Super Gene Ⅱ: Evolution

Lin Shen was the first to arrive at the front of the Attribute Fruit Tree, climbing straight up the trunk and sitting on a branch above.

This Attribute Fruit Tree was three to four meters tall, about the same as a normal fruit tree.

The Attribute Fruits it bore were noticeably larger than those on smaller trees, each one about the size of a hawthorn.

Lin Shen took out a folded backpack, stepped on the branches to pick the fruits, and tossed all the picked fruits into his backpack.

By the time Tian Xin swam through the Sword Orchid Zone to get there, more than half of the fruits on the tree were already in Lin Shen's backpack, leaving only those on the outermost tips, which he hadn't reached yet because of the distance.

"Leave some for me!" Tian Xin burst out of the water surface in a rush, trying to pick the fruits.

But he had just surged out of the water when he was pulled back down by a force within, completely unable to reach the fruits on the branches.

Tian Xin tried several times, but he just couldn't reach the fruits above.

Lin Shen jumped down from the branch, stepping on the water surface to pick the fruits, and as he watched the fruits fall into his hands, Tian Xin was so desperate he wanted to vomit blood.

He hurriedly swam to the side of the trunk, climbed up the tree, and used the Archangel's Sword to chop off branches, bringing down the branches along with the fruits, finally managing to get a few fruits.

Unfortunately, he had only gotten a few fruits when Lin Shen had already picked all the remaining ones, his backpack bulging, nearly too full to close.

"Let's go, let's head back," Lin Shen said as he stepped on the water to return.

Tian Xin had picked a dozen or so, but still felt incredibly frustrated inside.

If it weren't for Lin Shen's haul, the dozen or so he picked would have been far beyond his expectations upon arrival.

But thinking of Lin Shen's backpack filled to the brim, he felt that the dozen or so didn't seem appealing anymore.

Tian Xin didn't dare to stay here alone, so he could only jump into the water and follow Lin Shen back.

Once they reached the shore, seeing that Lin Shen was completely dry, carrying the bulging backpack, while he himself looked like a drowned rat, made his mood even worse.

"Today's harvest is almost enough, we can't use too much anyway. Let's leave some for those who come later; we should go back now," Lin Shen said with a smile.

"Easy for you to say, when you were picking the fruits, I didn't see you leave a single one. You've picked enough, but I haven't," Tian Xin said through gritted teeth.

"If you're not afraid of being robbed, then stay here and keep looking for fruit trees," Lin Shen said and turned to leave.

"I only picked a few, why would they rob me? They should rob you," Tian Xin said angrily.

"When they come back and see no fruits here and then run into you, do you think they'll believe you?" Lin Shen called back without turning his head.

Tian Xin thought about it and realized that he wouldn't believe it either; he would definitely think that he and Lin Shen had picked the fruits together.

By that time, Lin Shen would have run off, and facing four people alone, he'd be outnumbered and truly unable to clear his name.

After a lot of hesitation, Tian Xin had no choice but to catch up with Lin Shen and head out together.

"Encountering you, I've really had terrible bad luck," Tian Xin complained as they walked.

"If you hadn't encountered me, you would have died a long time ago, not even having the chance to pick these fruits," Lin Shen said indifferently.

Tian Xin was slightly startled and surprisingly didn't retort.

He also knew in his heart that Lin Shen was right. If it weren't for Lin Shen, he might have already died in his sleep.

Moreover, without Lin Shen, he couldn't go into the water and wouldn't have been able to pick so many fruits.

The two of them walked back the way they came in silence. It was still early, and there was plenty of time before nightfall after they hurried back.

As they walked, both of them felt that something was not right. It seemed like something in the surrounding Sword Orchid thickets was watching them.

"Do you feel like something is watching us?" Lin Shen turned to look at Tian Xin and asked.

"Yes, and there's a lot." Tian Xin surveyed the surroundings and said.

"If they don't come out, we'll keep moving." Lin Shen said and quickened his pace, continuing to rush forward, trying to reach the exit as quickly as possible.

Tian Xin had no other choice but to follow Lin Shen hurriedly.

After traveling some distance, the two suddenly saw a creature step out from the Sword Orchid thicket ahead, blocking their essential path.

Then they saw one after another Base Variant Creature emerge from the Sword Orchid thicket in all directions, quickly surrounding them.

These Base Variant Creatures looked like black chimpanzees. Although they weren't tall, each one had Black Crystal Bodies and was clearly a Crystal-based Creature.

"Break through; don't get entangled with them." Lin Shen pulled out Death Powder and used it directly as a long spear.

He swept aside the chimpanzees leaping at him from the Sword Orchid leaves, Death Powder moving widely and forcefully, clearing a path ahead.

The Archangel's Sword in Tian Xin's hand was even more formidable; anything touched by the Archangel's Sword either lost an arm or a leg – the hard Crystal Bases were like tofu.

More and more black chimpanzees charged over, but they couldn't stop the two's onward advance.

Death Powder in Lin Shen's hands was hard one moment and flexible the next, one minute it was a spear and the next it sounded like a whip.

The chimpanzee group howled dismally as one sweep of the weapon could knock down a large number of them.

"Where the hell do these things come from? We didn't see a single one when we came here before, but now we can't seem to kill them off!" Tian Xin cursed as he saw the number of black chimpanzees in front growing.

In a one-on-one fight, Tian Xin wasn't afraid of these black chimpanzees, but as their numbers grew, even if they didn't fight back and lined up for him to kill, he would eventually exhaust his strength. Once that happened, he would be at their mercy.

Lin Shen's carapace shone with brilliant light, with the Super Base Pattern's enhancement, such a battle could theoretically continue indefinitely for him.

"As long as there are no Ascended Creatures, these black chimpanzees can't stop us from breaking out." Lin Shen shouted as he continued to forge a path ahead.

Tian Xin, seeing Lin Shen maintaining high-intensity combat at the forefront with unfaltering strength, gritted his teeth and kept charging forward with Lin Shen.

Suddenly, a black lightning bolt flashed through from the Sword Orchid Forest.

Lin Shen, quick as lightning, dodged the black bolt.

The black lightning grazed Lin Shen's neck carapace, almost touching it. Tian Xin, who was behind, wasn't as quick, but he reacted in time and his Archangel's Sword struck at the black lightning.

With a loud clang, Tian Xin's Archangel's Sword almost flew out of his hand; his body uncontrollably flew backward, crashing into a huge Sword Orchid leaf behind him and breaking several of them.

"Damn it, jinxed by your own words... what you say comes true…" Tian Xin struggled to get up, stifling the turmoil in his chest, his gaze fixed on the circling black light – he saw that it was a black hammer-shaped Life Base.

Lin Shen's gaze, however, was fixed straight ahead where a giant black chimpanzee with blood-red eyes was glaring at them.
