up to help you."
"Alright, I'll do as you say," Emma nodded without objection.
"This corridor houses the living quarters. The House of Mystery creates new rooms tailored to each occupant's needs. Just choose a door and open it—that'll be your room," Alex explained.
He pointed at a door but didn't touch the handle himself. Opening it would reveal a room shaped by his own subconscious desires.
"You don't need to worry about others accidentally entering your room. All the rooms here are magically protected. Only you can open your door, making unauthorized access nearly impossible. It's somewhat like the Room of Requirement," Alex added.
"Although I don't fully understand, I'm sure I'll get used to it," Emma said earnestly.
"Good. You can stay here for now. Don't worry about Logan—the timelines flow at different rates. No matter how long you stay here, only a second will pass there," Alex assured her.
After seeing Emma safely to her room, Alex turned and quickly walked toward the main hall. At the same time, he silently issued instructions.
"Lady, upload a file for me. Once Tony Stark sobers up, have him prioritize helping the White Queen. Also, send a copy to Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman."
(Understood!)
After a brief pause, the voice of Miss Minutes sounded again.
(But Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman are currently on vacation with their kids.)
"They can spend time with their kids later. Have them work overtime to resolve this issue first."
(According to Overseer Ordinance No. 7, characters like Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, who are not native to the Wasteland timeline, cannot return to the same temporal anchor point within a short period. Doing so could easily create timeline branches.)
Unlike Pietro, Kara, or Damian—who were half-Wasteland heroes and half-Overseers—characters like Mr. Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, and Tony Stark were more closely bound to the House of Mystery itself.
In the Wasteland timeline, their presence wasn't supposed to exist. After all, Stark didn't belong to that timeline, and Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman were already "dead" within the flow of time.
The only reason they occasionally visited the Wasteland to spend time with their kids was because Alex had added a loophole that allowed them to escape from the time stream.
However, this loophole wasn't stable. Their main responsibilities were still tied to the House of Mystery. To avoid disrupting the timeline, their time with their kids was strictly limited in both duration and frequency.
If they were summoned back now, it might be a very long time before they could see their children again.
From their children's perspective, their parents might only be gone for a few days or months, but for Mr. Fantastic and the Invisible Woman, it could feel far longer.
Thinking of this, Alex sighed.
"Alright, let's hold off on calling them back for now. Once Stark sobers up, we can decide. If he needs Mr. Fantastic's help, we'll summon them then. After all, the White Queen is an old friend of theirs."
(Understood.)
"Also, review the files in the Timepad archives. I need a universe suitable for trade with the Wasteland."
Upon hearing this, Miss Minutes immediately began her task. In no time, she responded.
(There are currently 452 observable unknown timelines and parallel universes around the Wasteland Universe, but they are all abandoned and on the brink of destruction. Based on the archives, there are two universes that match your requirements.)
"Which two?"
Alex immediately dismissed the abandoned timelines. As he'd considered before, entering an unknown nightmare timeline without preparation could easily lead to unexpected conflicts.
Moreover, Alex couldn't guarantee those abandoned timelines would have enough resources to bring back to the Wasteland. If he encountered something like the zombie universe with its viruses, contaminated food supplies could introduce those viruses to the Wasteland.
At that point, Alex's efforts wouldn't save the Wasteland—they'd doom it.
(File 1: Ruins Universe. File 2: Flashpoint Universe 1.)
Miss Minutes's response was quick, and the two universes she mentioned were precisely the ones Alex had experienced early on in this world.
Hearing her choices, Alex fell into thought.
First, there was the Ruins Universe. This was a world Alex had always wanted to revisit, as it was filled with secrets he hadn't yet uncovered.
However, due to the immense power he possessed, Alex couldn't even focus his gaze on that universe, let alone enter it.
But now, this wasn't an issue anymore. After absorbing the powers of Lucifer and Michael from the Supernatural Universe, Alex had learned their possession abilities.
Following an experiment in the The Boys Universe, Alex confirmed that he could possess anyone in the Ruins Universe and re-enter that world.
Still, Alex wasn't ready to do so. The Ruins Universe's development was too bizarre and seemed deeply tied to contamination. Without a response from the Watcher faction, Alex wasn't willing to act rashly.
Eliminating that option left only the Flashpoint Universe, the one created by Barry Allen when he altered history.
Since Alex had left that universe with Kara and the others, he hadn't looked back.
Initially, it was because the crisis in that universe had been resolved, and it was heading toward a period of free development. Because of that, Alex couldn't predict its future and saw no reason to return.
The uncertainty of an unknown future worried Alex. What if he returned only to have Darkseid and Apokolips arrive and confront him directly?
From Alex's limited memories of the DC cinematic universe, what stood out was the endlessly rebooted timelines and Batman's parents perpetually dying.
Thus, Alex had always approached the Flashpoint Universe with a "stay away if possible" mentality.
But now, the Wasteland desperately needed food and supplies. Loki, in his vegetative state, clearly had no intention of helping. The only familiar universe Alex could turn to was the one with old Batman and young Flash.
Steeling himself, Alex prepared to face any challenges that awaited.
"Let's hope that universe has developed peacefully. Miss Minutes, open a portal to Flashpoint Universe 1."
(The recorded time node in the archives is the Genesis Engine. Would you like to teleport to that time node?)
"No. I want to go to a future time node after the Genesis Engine."
(As you wish.)
As soon as Miss Minutes finished speaking, a purple portal opened before Alex.
